Maybe it was Pippa's turn to host or more convenient for her to do so? She doesn't get photographed every time she meets her family and they can't all live their entire lives around the Cambridges.

Those did look like very intrusively close paparazzi though.

Yeah, the closeness of those photos, especially paired with the more distant photos of her father the next day (and the fact that we almost never see anything of her private life) makes me think something went wrong—that there was a plan in place to keep the paps from knowing what was happening or getting that close, but some piece of the execution of that plan was missing or mishandled on the night. Badly.

And then at least partially fixed by morning. Or, actually, by evening’s end, since there are no photos of her exit.

Whilst I feel for Catherine, she looks like a deer caught in the headlights but she is The Duchess of Cambridge and she’s out in a public place. I would imagine she’s been followed leaving KP, and caught on the off but this is always going to happen.

Organisation prevents this from happening.

I think the overly bright lights of the paps are problematic for anyone when they are being blasted full force in your face at close range. No one should be expecting DoS Kate to smile and wave, or to be happy about this aggressive intrusion.

That said, I like what the Duchess is wearing. She has been lightening her hair for awhile now, and it looks good on her. Happy b'day to her mother, Carole Middleton!

Yes, that was very intrusive on the photographers' part, but also not surprising. I feel very sorry for Catherine; on the other hand, after this amount of time it also shouldn't come as a huge shock. While her irritation is justified, it might have been wiser to have more of her game face on show--not smiley/smiley, necessarily, but perhaps more neutral and less obviously rattled. Much less of a story that way.

I too don’t like these pics. They remind me of those hounding Kate Middleton days. With her hand over her face - you can tell she’s annoyed and uncomfortable.

To me what was not right is how close the photographers seem to be to Kate. It appears that she is having to work her way through them to get to the front door of Pippa & James' house. All very reminiscent of c2008 or 2009!

I doubt she and William live entirely holed up at KP and Anmer. She’s surely used to being able to visit friends and family sometimes and have the visits stay private. So I don’t think it’s out of line for her to be surprised and out of sorts when something falls apart and the paps show up.
Of course she is able, at times to visit her friends privately but it is probably easier if she is careful and for a big party, chooses somewhere like KP where the paps can be kept out.... She shouldnt' look annoyed and upset, it just gives them a better picture than if she just didn't react...

Do we know if this was a big party?

I hate those pictures. She's clearly being harassed & blinded by the flashes. Where is her PPO? She should have been driven to the front door & then escorted in.

Do we know if this was a big party?

I don't believe we know anything about it apart from speculation. I don't see why Middleton parties should always have to be either on Cambridge properties or in Bucklebury. And if they did host a big party at KP and the press found out we'd have articles bitching about the Middletons taking over again. Should Pippa never to be able to host a family party at her house? We know they do move around London without being papped in private time.

The worst thing for me is how damn close they seem, like they are one step away from the days of trying to get a disgusting upskirt shot.

Her main reaction, understandably, was to try and cover her face from the glare of the harsh lights. This was definitely a breach of Kate's privacy on what was a private occasion.

I did see a photo of some of the guests leaving (apparently the party had a summer theme judging by the clothing) so it wasn't limited to family and close friends.

But other than that, I haven't seen any mention of how large it was.

The only pic I’ve seen is of Sophie Carter and another woman. Sophie is Kate’s friend from Marlborough College and Princess Charlotte’s godmother so she is certainly a close friend. Both Carole and Michael were at her wedding.

 He's just buying groceries. I don't understand the need for the paps to intrude on his private life.

Oh, my. A slow news day for the Daily Mail. At least he wasn't buying bathroom tissue.

Muriel, I agree. That’s a time I truly don’t want to go back to and Catherine shouldn’t be in that kind of position. Where was her security?

Shock horror! News announcement that royals and relatives of royals buy groceries too :D:rolleyes:

So is he being pretentious if he doesn't shop (uses delivery or a personal shopper) then or when he does shop is it because he's trying to be like the rest of the people (and how dare he)?

