Now that I think about it, my fear is that her parents actually didn't know what to do with her because she was a girl (they were anticipating a boy and it took them over two weeks to come up with a name, so I have read). She became the one to live in the shadows while her character was fit to do anything but that.
It made her a tragic figure and quite possibly the victim of her time.

A little help to recognise the people in this group picture:
in the second row, from left to right: Prince William or Richard of Gloucester?, the Duchess of Gloucester, ?, ?(maybe Prince Charles), the Queen, the Groom, the Bride, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, ?, ?, ?.
in the third row: ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, the Duke of Edinburgh, ?.
Can someone help me with "?" persons?

There is an article in the February Vanity Fair about Princess Margaret and Lord Snowdon. Very interesting indeed.
McAfan next to Queen mother is Marina of Kent and Princess Alexandra
The third row is the Duke of Kent, Prince Michael of Kent. I do not recognise the rest. I am sure someone else can come to our rescue.

Steven, thank you so much for the beautiful photos of Princess Margaret's wedding. I truly enjoyed them and will look at them many times more! She really was a beauty and I think that Lord Snowdon must have been a very proud man on their big day!

Indeed, shame the marriage broke up, though.

Second Row Left to Right:

I think this is Prince Richard of Gloucester; Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester; The Bridegroom's Mother (I think); The Queen; The Groom; The Bride; The Queen Mother; Princess Marina; Princess Alexandra

Third and Fourth Rows Left to Right:

I do not know who the women are but the gentlemen are -

The current Duke of Kent; Prince Michael of Kent; Theor father the old Duke of Kent; unknown; Prince Philip; unknown.

Hope this helps!

As always, thank you very much STEVEN for the lovely wedding pictures.

Something about the British royal weddings that seem to attract me slightly more than others and this is one of them. Impressive.....

I read their love was quite intense but I guess the passion burned out with time. Unfortunate....

When I was 8 years old, I was given a book about "Princess Margaret Rose". I think it was a Ladybird book, and I treasured it for many years.

I had no idea at the time that this was not just a character in a story, but a real life person.....

In the video it looks like Prince Philip walked her down the aisle. I wonder if a royal bride can walk down the aisle alone if their father is dead and they have no other male relative they want to walk them down the aisle.
Either way Margaret looked so beautiful on her wedding day. I just find it sad because she is not marrying the man she wanted.

Margaret was one of the most beautiful Princesses of all time, only royal lady who can compete with her beauty is Princess Grace. Unfortunately Margaret lived hard and as she grew older she did not age well.
Her dress is my all time favorite of the British Brides, even the replica her daughter in law wore couldn't compete with the original. Like Mette-Marit, sometimes the simple dresses outshine the fussy ones.

I found this short footage on youtube. would love to see the full service someday but this is all I can find so far.
Notice near the start Prince Phillip seems to make a joke to her and she doesn't really respond- she is either very nervous or not happy.

Margaret's dress is definitely high on my top ten list! She looked absoutely exquisite. The dress is beautiful, classic, regal, and timeless. I love the full skirt with the long sleeved v-neck top. Her veil is also very beautiful and goes well with the dress. The tiara and necklace were also breathtaking! At first I thought the tiara was too big for a wedding but, I know think it's very suitable for the look. Great discription when The Times said, "It was as though she moved in a soft white cloud". A majestic yet simple dress.

Princess Margaret's wedding dress is one of my favourites too and it has managed to stay in fashion all these years. It's simple but so elegant. Loved the tiara so sad that had to be sold off.
