Carole Middleton's maiden surname was Goldsmith. Are she and her brother related to Jamima Goldsmith and her family? Or it's just coincidence

No relation at all, or the biography I have of Kate which goes through about seven generations of her family on both sides would have mentioned it.

I don't click on The Mail so I'm not sure what the article says, but I thought I remember that James Matthews loaned James Middleton some money for his boomf company. If James Middleton was unable to repay the loan, maybe this is his way of reimbursing his brother-in-law. Or maybe it has nothing to so with that and James just wanted a quirky job with beautiful scenery. Either way it's an interesting James update.

“WITH a steely stare and those slender cheekbones, it is not difficult to see the similarities between these two remarkable women

And as Kate continues to ready herself for the onerous duties of a future Queen, the tale of her remarkable great grandmother shows how public service truly runs in the family.

The extraordinary story of Olive Middleton - and the tragedy that beset her family - can be revealed today as Britain remembers the fallen heroes of the Somme

Born Olive Lupton, she, her three brothers and sister enjoyed the life of aristocratic luxury before Britain was ravaged by the outbreak of the Great War.

She grew up in opulent surroundings at the family's ancestral seat of Potternewton Hall Estate, near Leeds in Yorkshire, after being born into one of the pre-eminent families of her time

Her father Francis Martineau Lupton was a wealthy businessman, running the family merchant and cloth making operation, and was also an influential Liberal member of parliament.

Like many of the great families of Britain at the time, they lived the ultimate high life.

Olive's three brothers - Maurice, Lionel and Francis - reputedly drove around Cambridge in a Rolls Royce whilst studying their at Trinity College like their father before them.

They were set to follow him into the family business too, before the First World War broke out and all three signed up for service.”

There is a likeness between Catherine, James, George and Pippa with their ancestors.
Thanks for the historical pictures.
It's an interesting story and is a reminder of the sacrifice many families made.
So glad there are places that preserve these things.

Catherine's great-grandfather Charles Goldsmith also served during WWI, in France with the Royal Fusiliers. His brother John enlisted too but died of meningitis at Stockwell Hospital in 1915.

Last week, ahead of #Armistice100, The Duchess of Cambridge visited #IWMLondon to view letters from our Documents Archive relating to the three brothers of her great-grandmother, all of whom fought and died in the First World War.

Who will you remember? Discover @LivesOfWW1.

Apparently James Middleton has given an interview to a german newspaper to say that he's looking forward to a full family Christmas as Bucklebury this year. Some have taken this to assume that Catherine and William will not be at Sandringham.

You mean Sandringham.

We never know. They might spend Christmas at the Catherine’s family home and join the royals later at Sandringham.

It probably is the Middletons' turn to have the Cambridges for Christmas. Everyone no longer goes to Sandringham every Christmas.

It will split the press pack though--some of them will go to Bucklebury hoping for Christmas church photos. There were some good ones 2 years ago.

That is overall, a really flattering article if you set it against the way she has been played in the press.

Of course Lisa Armstrong dug for the royal connection and upwardly mobile bits, but Carole come across as very stable, driven at business, self deprecating and a tad dull. Which is not any of it a bad thing to be.

And I love it when an interviewer is honestly surprised at someone's charm or looks.

And after 30 years, Party Pieces deserves a bit of a write up.

Very nice interview from Carole. Gone the idea that Royal in-laws have to shut up and be locked away in dungeons.

Well, that idea has been gone for decades. The Spencers, Parker-Bowles and the Queen's maternal cousins have long broken out of that dungeon.

It was a cute but bland interview. No new info for royal watchers but the general public will learn more about the history of Party Pieces. You can tell Carole's so proud of the business that she built, as she should be.

Yeah, I know. I only said that because when there was speculation that the new mother-in-law could possibly give an interview, folks on the forums we’re having meltdowns.

It’s interesting to know, Carole, read those endless stories about her up to last year. I and so many others thought she ignored such nonsense.

Well, some of them should shut up - though maybe without the being locked away in a dungeon part.

And as for Carole, she proved once again how classy, intelligent and overall amazing person she is. It's really impressive how well Middletons have handled themselves, and for such a long time!
