What an unusual time of year to be on an official visit to a Christian country.

It would kind of you to clarify why the timing is odd. The Christmas is officially over, isn't it?

Dear;
the timing was perfect. New Year is rarely chosen but in fact perfectly all right for foreign visits, Christmas itself (24/25/26 December) would be odd.
The President of Austria had HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani Emir invited to the New Year's Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, one of the most notable events Austria has to offer. Both gentlemen were accompanied by their wives, as it is the tradition in Austria for most official festive events.
All this went well together with talks and meetings to foster the commercial and personal relations between the two countries.

I just thought the timing was odd because government and society in general tend to slow down during the Christmas holiday period, which here in Canada includes the few days before Christmas and the following week leading up to and including New Year's Day.
These kinds of visits involve a lot of work on the part of government officials yet people tend to take vacation days at this time of year. That's why I was surprised. I don't recall seeing any other official visit taking place at this particular time of year.
