Well, I’ve had a great time combing through all this material! Thanks so much to everyone who took the time to provide links, info, etc.

I posted after seeing the photos and interviews from the run that I was certainly enjoying Frederik turning fifty, regardless of how he himself may have felt about it.. and I feel that way even more after following along with the rest of the events. It was a wonderful celebration.

Mary’s speech was beautiful. She and Frederik are lucky to have found each other.

The thing I loved the most was how the children were very much a part of the celebration, both as Frederik’s kids and as members of the royal family. So they told silly stories about their dad, but also showed they can already handle many of the important public aspects of royal work, including off the cuff speaking in public. If Frederik is like most other fathers I think seeing the children shine like that was probably his best birthday gift!

If you wish to continue discussing Crown Princess Mary's accent and the languages she speaks, please do so at the following thread:

Their faces are the cutest! I love that Mary is always down to dance. Those gowns add an extra degree of difficulty.

Excellent point. Including the kids was wonderful. Their involvement and participation couldn't have been better. Icing on the cake that was a beautiful week of celebration. From Nikolai attending his first gala to Felix at the concert to the Crown Princely children participating in the run and the concert.

In regards to the kids' concert interviews, I was very impressed, and a little surprised but also not really. For as much physicality as she brings, Josephine is actually vocally quite quiet in comparison. Isabella already has a great confident, comfortable presence in front of the camera and in public. Her posture is fantastic! It was nice to see Vincent open up since he otherwise appears to be shy. Even if it meant discovering his candor. And it was really impressive watching Christian's response, his sort of PR control. He had their mama's back! He's a good son and a kind, patient big brother. And from what I've learned this week, Christian is very much his father's son, and given the exposure of his father through the people's affection during the week to the footage of pre-children Frederik, it might've influenced him even more to be like his father.

This weeks issue of Billed Bladet's DRF-coverage is exclusively devoted to Frederik's B-day.

There are some trivia:
John Donaldson was unable to take part in the celebrations, instead he visited M&F prior to the birthday celebrations.
Victoria and Daniel and Haakon and Mette-Marit stayed the night at Fredensborg after the gala-dinner. And the mood was still merry when they left in the forenoon.

BB has kindly provided transcripts of what the children said in the segments at the gala-concert:
As far as at all possible I stick as close to what the children actually said. Even if it may no be obvious what they specifically refer to.

Their birthday greeting:
Isabella (I): "Hi, dad, I hope you have a really nice party today in Royal Arena together with us."
Josephine (J): "I love you dearly."
Vincent (V): "You are the loveliest dad in the whole world."
Christian (C): "We love you really, really, dearly."
All of them: "Congratulations on the birthday, dad!"

Segment.
C: "The most cool thing about our dad is that he can so many things."
I: "He is very curious."
C: "He likes to challenge himself."
V: "He does half-marathon, cycling and ironman."
J: "Try to think carefully and feel inside the body." - (Gut-feeling, presumably.)
I: "Then he also says, for example if you are a bit tired, then he says: Come on! You can just make it in time. It's right over there. - And if you don't believe in yourself and says no, I really can't. There is a bit long time yet, then he says: No, come on, you can do it! - He helps on the way to it."

Segment.
C: "He laughs all the time at his own jokes."
V: "Which we don't think are funny."
I: "Also when we sit at the table and then if, if he is also a little silly, and then mother says: Ehh, really, do get your act together. - And then he begins to laugh and say: I ain't doing anything."
C: "And we just sit there like that: Seriously!"
I: "He is sort of 15 year old like inside, but outside he is what he is." - (Adult.)

Segment.
J: "When he becomes king then he stands here with a mega huge megaphone. Then he could say to all the people that people must not put garbage on the nature."
V: "Garbage on the ground! You can't throw cigarettes either".
J: "It's not so good for the nature and the water - that the water is growing, but it's growing slowly, but I still think it's a stupid idea to throw garbage on the ground." - (The ice is melting.)
V: "And you must'n steal from other people."

Segment.
I: "Well, he is not sort of really, really, really romantic, but sometimes he sort of, like on Valentines Day or something, give mum some roses."
J: "Dad had been out traveling and we've walked past where they met each other. Then dad met her and said hi, because you are so beautiful, and then they talked, and then they became sweethearts and then they got married, and then she became a princess."

Segment.
C: "Ooohh, the best to nag is 100 % dad".
V: "Yes! It's dad."
C: "Yes, but if it's ice cream, then it's probably mmum."
V: "Yes! Yes, it's mum."
I: "Dad, can't we stay up a little bit longer, and then he says: Ok, you can have 10 minutes. - And then it becomes kinda like half an hour or something like that."
C: "The very best thing about dad is when we do something together, and he just comes up with something we can do right away."
I: "Or if we are bored and he just says: How about playing a game?"
V: "He gets crossed if someone have more points."
C: "There are many good things."
I: "He is good at ideas."
C: "I think my dad - what he want's very most for his birthday, is probably a travel with his family."
V: "On the Maldives."
C: "It doesn't matter where it is."
I: "You couldn't have a better family for sure."
C: "No, we have a really good family."
V: "Yes!"
J: "And a sweet family."

Frederik's birthday has been a first class 50 years birthday.
I had looked much forward to it and hoped and thought it would be fantastic. But it exceeded all my expectations. And also Frederik's himself, he told us several times during the week.

It was a birthday with the people and not just for the people - as we are used to.
And then Mary and the children were along the whole way - you really get to understand that their little family is the core of their entire live.

