The situation in Spain, which was already bad, is getting worse now with the Rajoy government involved in a major campaign finance scandal and likely to fall in the next weeks on a motion of censure. King Felipe VI seems to be personally close to Frederik too, but I don't think it would be appropriate for him to leave the country to attend a glittering birthday gala given the circumstances. There may be also scheduling conflicts (maybe the Spanish editors can comment on that).

Felipe's attending a Real Madrid match in Kiev on Saturday.

So no one from Spain, probably not from the UK either. The Danish never extend invitations to Liectenstein and Monaco.

Yes tomorrow is the big (biggest) day and I wonder who will held the speeches at the big official dinner. Do you think Mary will? Or will her speech be at the informel private dinner I very much think they hold tonight :)

I guess the speakers to the big official dinner will be Margrethe as host, the more private speech by his wife Mary and the official speech by the Prime Minister.

I love the concept of the portrait where his family is waiting for him in the background but I think CP Fredrick face looks more like Joachim's face, to me, its a bit too slender.

On another note, their children are simply beautiful and seem so natural even with all the attention surrounding them, F&M are doing a great job!!

There might be a private dinner tonight for guests that have already arrived but I am guessing that there will be a private party at some point, like the one Mary arranged for the 40th, later in June. Fredensborg or even Gråsten could be a good place.


I read somewhere, that one of the Danish weeklies had something about a private party in June.

I think we are seeing an older Frederik. A man with a heavy responsibility. Perhaps that's the whole idea behind the artists depiction of him?
The real-life Frederik is after all all very youthful looking.

Yes to the latter. And as far as I know, she's still in a relationship with one of Mary and Frederik's close friends (and Vincent's godfather), Count Michael Ahlefeldt-Laurvig-Bille.

I hope Alexia is coming. Have always gotten the sense that she and Frederik have been close.

King Felipe and Queen Letizia attend tomorrow the Armed Forces Day, which is an annual parade that they always presides, since the king is Supreme Chief of the Army. The schedule of the event and the distance to Denmark made it very difficult to attend.

King Felipe will not be able to attend the final of the Champions League in Kiev also tomorrow for the same reason and will be replaced by King Juan Carlos.
