Thanks for the many pics, and articles.
A couple of questions for our Canadian friends:
How is the coverage in the local media?
And in this photo: http://royalista.com/wp-content/imag...x1200@1.5x.jpg
The somewhat heavily geared police officer in the background, is she a mountie or local? (Yes, I know. I'm a sucker for trivia).

I've been keeping my eye out and nothing in the media so far aside from a couple of articles you've seen posted in this thread. But then Edward and Sophie have been here for days and I've seen no mention of it on the evening news which is rather odd because the British royals do get at a mention or two. I think it might be because the media's chasing other headlines like the Scottish referendum as well as the Toronto mayor's illness.
I think the officer in the picture is probably just a local police officer or security guard. Mounties are quite distinct looking.

Thanks
That corresponds to a couple of comments I read in the Daily Mail article.
I am of course familiar with the red gala uniform of the Mounties, but not their service uniform, hence my question.

I don't recognice any of the protection officers, so I believe they must be Canadian.
I presume Canadian legislation does not allow foreign armed police officers top operate in Canada?

The Service Uniform is pretty distinctive too. What you would think for the hat, like other Police/Military units, but the shirt is a light caramel/almost beige-y, with dark brown epaulettes and the RCMP Crest Badge on the sleeves near the shoulder. The pants are that same dark brown w/a gold stripe down the outside seam.
Hope that helps. :)
Edited to add ~ If you bop over to the Wessexes in Canada thread, there's been a video of their departure from one of the stops (It's been a long day today, my brain is a tad frazzled at the moment, so forgive me blanking on where they were. At least it was an enjoyable long day for a change, but still long. Anyway...) earlier this week and at one point a Mountie in the regular Service Uniform walks through the frame. He's also got on the bulletproof vest and is w/the Dad w/his little girl on his shoulders.
Now * that* should help far more than my rather less than great try at describing it. :)

I think your description was fine.
Thanks, now I'll know what to look for.
I presume it's the Mounties rather than regional police who provide security for foreign VIP's?
It's funny, protection officers look the same all over the world. Presumably they all have the same stylist and go to the same hairdresser/barber.
Imagine an international convention for protection officers at a hotel. - Full of identical looking anonymous people.

Within the provinces that use the RCMP, most municipalities use the RCMP as well. I'm not sure if any cities in Quebec or Ontario (with the possible exception of Ottawa) use the RCMP.

Thanks, Ish
I was under the impression that the Mounties were a federal police force only.
Guess I need to rearrange my mental archive.

Thanks for the many links and pics
Does anyone else have trouble keeping track of the posts in the Danish threads or is it just me? I read the posts to a certain number comeback there have been more posts, but the number has gone back and then I have to find what I have missed, it doesn't seem to happen in other threads .

Hi Marfre!
Yes, Rideau Hall is the official residence of the Governor General. When our own Royal Family (i.e. Queen Elizabeth and her family) are visiting Ottawa they usually stay at Rideau Hall. It's a beautiful place and the Governor General takes the attitude that it belongs to all Canadians, so they will often have free concerts, movies, skating parties, etc. on the grounds. The grounds are usually always open for a stroll during the day and tours are available of much of the house, except for the very private areas where the GG and his wife actually live.

Muhler, as Humera said in a previous post, there is really little coverage of F&M's visit in the Canadian press. Generally speaking, even many visits by members of our own RF (the British RF) gets little press here. I find that really only Queen Elizabeth, Charles and Kate and William get a decent amount of coverage when they visit.
As for the police officers in your picture, they are members of the local Ottawa Police force. You can tell this by their logo: http://lake88.ca/wp-content/uploads/...go-230x263.jpg Having said that, I'm at a loss to explain what they are doing there. I would have thought that looking after visiting royalty would largely be a federal matter. The RCMP website certainly seems to indicate this.

DailyMail is featuring Mary and Frederik a lot later. More than Sophie and Edward who are still in Canada!

Thanks, Squidgy.
Also for answering my questions about Canadian police.
I wonder why there is such a limited press coverage of royal visits, especially secondary BRF visits.
It's not my impression that the Canadians are particularly repuplican.
Is it because the "media-elite/opinion-elite" think it's beneath them to cover such anacronistic and, even worse, popular institutions as royalty?

I guess the Wessex couple are a lot further down the royal pyramid than Mary and Fred.
Also, I think in recent months, the DM is making a concerted effort to throw in more stories of European royals - though most of them are typically vacuous and have little of substance.

According to a Danish magazine, they stayed the first night at the Governor General's guest house.
