A note about the gown Mary is wearing tonight: A beautiful honor and sweet thought from Crown Princess Mary to wear a gown created by the young Danish designer, Cecilie Bahsen, whom the couple tonight gave the Crown Prince Couple's Stardust Award. Mary stood on the scene and with a charming bow she gave an acknowledging nod to the young designer who sat down in the hall. Cecilie became so touched and proud that she almost couldn't held her speech.

I will translate a bit from the article: "It was pretty exciting. The day before PET came and checked the whole area. It's not that often you have a princess come visiting. It was pretty cozy (hygge) once it happened".
- "Yes, it was actually more cozy (hygge) than is evident from the segment. (see video in article) She was there for 75 minutes and we talked about all sorts of things. It was very obvious that she really knew what we were doing. Because she had a lot of exciting questions about the music we use".

Two sets of awards were presented.
Two "stardust" awards of 50.000 DKK. They went to a podcaster and to the designer Cecilie Bahnsen. - And Mary wore a dress by Cecilie Bahnsen. It was actually Mary's idea that she should were a dress by Bahnsen and for once Mary made it clear whose design she wore on stage: "Cecilie Bahnsen's design is marked by the wish to show how the fine and seductive need not be sugary, but can instead be user-friendly.
With a visionary eye she creates clothes for the modern and independent woman with her own approach to design".

Two Culture Awards were also presented, each of 500.000 DKK. One for the Black School - a composer-duo. The second for Dignity - Danish Institute against Torture. (IIRC they were pioneering rehabilitation of torture victims back in he 80's.)
There was a focus on a woman from Rwanda who had been subjected to torture - and her Frederik stepped in. Normally women's rights is Mary's domain, but not this evening. As such it was also he who had sat down and the woman from Rwanda.
Music is normally Frederik's domain, but here Mary took over and presented the award to the Black School duo.

Great work, Polyesco, Eya & Iceflower

I didn't see it myself, but from what I can understand from glancing the papers today, a number of the recipient and the artists who entertained used this opportunity to come with political-social statements.
Even though I actually happen to agree with at least some of the statements and artists by their vary nature are more or less supposed to point to things in society, I'm not sure it's that great an idea for M&F to be too associated with this.
Well, at least M&F (perhaps especially Frederik,) is quite respected and even liked in the art-circles and that may ensure M&F will not be embarrassed.

It was a great show this year and Frederik and Mary had chosen some very relevant and touching prize recipients. The visits F&M did home at author Kim Leine and the Greenland Children was enriching. A good show with dignity and seriousness, but also humour.

A thing that I don't think has been mentioned here at TRF is that the Crown Prince couple's prize award (which was sent live on Denmark's main channel DR1) opened in a brillaint way!

* The program starts .. DR1 switches to the studio and sends live... but the hosts are missing. And then Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary stands alone in the control room and looks around...

Mary: Shouldn't they (the hosts) be here now?
Frederik: Well, they should certainly be here now.
Mary: We are going live in a minute...
Frederik: Yes, it's a tv production and you have to be punctual... but hey, their (the host's) cards are right here... (pointing at the cards)
Mary: Should we? (take the host's card and take over their roles)
Frederik: Yes, shouldn't we? Let's do it...
Mary: Yes let's do it... let us get started this show.... *

Then Frederik and Mary leaves the control room and enters the stage and welcome all (all this happpen while broadcasting live on Denmark's main channel in prime time.)
Frederik and Mary walks in and welcome and Mary just reach to say: "And then we hope that Kaare and Stephanie (the hosts) soon are on the stairs...."
And the hosts come running and apologize for the delay and then take over.

It was obviously planned, but really fun and a brilliant opening of the show and F&M have been praised for it - both by the tv-watchers and by the royal experts in the papers.

The praise for Crown prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary will not end on Facebook after the Crown Prince couple showed new sides of themselves at prime time at DR1 saturday night.

The Crown Prince couple's tv-surprise saturday evening is a clear expression of the folksy popularity this couple give and have, says expert and creative director in Mensch, Frederik Preisler.

"In fact, it's another feature that confirm what we already know; Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary does not take themselves too stiff/seriously, says Frederik Preisler.

"This communicates cleary - and the couple knew that then they went into it - that in the eyes of the tv-viewer it would seem like the organizer had asked them to and that the Crown Prince couple were willing to join the joke," he says.