You can't win.

He was shopping the day of the birthday party. The suggestion being he was buying last minute party supplies like beer.

Since they couldn't get an inside source to spill the beans, stalking the family to get any hint seems to be the best source :bang:

Oddly neither. The article read more as an advertisement/product review for a beer brand.

The Daily Fail seem to be using James as their new target. Before we would always see these type of articles about Pippa but they've been a bit quiet around her lately.

Pippa is married and with a kid. A bit boring now for the paps.

James is the last single Middleton. And with a new French girlfriend. Far more exciting in their minds to stalk him and consider when he will get married and so on.

What ever will they do when he is married and has a kid :whistling:

Only thing enjoyable for me is seeing the dogs, both Pippa and now James. Mabel is cute. I am trying to sort out the mystery of his dogs. I have seen one photo with Mabel and seven black dogs (one lab and six cocker spaniels) in his vehicle. And another of him with six black dogs , and 3 golden labs. Okay I am a bit dog obsessed, well animal obsessed, I admit it.

Does he really live in a city flat with NINE dogs?

His dogs are very cute though I do wonder if all of them reside with him in the city as three labs and six Cocker spaniels would need some space to move around in. Perhaps some stay in Berkshire from time to time?

I think Pippa has now settled down, sensibly and given up her attempts to get notice and have some kind of career.. she's probably going to be a full time mum for a few years and I hope she has given up on trying to be a public figure.

Well by then Lady Louise will be old enough to be a tabloid target. I think B&E were both about 17 when the media started reporting on their love lives.

Interesting. To my knowledge she still writes for Waitrose. Do you believe she's planning to quit her job in the near future?

I don't really see how Lady Louise comes into the conversation. The discussion about the Middletons is not because there is no interesting royal to discus.

Pippa has been tabloid fodder since the wedding. Even when there was Harry and the York girls, and all of their dating/parties and such to discus. There is still Beatrice and her dating exploits, and yet the Middletons still make the tabloids.

Unless Louise does something really rebellious, not likely she is going to get much tabloid attention anyways. Like Peter, she is likely to be able to fly under the radar if she lives private.

You pondered what the media would do when James becomes boring, thus my answer. The younger generation will become the new interest, Margaret's grandkids (this has already started) and the Wessex kids. Peter wasn't that much under the radar in the early 2000s. I remember his girlfriends being reported on. Heck I even remember when his american ex-gf did an interview putting him on blast.

James being the youngest means the media will have to branch out to other families. I'm just hoping Tallulah Goldsmith avoids the media glare, she already had enough for a lifetime because of her father.

I didn't realize James Middleton was a member of the royal family. Wow

We are talking two different categories here.

Royal gossip vs extended family.

The royals will always have someone to gossip about. Harry may be married but there is Beatrice, and eventually others.

Then there are those who are loosely associated with the royal family. The Spencers got some attention. Any in laws of the BRF get some attention if there is something to write about.

Lady Louise and James Middleton have nothing to do with one another. Media speculation didn't move to James, because there were no royals to talk about. Just like media speculation didn't move to Pippa because there were no royals to talk about. There was Harry and the Yorks, and there is still Beatrice and her dating life.

If James becomes boring the tabs may have to find other royal in laws who are of interest. More likely either the Markles will get some more speculation or Edo and his family background. Then Tallulah will.

I disagree with some of your post.

1. James gets covered because he is related to four HRHs not because he is one himself. Same will be true for Margaret's grandkids and the Wessex kids. They aren't HRHs either but being related to royals is enough to drive interest.

2. Speculation does move from one to another when the well dries up with the former. The tabs have pages to fill and want to gossip about the anything in proxy to the BRF. If James is boring they will look for other relatives, the younger the better because the 18-35 year-old readers give them the best ad revenue. When Catherine married and it was harder to stalk her they moved their focus to Pippa. Now with Pippa, Harry and Eugenie all married and with Beatrice living in the USA, they are settling for obsessing over James when previously he was of lesser interest to them.
