it's a bit disappointing to see the very few royals that attended this year's olympics. of course, predictable given how far rio is from europe (specially as london was so close and it is our latest olympic memory, so most royals were present)... but still low attendance this time. if memory doesn't fail, even beijing had better royal representation.
let's keep fingers crossed for japan in 2020, which is equally far away from europe!
are there no pics of joachim and marie in the opening ceremony?

GD Henri was actually shown when the Luxembourg team came in.

Belgian royals: they'll be celebrating today, because Greg van Avermaet won the cycling roadrace (men), and it's not everyday that Belgium wins a gold medal, so congrats to him

GD Henri isn't leaving that soon. Luxarazzi reports Prince Sebastien will join him on the August 9th. I assume father and son will spend a few days together at least.

A BB video of Joachim, our Marie and children congratulating the Danish cyclist Jacob Fuglsang, on his silver medal: VIDEO: Prinsesse Marie og prins Joachim tog børnene med til Fuglsangs OL-sølvfest | BILLED-BLADET
He says in the video that a delighted Frederik called him to congratulate him.
In another BB article it was reported that Frederik did a couple of dance steps when he heard Jacob Fuglsang got his medal.

Rio will be the olympic games for the kings and princes, apart the royal belgium couple who is present and the next arriving of the swedish couple, we will not see a lot of royal wifes, I hope quenn Maxima and her daughters will join the Wilhem Alexander. in the next days.
to see only the princes and kings attending the matchs , it will become quickly boring for the royal watchers, happily there will be the olympic games. but for me the sport is not my cup of tea. it is a pity.!

Today the King and the Premier go back to the Netherlands, so no Dutch royals anymore in Rio. When Willem-Alexander still was the Prince of Orange, he also was a member of the IOC, like Prince Albert of Monaco, Princess Anne of Great-Britain and Prince Frederik of Denmark. When Willem-Alexander became King, he resigned the membership of the IOC.
