I just read that Mary and Frederick and the two children spent Christians birthday in the royal family's summer cottage in northern zealand...it had been their intention all along to make this a private birthday. Voila.

Indeed. Billed Bladet quoted Lis Frederiksen:

"It was their wish all along that Prince Christian's birthday was to be celebrated completely privately this year..." the court's information manager Lis M. Frederiksen told Billed Bladet.

TV2 is reporting that the family spent his birthday at a hunting lodge, which was a private event, also attended by close friends.

As a citizen paying tax in Denmark, I don't think that it is necessarily a problem that Mary and Frederik chose to not release pictures of Christian on his birthday. One of my main reasons for enjoying the photoshoots of Ingrid Alexandra, Elisabeth, Catherina-Amalia, etc. is that these are children who are not as frequently seen in the press - and I feel that given their position, they should have experience with being photographed and facing interviews from an early age, so that it becomes a custom, not scary, and not have to be pushed suddenly into the spotlight at 18.

Christian is photographed quite a bit in his daily life. Any subscriber to Billedbladet will see that.

I think this whole thread is beyond silly. They owe us nothing! He is their child. Whatever their decision is on their son and his birthday is totally up to them. None of us would put up with someone telling us what to do with our child. We have no right to moan or snivel. There will be more pictures soon, done when his parents feel the time is appropriate. Not in our time.

And THIS sums it up beautifully. Some of us are too presumptious.

I don't believe this discussion is silly at all. DoM raised an excellent question which is perfectly valid. Furthermore, it is far more interesting to read than empty posts (oooing and aweing posts as I call it) whereupon members repeat the same thing over and over again with no substance/dialogue.

Majority of members may not agree with one or two of their fellow TRF members and their expectations regarding photos, but that doesn't mean the conversation is "silly." You may not agree with it, but don't knock a perfectly good debate just because you don't agree with several people and their point of view.

GT - Forgive my impertinence. I agree that the discussion is not silly at all, but people are only voicing their displeasure at not having the opportunity to "oooing and aweing" over Christians' photos. What gives us the right to impose our will on a two year old? Perhaps a poll could provide us with an outcome by actually answering the question itself with a simple yes or no.

Forgive me for saying it was a silly thread. I just do not understand everyone getting so upset over no photos. He is a child. He will have more photos made of him by the time he is 21 years old than many of us will in a lifetime. He needs to be a "normal child" as long as it is possible, and he is able to be protected by his parents. Being royal gives us no say over his parent's decision on what is best for him or his family.

I think that photos were released on his first birthday as that is a major milestone in any childs life, let alone that of a child who is/will be a public figure. A second birthday is not such a major milestone.

Further more, at that age children are beginning to understand that birthdays are their special day, so they should be able to understand that they enjoy it.

We don't see photos of everyone of Frederick or Marys birthdays do we? Whilst I am sure that we saw photos of his first birthday somewhere.

Why do you think that Empress? If private photos come out is because Mary and Frederik wanted to and until now they don't want that!
Maybe we will get to see some hiden photos in their house in Jutland.

But isn't it enough to have pics of the family at official or semi-official occassions? Do we really need to have paparazzi shots of their every step? Even royals do deserve a private time that is not pictured.

What a logical and refreshing post Glittering Tiaras! :flowers:

It's a shame that we haven't gotten a chance to see any birthday photos yet but on the other hand it's also perfectly normal for them to just want a day in private. They are being watched by so many people on a day to day basis that they probably feel that it's pretty important to get to spend a special day like Christian's birthday alone and in private without photographers.

But I still can't wait to see new pictures!

I just think, that it is just sad, that it is not a "tradition" for Crownprince Frederik and Crownprincess Mary to present pictures from the birthday of Prince Christian.

Don't missunderstand me now (PLEASE) (I know, Prince Christian is just 2 years old. Where can - there - be a "tradition"?): All the others royal families show some birthdaypictures - there is already a tradition, it is already "normal" to present some pictures (or even a video).

Why is it unrealistic to expect pictures from the 2nd birthday of Prince Christian?

I don't think members are being unrealistic to expect pictures for his 2nd birthday. It's common in many royal houses to release photos and after the incredible number of photos we had last year, it creates expectations. Whether or not these expections are grounded is something else, but still there's disappointment when there are no photos. I completely agree that this family has a right to privacy, but releasing a picture is not a breach of privacy is it? It's not like we're asking for a photoshoot with all the press being present, they could have just released a picture made by Frederik himself, had they preferred that, like Willem-Alexander did with his girls.

I really hope that Fr&M&Chr had a wonderful private day and that there will be no paparazzi photos - I know they are royal family but they are just people and not some exotical animals. I really hope that paparazzis just leave them alone for some days!

I forgot to add that photos made by Fr or M would have been send but definately no paparazzi photos:).

Mary looks mad in this photos, she should be used to being photographed by now. I think that they have plenty of private moments that they enjoy without the media intruding. Also, she is lucky that they get to take vacation whenever they want and money is not a problem.

Well, I dont think its nice when photographers are taking pictures of you leaving your home or even sneaking anywhere around the property to take that one shot.

See I right: It are just Crownprincess Mary and Prince Christian (and a Bodyguard and a Butler (or something like that)). Not Crownprince Frederik and not Princess Isabella... Are there more pictures?

I read from another forum that Frederik were in Arhus in 12th Oct and he went to trend after that and also there were no friends - just family:).

Why should she? There's always a big difference between being photographed at official occassion and being constantly photographed on your own private property doing just normal things. Noone (okay, almost noone) would be interested in pictures of his next door neighbour Mr. Miller or Mrs. Huber loading their luggage into the car for their holidays. So why is it so fascinating seeing famous people doing the very same thing??

That pretty much sums it up.

They are not your regular next door neighbors, they are going to be King and Queen and obviously it is fascinating to see them doing regular things like regular people do, remember the picture of Mary taking the trash out? everybody was discussing it...oh, she is just like us!!! we saw her carrying a bag, who knows if it was trash...we never saw her dump it. So yes, to answer your question it is fascinating.

I think their house at Fredensborg is very public, so they should get used to have photogaphers all around them all the time!I love to see Mary wearing casual clothes! To pitty we don't get to see more photos. Always sorrounding by butlers!!!

The Gardens are open to the public, that's right. But does this fact justifies the fact that there are photographers hanging around 24/7? It still is private property after all. This isn't the way most of us want to spend their lives: http://celebrite.aol.fr/content.do?id=57290&v=1168999977533 Why should others.

Being photographed comes with the territory, the same way it is for a politician, an actress, etc. I think that they have enough privacy, a few photographs when they are on private events is a small price to pay for the life of privilege that they lead. I am not saying that they don't work, they do work, but people are interested in what goes on with their lifes without the public facade. And you are right, most of us don't want to spend our lives being photographed, but then most of us are not princesses who live in a castle.

I'm sure that Mary and Frederick knew exactly what their life will be and also they knew what life their children must live. But I'm not sure did they knew that curiosity will be so big.
