It will pass to which of his 3 kids he leaves it to. Or who he sells it to, it simply goes with owning land.

Countessmeot seems to not understand the way the landed gentry work. David Matthews is the current laird of Glen Affric. He apparently does not use the title. His son James, is listed at the UK companies house records as the "solitary managing director of the 10,000 acre estate". Hence, it is James, not his brother Spencer, or half- sister Nina, who will inherit the management and indeed the estate itself. This was reported in many, many media outlets last month. It means that - should she choose to do so - Pippa will one day be given the courtesy title Lady Glenaffric - as widely reported.

Who is Lady Pippa? Philippa Middleton is not and probably never will be Lady Philippa.. unless her father is granted an earldom. Unlikely....
thte "title" that her future husband has, is not a real title and it would be very silly for her to use it...
 
:previous: The Matthews are not a landed gentry family and the estate in Scotland owned by David Matthews is not a landed estate as it is understood in Britain, (that is an estate purchased by an ancestor or granted to him by a King in days gone by, and subject to the laws of promigenture in which an estate is handed down for generation after generation from father to eldest son, or nephew or other nearest male heir.)

This piece of land was bought by David Matthews some years ago as a purely commercial venture, in order to develop a luxury hotel complex on it. The Matthews family don't live there. They live in Switzerland and in London. With this piece of land came a lairdship (a purchase.)

Yes, James Matthews may well manage this hotel and the land around it for his father, who is by now probably semi-retired. However, that does not mean that when David Matthews dies his eldest son James will (as happens with landed families) gain the family lands, estates and properties. He may do, he may not.

Spencer Matthews, James's brother stated in an interview that his father does not intend to leave huge amounts of wealth to his children. He believes apparently, in offspring making their own way in life. Therefore, when David passes he may choose to state in his will that all his different business enterprises such as Eden Roc and the complex in Scotland be sold off and the proceeds left to a charitable foundation or to his widow or to another relative altogether.

That property in Scotland isn't entailed (as far as we know) and David is under no obligation whatsoever to leave it to James. He may choose to leave it to him as a business venture, he may not. He himself doesn't use the lairdship title and James himself may or may not use it even if the Highland hotel is left to him to administer.

It's in the lap of the gods, or rather the choice of David Matthews, as to whether his son will be owner of the estate in the Highlands or not in another ten or twenty years. If he isn't then the lairdship will go to the new owner.

Even if he does inherit, it is not a real title. It is not a peerage, did not have the right to a seat in the Lords etc and it would IMO look silly for Pippa or whoever inherits the land to use it.

Just my thoughts but I've always read a situation like David Matthew's being a Laird in Scotland as a lot of people around the world think that their home is their castle. The title of Laird should James inherit from his father is just saying he is the "King of his castle". It, in no way, is the same as a title in the peerage.

On the same note, we own our property here and we call it "Belly Achers" (sounds similar to our last name and acres). So, in effect I'm Queen of Belly Achers. :D

I'm surprised they didn't point out that Pippa is wearing similar (color/style) wedges to those often seen on Kate! How dare she try to compare herself to the future Queen!

The outfit is blah at best. I don't like jumpsuits and the color is boring. I don't even think it shows off her body as article claims, the awkward design to the top is distracting.

But nice to see her out supporting charity:flowers:
 
I don't mind it, actually. I'm no great fan of grey, love colour, but I think this would probably look better on Pippa in real life than it does in the photo. Of course it's not 'showcasing Pippa's figure', that's just the DM being snide as usual, but it does look quite neat and not distracting at all, which suits the purpose. At least nothing's flapping about!

mmm.. strange choice of media outlet to give an interview to, with the bad reputation that the daily mail has in the UK.
 
Horrible. Just horrible. Good that the UK media reported it, but odds are if overseas publications have been contacted the pics will come out either way :/ Poor Pippa and family!
