The remaining negativity surrounding him was because he presumably was homosexual and involved in the Cleveland Street scandal. However, it should hardly stop William and Catherine from naming a son Victor that a distant relative named Albert Victor (and didn't even go by Victor in the family, but Eddy) was homosexual. Besides, I doubt the average person thinks of Albert Victor when hearing the name Victor.
You have raised a good point. For me, when I think of or suggest names negative connections or past negative connections are a quite a big factor, so I guess my post was more from my personal point of view, if that makes sense. As an example, I would stop liking a name if I have a personal negative connection with it - all the people I have known called Katrina have been unpleasant, so I don't like the name (if anyone here is called Katrina, please don't take this personally, by the way).

I think that they would choose to honor the William's grandparents before Victoria and Albert.

I wasn't saying that they should not use any name that is already in use in the RF, because that would mean William and Catherine would have to cross off a lot of names on their list. I just meant that they might not use it as it would get confusing at family gatherings, but I understand that there is such a thing as nicknames and also that Lord Nicholas is more 'minor' than Prince George, so they wouldn't bump into each other that often.

I'm not a fan of the name Michael, so I hope it's not used, unless the Cambridgeshire use it as a middle name.

The Middleton Non-Fan Club would be apoplectic if baby's first name was Michael, and not Charles, Phillip, etc.

I don't remember reading it in any articles at the time, but it was discussed a lot by us leading up to and immediately after the name announcement.

It was reported that George's name was picked because it was one the Cambridges liked. I think it's likely they'll follow suit with this child - pick a name that they like that is royal and also subtly honours family.

Philip hasn't ever been used in the British Royal family either. I suppose historically it's more associated with the Spanish royals, but Prince Philip of Cambridge doesn't sound too bad!

What about Phillip Michael Charles Peter

That would represent both the Windsors & the Middletons.

Since George has only 3 names (George Alexander Louis), I assume his future sibling won't get a fourth name either.

If it's a girl, I believe Victoria Diana Elizabeth (HRH Princess Victoria of Cambridge) would be appropriate.

I agree, Prince Philip of Cambridge has a nice ring to it – and so does Prince Philip of Wales which he eventually will be. I am sure the DoE would be more than pleased to have a great-grandchild named after him (but I am also a firm believer that had Catherine's sister not been named Philippa, that's what they would have called a daughter).

Philip Albert Edmund sounds lovely to my ears.

I do think William and Kate have more choices than they did with George. For their eldest they were expected to choose something very traditional, but a second child, whether male or female, is unlikely to succeed.
So they can really go wild...(not that I think they will).

Sophia is a lovely name but is so overused here in the U.S. (most popular name if you count the variant Sofia. I hope they go with something a little underused.

Although, I have to say I love the name Anne-Sophia, which was the name of one of the daughters of Queen Anne, who of course died young. I doubt we will see this name as Anne is already in use, and there's Sophie Wessex.

I really hope they have a girl and name her Victoria Charlotte Diana or these 3 names in any sequence.

I'd read somewhere that Charles and Diana wanted to name their daughter (if they had one) Victoria, so that would be a lovely tribute to not just Diana but Charles as well and one of the UK's most well known and longest reigning (atleast for the moment) monarch.

Diana because well William seems to honour his mums memory and I'd really like to see the name make a comeback. Though I feel they'll steer away from Diana and honour her in another way. I do see Harry using Diana for his daughter (if he has a daughter).

Charlotte - It's a lovely name and there's already been a Charlotte of Wales (this Princess will most likely become a princess of Wales when William becomes prince of Wales). It'll also be a nice nod to Charles and Carole (Charlotte is a variation of the 2 names). And for the Diana fanatics a nod to the Spencer family - the Earl Spencer's youngest daughter is Charlotte Diana.

Victoria Elizabeth Diana
Victoria Elizabeth Charlotte
Victoria Diana Charlotte

I think it would be nice to have Elizabeth as the second name though...

I don't think they will use diana in the name...i think there is a better chance of Francis (sp?) being used.

i do think there top names for the last one were probably Alexandra and Victoria...so those are probably at the top of the list for the next one IF its a girl..

Obviously the first name will be super traditional...other names I like are mary...charlottes nice too...but, I don't that will be a first name.

If Elizabeth is not the first name (for HM), I think it will be the 2nd name as that is both Catherine and Carole's middle name. One reason I think Charlotte Elizabeth is a strong contender is that it would be a continue both the mother and grandmother's monograms of 'CE'
