Qatar emir to change style but keep policy | GulfNews.com
Different article believes the policy will remain the same and also discusses the possible reasons for the abdication:
http://www.irdiplomacy.ir/en/page/19...gn+Policy.html
Excerpt from the article above:
"However, I do not anticipate that the substance of Qatari politics, both domestically and in foreign policy, would change. Before he succeeded his father, the new emir was in charge of implementing the national vision, called Qatar 2030, in which the direction of the country's political, social, and economic developments were outlined, and Qatari foreign policy is too deeply institutionalized and embedded in regional affairs to the new emir to be able to easily disentangle the country from its foreign policy obligations..."

There will be recalibration of foreign policy from aggressive to more discreet and in ling with GCC trends. The new leader started a major change in leaderships at home with more focus on youth issues and more say to citizens. Qatar is the only state in the Gulf to have a written vision and national development strategy, quite a strong undertaking. More investment at home is needed to modernize aging and inadequate infrastructure in central Doha and nearby. Dubai may be the nearest example but Doha is too small and extremely overcrowded. This needs real innovation in road networks and metro, etc..I am sure the father Emir will continue to influence initially much of the big issues. Good luck Shaikh Tamim!

It appears that both parties enjoyed the visit. It is nice to see King Abdullah undertaking official engagements. He looks frail though.

The visit is really part of mini Haj called Omra in Mecca. The pix are tweeted from the Emir's tweeter. The relationship with KSA will be tricky as the latter has a history of dominating small neighbors and blocking transit of gas pipelines through it soil. The future will reveal how the neighbors will digest foreign policies that were somewhat at loggerhead on hot issues. Ah! The mysterious Middle East and surprises, surprises.

Does anyone have the background education of the Emir's wives? Will one have a high public profile at home and abroad? I heard the Emir is a bit conservative compared to his dad.

The new Qatar's Emir has a wife who accompany him in his official visits or who has responsablities as his mother did or she's hidden with no official role as in most of Gulf monarchies?
I heard he has already two wives, right?