I think it was on TV2 that Billedbladet's Trine Larsen said: "This week has made a highly respected and beloved little family even more respected and beloved, if that at all is possible."

The Danes give credit to Mary for how well she speaks Danish. And not least for her understanding of the Danish language. She speaks a modern Danish, she uses slang words, she speaks fast and is fully understandable. She has just held a 14 minute long speech on super Danish - and she writes all her speeches herself (on contrary to the other members of the DRF, according to Frederik in the book 'Under Bjælken')
And that speech was without any doubt written directly from Mary's own hands - and heart.

No one who has learned to speak Danish as adults can speak without accent, and why should they? It's so charming as long as the grammar is correct and you can understand them easily.
And Mary actually speaks without any accent in some sentences, sounding like a native, and then with accent in some other sentences. Only charming, yes.

This comment can be seen on DRF's Facebook under the video of Mary's speech and has gained over 100 likes:

"The world's best and loving crown princess Mary.
The speech to Crown Prince Frederik is still in my head. The content was absolutely amazing .. and thinking of being able to get up and perform so well-formulated and rhetorically beautiful in a foreign language in front of a whole nation. That is totally unique
Impressive Danish Crown Princess speaks and master!

No Mary You may not have been born in Denmark, but for us danes you are Danish. Lovely that you and the Crown Prince dared and now hold each other's hearts in your hands. Beautifully. "

Feel free to run through the thousands of comments. Yes the Danes give credit for her Danish language, but NOT LESS credit for her speech!
https://www.facebook.com/detdanskeko...4638352874749/

That speech was first shared one time at the DRF Facebook page - and it got such a succes that they then shared it in full it's length. Never in the DRF's Facebook time has a post or a video been liked, shared and commented so many times

I know I speak for many when I say we never have heard such a beautiful, touching, funny, honest and very very loving and personal speech before in the Danish Royal House.
She really loves her Frederik! And know him and understand him.
And the way Frederik look at her during her speech.... !

I especially like the part where Mary are saying that we can't capture another person. We can dare to follow by. "We dared to lose that part of our heart as we had allowed the other to hold in its hands."
Beautiful! And isn't that what we all hopes for? To love and be loved back.

Great work, Muhler!

I think Christian, Isabella, Vincent and Josephine's segments in the DR live show was another big highlight! Again something that we have never seen before in the Danish royal house. So folksy and we certainly got to learn the Crown Prince family more.

And their performance, radiance and comments were on top.
We saw that behind the titles and the royal castles they are just an ordinary family with the same pleasures and challenges, and where the family and each other is the most important.

Muhler, I think you forgot a segment that I think was wonderful.

The children should answer how their father and mother met each other.
They respond a little each before Josephine takes over and tells very clearly:

"Dad was out traveling and Mom and Mad sat on a bench in Australia.. we have walked by that place...
and then Dad said Mom was beautiful and then they became lovers and then they got married and Mom became a princeeeeess." She smiles proudly.

Over and out.

DR's host was seen laughing while pointing to Josephine among the audience and directly say to her: "Well done Princess Josephine, there's no need to make things more complicated than they are."

And Vincent was just a pleasure! I loved all he said, and all the artist in the show he didn't was impressed by

These segments are presious as well...

You are welcome.

Yes, I believe I heard the bit about the bench as well. But there was no mentioning of that in the BB transcript.

I have not read anything on those private gifts, probably will remain private, but part of Mary's birthday gift was a picture book that was published.

It has been mentioned in some articles, that this is Mary's gift to her husband. The past 25 years of his life in pictures.

"I anledning af H.K.H. Kronprins Frederiks 50 års fødselsdag d. 26. maj 2018, udkommer den ultimative folkegave i form af denne bog, som er H.K.H. Kronprinsesse Marys personlige kærlighedserklæring til Danmarks kommende konge"

I LOVE this gift and I'm sure there were many similar.

Also, in that article, it was revealed F&M received five cars for their wedding! I wonder what they were and where they are now.

I ordered it from ArnoldBusck.dk. Purchased it May 29, still waiting for it. Tracking tells me it just passed through customs. Don't know how much longer it will take. Hopefully not much longer!

Here are some of the wonderful, unpretentious and not seen before pictures in Crown Princess Mary's birthday-book to her husband, Crown Prince Frederik

Quote:
On the occasion of H.R.H. Crown Prince Frederik's 50th Birthday, May 26, 2018, is presents the ultimate folk present in the form of this book, which is H.R.H. Crown Princess Mary's personal declaration of love to Denmark's future King.

The book is full of personal pictures - pictures which invite the reader in behind the official facade and showing us the fun, loving and private side - taken in special moments through Crown Prince Frederik's life. It is Crown Princess Mary's surprise for her husband and her own private pictures and words that characterize the book, as well as pictures taken by four of Denmark's best photographers.

It has become a poetic narrative in words and pictures that invite the reader behind the official facade and draw a nuanced and honest picture of Denmark's future King.

The book is called: H.K.H. Crown Prince Frederik.
Can be purchased in Denmark's bookstores for 199,95 kr.

Mary has written her own words to the pictures.

Many, many, many more BIG quality pictures in the book. It is a fantastic book and I really like the idea of it - that Mary are showing us the unpretentious, funny and loving pictures we normally never see showing us exactly who Frederik is. Seen from their side. We have not seen that before in royal families, but it is a brilliant and liberating idea.

My favorite is the picture of the 2 of them hugging on the enclosed part of their home in the winter time I think it is.......he is hugging her and leaning into her, that is so romantic and loving......they are just so wonderful together, so loving and caring of each other and the children......almost seems like a fairytale come true.
