Now that is what I deem a very beautiful photograph of a 5 year old child where all is happy in his world. He's so cute!

Has it really been 5 years since we waited with bated breath with the crowd outside the Lindo Wing for his birth? Time is flying by faster than I can process sometimes.

Happy 5th Birthday to a very happy Prince George! The photo taken by Matt Porteous after Prince Louis Christening!

Such a cute little boy and what a big smile.

George is such a sweet little boy, his smile is infectious! ?
I love how natural and “normal” the photo feels, just like any other child at a special occasion.
I hope George has a lovely birthday tomorrow. I can’t believe he’s five already.

I know it's from The Sun but this story for once seems quite believable - it came up on my trending phone news feed and I thought it was quite a nice little snippet to share.
George is apparently unaware of his future role as William and Catherine plan to tell him what he is to expect when they feel he is ready due to the burden William felt as a child:

Well I would think they would just tell him age appropriate 'what he needs to know'..I mean he has to wonder about all the attention on he and his family. The security people etc.

Article: The happy prince: Wills and Kate release charming new photo of Prince George | Daily Mail Online

Oh my! Totally adorable! :flowers: Well done, Kate! (I assume she took the snap!)

I believe it was taken by the same photographer that took the photos from Louis' christening. George's photo was taken at the same time.

Thank you, Osipi! :flowers:

The Daily mail saying the photo gives a glimpse into his life- of how well he stands against a wall :ermm:

I miss the earlier birthday photos. On a swing, or feeding ice cream to his dog. Or Charlotte playing in her chair. Lately they have been like head shots. Tells us what their parent's fashion choices are at best.

I much prefer the candid photos from the polo field. There we see the happy fun little boy with a big grin, playing and enjoying his cousins :flowers:

Happy birthday to the little prince.

It was the photographer that took the one photo of Kate and the smiling Louis, not the one that took the formal posed Christening photos.

Matt Porteous not Matt Holyoak--there were two different photographers.

Perhaps not yet. Young children know the environment they are in and aren’t necessarily aware that other children have different lifestyles. He’ll certainly start figuring it out as he grows older and develops friendships where he sees that other families don’t get all of that attention.

Really love the new birthday photos for the birthday Prince ,hard to believe he is 5!

I love the new photo of George and his big five year old smile.
Maybe we’ll see a missing tooth or two in next year’s photo!

The epitome of a happy, healthy boy growing up in a loving, stable environment with loving parents, siblings and family! What more can one ask for? William and Kate are doing a fantastic job as parents and have built a fantastic foundation for a future strong BRF!

That’s a little Michael Middleton in that birthday portrait.

Agree I see mostly Michael Middleton. For the first time though, I see QE2, Prince Charles and Anne in his big smile.

I miss those, too, but I also remember that when my kids were that age we went through a phase where it was very hard to get those natural photos. Kids of George’s age often turn towards the camera and cheese it up with a pose as soon as they see that pictures are being taken, and it can take a little while to break them of that habit.

For me he's always been a blend of Michael and William.

There was no sign of any protection officer....Strange... Prince George is third in the line to throne.

I think we're seeing George in the back seat and the PO in the front passenger seat as that is usually where they sit.

The overall solemn demeanor coupled with the sudden broad, cheeky smile is the Queen all over again.

I think what we are seeing is a little boy abashed at all the people with cameras 'over there' when he is in public. A very honest reaction. (Charlotte is the unusual one). :flowers: This picture is letting us see what a bright penny George really is in the comfort of his family. It's a fair distinction, I think.

I think George is more reserved like some of the other BRF....Charlotte is more like Harry/William when they were kids.

I agree. I don't think it would have sinked in for George just yet, but by the time they reach a certain age children become more curious and aware of the world so I can imagine that George will realise when he's older. From things like Trooping the Colour and meeting important delegates, he may realise now that he's someone important (as even though he probably socialises with many upper class children they won't be doing official engagements), but he probably won't necessarily equate that to being a future monarch.

For me he's always been a blend of Michael and William.

I think he looks very much like Michael Middleton, with a bit of William and Diana in the smile. Charlotte looks more like the Windsor and Spencer sides (someone posted a comparison of Charlotte and Diana at similar ages and they look quite similar). I think that Louis looks more Middleton right now, in the photo of him smiling that they released at the christening he looks very much like Kate did as a baby.
