Can anyone correct me if a precedent existed, even 1000 years ago?

Here is an interesting article on Sheikha Mozah after the abdication.

Well,to me it is similar to being the wife of a king and later the mother of the new king,to me it does not sound that unusual... In Jordan,Morocco,Oman etc. you can see the same thing - the wife of the monarch (wheter he is called King,Emir or anything else) usually gives birth to the next Emir/King...

In 1976 Sultan Qaboos bin Saeed al Said married his cousin, Nawwal bint Tariq ibn Taymur. As far as I know the marriage ended shortly in divorce and the Sultan has been unmarried ever since. The divorced couple have no children.

I have read the same, for some reason the marriage of the Sultan from Oman was not very long-lasting-one can only wonder why it ended or why he did not marry again, but this is not the topic of this thread ;-)
I just wanted to give it as example because Sultan Qaboos bin Saeed al Said`s mother was the second wife of the Sultan (Said ibn Taimur) and now her son has inherited the title from his father.
