Annual Holiday to Verbier, Switzerland: 2002-2015, 2017, 2018, 2022

(*) This is more a question for English speakers and UK residents in particular. The Danish word for a knitted cap is "hue" or in Jutlandic dialect "lue". Is there a similar word in English dialects for such a headgear? Considering the contacts across the North Sea over the centuries.
We incidentally have several words for cap:
Hue = knitted cap.
Kasket = cap worn by officers or baseball caps.
Alpehue/baret = beret or the larger beret worn the in Alps.
Elefanthue = balaclava.

Here in England we would call the kind of cap Josephine was wearing a "bobble hat". We also use the term "beanie", but that's mostly used when referring to hats that look like this. :flowers:

Thanks for all the links everyone.

Vincent & Josephine's giggles are adorable!

Thanks HeriditaryPrincess & MidwestMom :flowers:

Danish and German indeed share a lot of words and expressions and Alexandra as well as PH have both claimed that Danish is easier to learn if you already speak German. They both say that the grammar is similar. I must admit that I don't see that at all! - Especially as there is no gender in Danish words, nor do we use the or der, die, das. (That is, only in some dialects).
What does astonish me is how many words older (1700's) English has in common with modern Central European.

I am afraid I would simply call it a hat and if I felt it needed it, use adjectives like, wool, fleece, knitted, bomber, or fur. I know people on the forums have used the word beanie for hat but I have never heard it used verbally in this era or seen it in print. Cap I have heard of course in baseball cap but also in a men's cap.
The Pennsylvania Dutch word are quite charming to hear about. I have visited that area and seen the men driving their black carriages
We also have beret and balaclava but most people have never heard of those words

A magazine out today has a few pictures from a ski sport place where F&M and all children enjoy their winter vacation together with Mary's family. I could spot Jane Stephens and her husband and children along. How nice and lovely for them :flowers:

Mary's nephew was also spotted together with Frederik on his last official event, so they must have been in Denmark before they all together traveled on ski vacation.

The link doesn't work for me. I can get to the Legion Media homepage, but the search results are not successful. Is anyone else having problems getting to the last page of this thread? I can get it on my laptop but not my desktop. Bad day in cyberspace, I guess.

:previous: Thank you, polyesco - my curiosity has been satisfied. Presumably the twins are at ski school or enjoying some hot chocolate by the fire. Yes, Isabella has had a growth spurt.

Official Fotoshoot of Verdier probably not?

Sorry...Verbier...no Verdier :)

That is a very beautiful photo of Mary with Isabella. They are probably wrapping up their vacation as Frederik is regent starting Sunday.

For some reason, I forgot about the Verbier holiday this year, so it was a lovely surprise for me to see the photos. I love that Mary took the official ones herself. All the children look adorable, and Christian looks a lot like Frederik in this photo, even down to the way he has positioned his arm.

Is the Instagram photo of Isabella and Mary a selfie? The angle and the way the two are posing looks like it could be, but I can't tell. It's cute either way though.

:previous:

It is a selfie as it is Crown Princess Mary who has taken the photo :)

I know Josephine is spelt with ph, and not Josefine,
but wouldn't it be Fine and not Phine?

Perhaps I'm thinking in Swedish...
Yes, it would be Fine also in Danish, although it is spelled with "ph" :flowers:

It's a pity we didn't get any pictures with Frederik and Mary in with the kids. It doesn't have to be professional done like the previous years but the parents included wouldve been really nice.

It's nice to see that the couple are joined by Mary's sister, I think this is the first time she has joined them.

I read the weather has been really nice so far in Verbier.

.
Or the first time members of her family have been caught on camera...;)

I remember a picture of Jane in Verbier before, at least once in 2012

Jane and family have joined the CP family several times on their ski vacation. As Polyesco's picture shows :)

(Btw, Mary's family seems to visit their littlesister often despite the long distance and travel. Lovely. Jane were in Denmark also some months ago (last autumn) and John Donaldson was spotted in Denmark in the spring. And Mary's father during the Christmas month)

And Dazzling; there are pictures with F&M and kids together. For example the selfie with Mary/Isabella or Mary's picture of Frederik/Christian.

And yes the family must have returned home today.
Frederik is Denmark's regent from today.
And Christian and Bella's school starts again tomorrow.
