The Duchess of Cambridge as
Patron of the National Portrait Gallery

Announced January 5, 2012

"Founded in 1856, it has the most extensive collection of portraits in the world — more than 160,000 spanning from the 16th century to today, including painting, sculpture, photography and video.
Entrance to the permanent collection is free. It attracts 1.8 million visitors a year and generates nearly 60 per cent of its income from memberships, paid-for exhibitions, its restaurant, publications and corporate support. The rest comes from a government grant of £7,577,000."

Thank you all for the great links and photos. Kate looks very enthusiastic and confident at flying solo.

She looked great, love the hair, dress, and shoes.
Was she there just to give the exhibit promotion or to learn more about what she is a patron of? JW
Also does it look like she cut her hair?

perfect, just perfect! good for kate! she is absolutly royal lady.

:previous:this shot is so reminiscent of Diana.
thanks for posting -

I think Kate looked wonderful and I think she is getting more comfortable with her jewelry; nice to see the bling!

Yes, that is a great shot of Kate with the camera flashes and from what I can see of some photos where her hair is away from her face, she's wearing the art-deco earrings and also the diamond bracelet first seen at the BAFTA gala in LA. And her hair does look a bit shorter; it seems to spring up a little more.

Good solo performance by her.

She looks lovely. She looks very at ease doing an engagement alone.

She Look Wonderful Very Elegant I like her Outfit and Dimond Bracelet , First Time She attend official event without Prince William :flowers: Thanx For ALL :flowers:
Very Nice Pictures

I think I'm safe in saying Kate pulled off her first solo engagement w/flying colours!!

Love that outfit. ITA w/those who said it's very 50's in look, but also very classic and classy. Also love the bling Kate paired w/it.

She looked relaxed and confident and it was lovely to see. From all accounts, Kate did a fantastic job w/her first engagement as Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge.)

Thanks to one and all for the links!!

Very lovely. The Duchess choose a very worthy event for her first outing and she looked absolutely lovely.

She looked at ease during this event. I'm hoping that we'll have the opportunity to see her at another solo engagement soon.

The Portrait Gallery must be accustomed to special events, and the directors would have much experience in speaking to people about art, all of which eases the event more than (for example) visiting land mine victims. I think she chose her event well - and that it's important she have some fun on her own while William is away.

It's the sort of thing a young woman would want to do anyway, but I wonder how it feels for her that she can't really just pop in during regular hours and have a peek at the Lucien Freud exhibit?

Well once again Catherine has done an excellent job. She looked wonderful and she handled her first solo appearance with grace and ease. She is a natural and thank goodness she was prepared and given time to ease into her new role. I think William will be very proud of her. Well done Catherine.
