Prince Laurent on his own,Princess Clare absent yet again :whistling:

Princess Claire is present this afternoon at the military parade

There were 40+ expensive ministers on front row, seated on plastic chairs, but there is no money to have the military dressed in parade uniforms or ceremonial tenues, like in all countries around Belgium. The École Militaire was the only detachement in proper uniform and also marching in perfect formation.

All other detachements wore daily tenue (camouflage dress) which looked quite pauvre, the marching was sloppy and uninspired. Even the Escorte à Cheval looked poor. All these litte tricolore flags at the lances were worn out. No fresh sparkling proud and fiery black-yellow-red but sun-bleached old rags. The uniforms were worn-out and one could spot that there are lots of female gendarmes (fantastic) in that escort but that they have to wear old male oversized uniforms instead of properly tailored costumes. What a poverty.

The King, Queen and their children looked absolutely fabulous. They can not help it that all these countless ministers do not manage that Belgium at least has properly dressed military.

Just watch Quatorze Juillet, the Trooping, Prinsjesdag, etc. and the difference is painful.

Well , I saw also the Defilé du 14 juillet and did not look to our Defilé also because to many ex Ministers , ex Presidents were there

Great to see the photos of the National Day celebrations. Elisabeth already seems to be at ease and charismatic in the crowds, and I love how Gabriel has his shoulders on Eleonore here.

:previous:

After all those years and all those terrible captions, I by now simply ignore them and enjoy the photos only... I can recommend that..;)

Here are some extra photos of the "Fete au parc":

I love the complicity between Elisabeth and Gabriel (2) and also with Emmanuel.

She seems to be such a well-rounded young lady, kind and loving to people in general and her family in particular

I know it's the DM; but this is such a terrible title: Queen Mathilde is not joined by her husband the King. The King is joined by his wife and children...

They have the worst researcher and should win a bad taste award for captions such as these ;)

I don't find odd to see policemen, firemen or soldiers in their daily tenue. The point nowadays in many of these parades is to show people the activities the forces do, not to flaunt shining armours that are rarely used. Even in the Italian National Day parade we have soldiers and policemen in their mimetic suits and daily uniforms, especially when it comes to show special forces or some of the activities the corps do.

Even the "daily tenue" of a Carabiniere is already a ceremonial tenue, in comparison....

I have seen the Italian national day, as we have RAI television as well, and it looked splendid:

Reggimento Corrazzieri

Arma dei Carabinieri

Marina Militare

The point is that a spotless ceremonial and protocol adds to the dignity and prestige. On a Fête Nationale one wants to present themselves in the best possible way.

Military staff preparing for marching for the King (Netherlands)

I have seen old footages from the 1960's and back then the Belgians still had pride in their armed forces. Somewhere in the 1970's they seem to have lost feeling for tradition, decorum and ceremonial in the armed forces.

Nothing compares to Carabinieri and Corazzieri tbh :lol::lol: there are even certain physical standards to respect in order to be recruited. Bersaglieri have a camouflage suit and alpini sometimes show up in their snowing uniform lol. Enough OT, I heard the commentator say that in the late 60s (if I understood correctly) the idea was to dismantle the horse guards and substitute them with guards on motorcycle  and they mentioned king Baudouin. During his reign many things changed in the Belgian monarchy and the protocol. He was a simple man, but ended up transforming the Belgian monarchy into a republic...protocol-wise(no carriages, stopped the court balls, everything done in business suit instead of morning suit) and Albert never seemed to matter much about those things. I was hoping Philippe and Mathilde would bring a bit of the old protocol back, being them so in touch with the foreign monarchies, but unfortunately with the Belgian political situation the monarch needs to be extremely careful not to hurt any political sensibility.

Belgians struggle with such events' organization.

During the commentary they explained this was an original car from the war times, that can happen with historical cars, but a check before the event is always advisable.

The World War I centenary and the Waterloo bicentennial celebration were pretty well organized in my opinion.

I watched the national day parade yesterday on TV5 International and I also found it pretty good. My only complaint is that Princess Claire was underdressed. It is OK in military parades to wear camouflage uniform instead of ceremonial uniform. It is not a march in honor of the sovereign as in the UK or the Netherlands, but rather a celebration of Belgian independence marked by the swearing-in of the first king.

Apart from Kings or Presidents: there are uniforms for parades and uniforms for gala events. I was surprised to see the Belgians apparently only have daily camouflage tenue.

The two detachements with parade uniforms were the Militaire School and Het Koninklijk Escorte. The first one was spotless, superb uniforms and perfect marching. The second one really is in need of fresh and clean uniforms and attributes.

Proof?

1. The tricolore flags are bleached and ragged
2. The rider at the right of the picture misses one épaulette
3. The rider at the left of the picture wears a very old wrinkled uniform and also his épaulette at the left shoulder is in the verge of falling off...

Picture

Sorry, I am the first to praise but this is pretty awful. And that for a Royal Escorte ! This is how foreign dignitaries are welcomed?

I don't know what was going on with Astrid/Laurent and Claire yesterday,Laurent being his usual rude and disrespectful self looking and talking on his phone.

Yes. It remains a mystery why he sabotages it. Dark sunglasses, total desinterest and provocative attitude with a mobile, while in the meantime military are parading.

That he sabotages his father, allez... But that he does ruin it for his brother as well...

He should be uninvited for future events as he'd clearly be anywhere but with his siblings.

The body language and facial expressions in this photo is interesting!

First Prince Laurent started to talk in his phone, Princess Claire saw it but for some reason did pretend she saw nothing. Then Princess Astrid said something to Archduke Lorenz, but he had the same "I saw nothing" attitude as Princess Claire.

Then the King and Queen, on the main dais, stared to the side-dais. Finally Princess Claire laid her hand on Prince Laurent's arm. He reluctantly ended the conversation and took his mobile away. Later Princess Astrid said something but Prince Laurent seemed surprised.

Prince Laurent couldn't be bother it seems to meet and greet and shakes one or two hands and stomps off leaving his wife behind,he should be removed from anything official and reduce his allowance as he's embarrassing.
