I just spotted the queen in her red outfit on the TV,ofcourse I was the only one who knew who she was!

Nice to see Philippe and Mathilde at the match today. I love Mathilde's red dress for the Red Devils!

.

I've already expected Mathilde to wear red today! ? Great that they attended the match to support their team. Belgium though lost with 0:1.

I must admit, the speed with which royals will latch on to any national sporting success is matched only by the politicians.

How about the King enjoys football and wishes to see his national team play? I know for a fact that Prince William would love to watch Englands games, he is an avid fan of football and has watched his local and national team on numerous occasions but due to politics he cannot attend. Phillipe, and his family can so let them enjoy it.

And frankly I imagine the Belgium team felt buoyed by seeing their King and Queen supporting them.

Politicians regularly get taken to task for grasping onto the sporting success of their country, for the positive PR it represents. You mean to say to me that this isn't at least part of the reasons the royals go? As well as the fact they don't have to scratch around on the black market and spend a couple of months salary on a cheap seat.

The idea that professional sportsmen and women perform any better because some person they've likely never met, their 'figurehead' head of state is in the crowd, is beyond ridiculous. These players perform for the teammate beside them, their pride and the love of the game. I very much doubt the Spaniard Roberto Martinez shouted to his team before kick-off, "let's do it for King Philippe/Filip!"

That's great that you think all these things, but don't state them as fact when they aren't. You might think that something is beyond ridiculous, or that Phillipe jumped on some non-existent bandwagon. But not everybody does, so please make your opinions, just that. Don't speak for everyone. :flowers:

Mathilde and Phillipe, along with many other royals support their countrymen in lots of different sports. You just have to look at their current events/general news threads to see that that is a fact. Jumping on a bandwagon would be if they've never been to a game in their life. Phillipe has been to at least two during the World Cup.

I think we'll just leave it at the fact that the King likes football and went to support his national team.

Boring? It was a fascinating game between the two strongest teams of the tournament. With an almost certainty the first team who scores would be the winner and it was France indeed. After the goal it was closer to a 2-0 for France than to a 1-1.

Congratulations to France. Allez les Bleus!

Oh yes, the applause of King Philippe was most weird (with the one hand tapping on the back of the other hand). In Dutch sign language this means: "Gay!"

The handkiss of the Président de la République to la Reine Mathilde was most gallant.

Telephone conversations with President of France Emmanuel Macron and King Philippe of Belgium| President of Russia

After the World Cup semi-final between France and Belgium, the President of Russia had a telephone conversation with President of France Emmanuel Macron, who attended the match in St Petersburg.

Vladimir Putin congratulated Emmanuel Macron and the French fans on the victory of their team, which has put France in the World Cup final.

The President of Russia also talked with King Philippe of Belgium, who also attended the match, saying that the Belgian team played top-class football throughout the championship.

Prince William for the match today:

@KensingtonRoyal

I know how disappointed @england must feel right now but I couldn’t be more proud of this team and you should hold your heads high. You’ve had an incredible #WorldCup, made history, and gave us fans something to believe in. We know there is more to come from this @england team. W"

No doubt the BRF is glued to the TV just now, but i'm not ..

When I was 5 [in 1966] my Mum [who quite likes footie] took me to the V&A museum instead of watching England win the World Cup Final with my Father and brother..

She says the Tube and Museum was like 'the Marie Celeste'..no-one was out and about...
That is one DEDICATED Mother...
