It seems like he has worked hard to get this position. Congratulations to Frederik.
According to Billed Bladet, he paid tribute to Mary during a press conference that he gave regarding the IOC:

Frederik says that he has "had many advisors, but my wife has been the best one".

I haven't seen much of what he does on the IOC, I might have missed it. How does he contribute to it, I mean apart from obviously turning up to these meetings. I know not much about this stuff at all!

As you probably know Frederik will attend a meeting in the IOC in South Africa, right after the wedding in Monaco.
A note in Billed Bladet #26, 2011 informs us that Prince Albert and Charlene will go on a honeymoon to South Africa as well and they will live on the Oyster Box Hotel.
Now, a wedding banquet, hosted by the IOC, will be held at that hotel on the 7th July, because Prince Albert is also a member of the IOC. - And Frederik will attend that banquet.
- I presume both Frederik and Albert will attend at least some of the meetings of the IOC? - That's a pretty romantic thing to do on your honeymoon....
(BB is up).

Crown Prince Frederik has handed out the IOC Trophy at the Svanemøllens barracks today, December 21.
For 2011 the IOC has chosen the prize theme "sports and social responsibility" and the winner is the DIF
Soldiers Project - a collaboration project of the National Olympic Committee and Sports Confederation of
Denmark (DIF), the Danish Military Sports Association (DMI) and the Danish Disabled Sports Federation
(DHIF) - that aims to develop sports facilities/opportunities for soldiers with war wounds.

Thank you, Iceflower
I can add that the military encourage invalided soldiers to take up sport on a high level, partly for retraining but just as much to help them overcome the trauma mentally. As such we are beginning to see a number of high class athletes emerging as a very unfortunate by-product of the war in Afghanistan.
Severely wounded soldiers are routinely treated at Rigshospitalet and as Danish hospitals had relatively little practical experiences with retraining victims of war-traumas until about ten years ago, the doctors and specialists have been astounded at how determinedly and fast the soldiers have recovered. Partly becuase they are very fit phyiscally but also because they form a supporting network among themselves.
Unfortunately, once they leave the hospitals the local municipalities are not always that obliging in helping the ex-soldiers to move on.

Thanks, JessRulz
Summary of article in Billed Bladet #52, 2011.
Frederik viste respekt - Frederik showed respect.
Written by the Ulrik Ulriksen.
Frederik showed up at Svanemøllen Barracks in order to present the IOC Throphy to Danish Athletics Association's Project for Soldiers.
The military has for years encourged invalided soldiers to take op sports on a high level and as a consequence Denmark has now produced a number of handicapped athletes on an olympic level, as a by-product of the war in Afghanistan.
They were the ones Frederik visited that day and with whom he established a very good rapport. He clearly enjoyed himself and had fun.
Frederik said in his speech: "You use sport to show that you very much decide yourself how limited you need to be. And as such you ar a fantastic example to others".
Frederik started a ball-match among veterants who have all lost their legs. They sat on a kind of skateboards and they showed no mercy for their opponents.
After the match Frederik sat and chatted with the veterans and jokes were exchanged.
Frederik said afterwards: "There is a fantastic effort and will in the soldiers here. And then there is this particular good jargon between them, which I recognice from the military. That also gives them a sense of being together. They speak the same language. We understand each other".
The veteran, Christian Richardson said: "The Crown Prince relates to a lot of what we told him. He is a lovely person. And he understands the jokes that are cracked. Frederik picks them up of course. He is a very, very relaxed man, when you are with him".

He sure did.
Frederik has also met the Danish Olympic shooters (both rifle and pistol) and here he was presented with a fairly modest present, that nevertheless pleased him a lot.
A folder with 113 collectors cards of the shooters.
Flipping through the folder Frederik said: "Thanks a lot. I know that will cause joy with the rascals at home".
Here is a video: http://www.billedbladet.dk/Kongelige...supergave.aspx
I admire his laid back, very informal and yet very personal interaction with the sportslers/shooters. Here we genuinely see Frederik at his best. Face to face.
Let's go through what Frederik actually said in the video:
On being presented with a present he said: "Ah, there is the present. I thought I was unannounced.
Thank you very much, I have to open that. Oh, it's those cards. Oy, how great, because there... Oy, how super. There's actually one of.. One of my son's classmates and he already has one (folder) with photos, albeit from the European Championships.
Ha! That's you!
Tactics one... Why is that? - Something about you breathing better than the others?
I think.. I know that will create a joy among the rascals. A thousand thanks".
