From memory:
Back in the late 80s early 90s there was a separatist movement in Punjab IIRC, which was quite a nuisance for the Indian military at the time. They were supplied with weapons and ammunition by gun-runners, some of them foreigners. One of them a Dane. Some of these gun-runners did it for money, others for ideological reasons. IMO the Dane in question was simply naïve.
Anyway, the Indian authorities rolled up the organization the Dane was a member of, most were arrested - the Dane got away to DK.
The Indian authorities knew who he was and had a case against him and requested he be extradited. A Danish court ruled no, not because they didn't believe he could be convicted, but because it was feared he would be tortured and executed - probably a very real concern at the time.
India had lots of problems with both Sikh, Muslim and Hindu militants back then - to some extent still have.
Anyway, the Indian government was miffed - and not being able or perhaps rather willing to understand that Danish courts are independent from political influence, the Indians retaliated by putting the relationship between the two countries on ice. For quite a number of years actually.

This visit should end that state of affairs. Hence why it's an important visit. And as mentioned before: India really don't have that many friends among their neighbors right now.

- And finally. Even though India used bullying tactic against DK, I can't really blame them that much. That fool delivered weapons to people, who killed Indian soldiers and officials, so of course they wanted to get their hands on him, just as we would, had it been the other was around. I mean if you play with fire, you risk getting burned.
Keeping him safe here and out of jail, sure has been expensive for DK!
In line with this post, here's an article in the politics section on TV2 with a video interview with Lars Lokke Rasmussen

I must confess to be envious of M&F and I really look forward to when we are going to visit Taj Mahal ourselves.

Anyway, it's a soft start on their trip. Giving them time to getting used to the change in climate and stretch their legs after the flight. Even though the weather is pretty balmy in DK right now, I don't think it can be compared to north-central India...
QMII often stay for a few days as a tourist after a state visit, especially (in our eyes) in more exotic places. I wonder will have time for a little sightseeing on their own?

Nothing but hatred for Frederik's sneakers, lol. Other than that, they're perfect.

Don't know if they will have time for sightseeing of their own, but Mary is on tourist mode already.

A nice video of Mary visiting a hospital today.
The woman almost died when she gave birth on 22. February.
https://www.bt.dk/royale/staerkt-bev...rinsesse-diana

I find the journalist's comparison of Mary and Diana both off, very worn and odd.
The poor woman has been dead for many years! And royals have visited hospitals both before and since.

-----------

I notice to my delight that Frederik is now so much more comfortable in giving speeches.
I doubt he enjoys giving speeches though, but because of that his speeches often come across as more genuine.

Interesting how much, fashionwise, these officials trips have changed since a couple of years - no hat or gloves for the CPcss at the arrival (and certainly for the ceremony at the memorial!), no business suit and -shoes for Frederik... instead, leisuretime outfit and sneakers....!

Video interview with Frederik and Mary
https://nyheder.tv2.dk/samfund/2023-...Anews%3A%3A%3A

"Will we see the Crown Prince Couple have a different role in the future?
- It is clear that my mother has reported to be absent for the time to come, and it is natural that I take over many of the obligations that lie with the work we are responsible for in general .

The couple tells TV 2 that they are "very proud" that India and Denmark will work more closely together in the future.
- I think we have only reached the beginning of something here. I think that in twenty years we will see a significantly different India than we do today, says the crown prince.

According to him, the Danish visit is about inspiring the Indians to adopt Danish solutions when it comes to the green transition.
- From the Indian side, they have done their homework and assessed that Denmark was a good partner that they wanted to bring in to reverse the Indian growth locomotive. It must become green, that is their focus and they have the will to do so, says Crown Prince Frederik.

Crown Princess Mary also believes that Denmark has a lot to be proud of when it comes to what we can offer the world in the green transition.

- Denmark can contribute a great deal. We are in the world's most populous country, and they look to Denmark to work together and are interested in our knowledge and our technological solutions, says Crown Princess Mary to TV 2."

A great team!

Of course India is not interested in working with DK, because we have pretty blue eyes, but because India has studied similar projects in not least Vietnam, but also China. India aiming to if not supersede China eventually, then certainly grab a very big chunk of Chinas export. And DK key-finished products have a very reputation in Asia.

Very busy last day visiting Danish business. It's great that they can split their agenda to visit more companies.

Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark were received by Governor Ravi and the First Lady of Tamil Nadu Tmt.

video interviews from yesterday

- We contribute by creating awareness, being part of the platform that allows the right people to meet and exchange experience and knowledge, but hopefully also build new partnerships for the benefit of both countries, says Crown Princess Mary, who for the first time time is in India.

The last time the crown prince was in India was 20 years ago, when the couple had just met. Now they are in the country together for the first time.

- It's great to be able to travel together. We have done this many times before since we got married. For me, for both of us, it is a pleasure to be able to enter into a partnership, also when we are at the head of a large business delegation, says Crown Prince Frederik.

Thanks!

Mary and Frederik are an amazing team and shine on trips like this. And like is said, because they can so easily split the agenda they cover more ground. Mary is just as well-versed in and informed about the issues as Frederik is. And they are both always prepared. Plus, they can run-around for days from morning to night w/no problem and can handle such a jampacked program like they do. They must be exhausted, but you would not know it. These trips require the energy they bring to all the events rushing from one to another. They really are in their prime!

Last day recap.
https://www.instagram.com/p/CpS-P9pg...1-177fc7540b03
https://www.facebook.com/detdanskeko...W1FYXxWjvA7gWl

“India has the scale, Denmark has the skills.”

The Indian cities of New Delhi and Chennai have in recent days formed the framework for a large Danish business promotion with the Crown Prince couple at the forefront.

The promotion ended yesterday with a major closing reception, where His Royal Highness The Crown Prince thanked representatives from both Danish and Indian companies for their commitment during the business promotion.

During the promotion, 38 Danish companies have gained insight into additional market opportunities and built knowledge of new partnerships and business opportunities in India - thus the business promotion is only the beginning of many companies' commitment to India.

Denmark is already making a significant contribution to India's green transition - especially in water and energy, and these are the two tracks that have been the focus of the Crown Prince couple in recent days.
