I loved the way Mary said the princesses name for the first time, very clear and concise. Very pretty, musical even. The princes name is a very strong name, will take a bit of getting used to. I just wasn't expecting Vincent.

More on the names: Julie Berthelsen jubler over tvillingnavne
It turns out that probably the most well known and indeed popular Greenlander in DK, Julie Berthelsen, also bear the name Ivalo.
Her sweetheart happens to bear the name Minik.
She was sitting in the airport when she was flooded with text messages from family and friends pointing out the names to her.
She said: "I had goosepimples for half an hour afterwards. I've been laughing a bit of the fact that she is named Ivalo. It's even spelled the same way as my Greenlandic name and even if it has nothing to do with me I'm proud as a peacock and very moved.
Imagine, the first royals with Greenlandic names carry mine and my boyfriends names. that's really big and I'm so honered and glad. My sweetheart was very surprised but took it in a calm fashion. - Though I don't quite think he understands how big it is", laughs Julie Berthelsen.
"I really feel great with them having Greenlandic middle names. I'm in Greenland today in connection with some work and I can report that Greenland is jubilant and moved to tears.
There is no doubt that we love the Crown Prince and his family just as much as he has always loved us and our country. I'll dare say that this is His Higness gesture to Greenland and they should know it warms more than he may realise".
She goes on to explain that to her Ivalo and Minik doesn't mean anything in particular, they are just boys and girls names. - (I guess she should know)!
- Frederik, and probably Mary as well, has met Julie Berthelsen a number of times.
Looking at the pics of Mary I think she looked great as she is right now. She doesn't need to lose more weight.

I didnīt get to see the christening live, but Iīm delighted by the photos.
Isabella very well dressed, a lively child but enchanting, Christian impeccable, the boy cousins as well.
Now, for the twins: beautiful babies, but I canīt get used to Vincent! What an ugly name. Josephine is regal.
The adult crowd well-dressed in general except for that awful red and black dress.
Loved to see Nicholas and Tatiana. What a beautiful couple!!!!

I'm not sure if I'm the only one who's considered the possibility, but does anyone else think the Prince of Asturias absence from the christening could have been motivated not only by official duties abroad, but that he'd have rather not shared a seat next to the Duke of Castro?
If I'm not mistaken, the Spanish Bourbon's do not support Prince Charles' claim to the headship of the House of Bourbon-Two Sicilies.
Just a thought, anyhow...

I just found some new information on the names Minik and Ivalo.
Quote:
The twins' greenlandic names has some special meanings. Minik means ''the one who thrives for milk'' while Ivalo can mean ''butterfly'', ''little sister'', ''little wave'' and ''sewing thread''. While Denmark's relationship with Greenland has been a little tense, the relationship between Greenland and the Royal Family has always been very warm. So the two greenlandic names are gesture to Greenland :).
|
You can find it at the end of ImKas comment on this blog: The Royal Order of Sartorial Splendor: Royal Fashion Awards: Denmark's Twin Christening
I love the meaning "butterfly" and "little sister". And I also like Miniks meaning from this scource. It's the best we have found until now.

I'm a bit disappointed in the choice of names (especially Vincent) but as someone else has said, they're not my children!
Mary's blue dress was attractive, but I don't care for that cream headgear or fascinator.
I thought Marie looked much better than Mary, really lovely.
So did Baroness Helle.
Everyone else was just passable, nothing special.

I really really was not expecting those names for the twins, I mean Christian and Isabella have normal names why change it with these two and why all of sudden add mink to the prince's name and ivalo to the princess it sounds weird.

Who knew baptizing infants could cause so many relatives to party into the wee hours of a week night?

Just for fun:
PC: 3 godmothers / 5 godfathers
PI: 4 godmothers / 2 godfathers
PV: 2 godmothers / 4 godfathers
PJ: 4 godmothers / 2 godfathers
The princes has equal Gdmothers/godfathers and so does the princesses. I donīt think thatīs a coincidence.
Just minus 1 gm and 1 gf from PC, so it looks like he got 6 GPīs and not 8, then it matches up :)

Having relatives in Greenland, I can assure you that it's a big honor for them that Frederik & Mary gave their twins Greenlandic names. Kinda like the Queen having Þórhildur in her name.
Oh & actually, the names sounds different in English than when you say it in Danish, I actually think it sounds prettier when you pronounce them in Danish
