Lets not argue - lets be practical instead. The "crowd" was small; it was across a considerable area of grass within the compound; there was a fence; there was a road with moving traffic on it. They came out of a convoy of cars, said goodbye to the escort and got on the plane.

Maybe they didnt even SEE the "crowd"; and if you read some of the posts on this thread, interest in Aus is so so small, its amazing that anyone, inc the media turned up.

Just a practical perspective.

That is SO TRUE! When I watched the video, it was clear that the "crowd" was so far away that there is no way the royals could have noticed them or expected anyone without a zoom lens to see them. No one was slighted!

I just watched the "Sunrise" coverage so I get the logistics of it all now. Not surprised they didn't wave when they were getting onto the plane. From that distance it was not clear that the people were there to see them, and they might not have wanted to look silly by waving at people who were oblivious to their presence.

But we now know that there is definitely one Australian who is excited about the visit! :auflag:

I must watch the "Sunrise" coverage of the rest of the tour. It's great fun.

Ah, if that is the case then I do stand corrected. Far be it from me to expect them to wave while quickly transiting if there really wasn't anyone around. But if there was any media, a quick wave might have sufficed in acknowledgement. But I'm sure that if you were on the tarmac, Roslyn, you'd have been jumping up and down to attract their attention for sure!

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince George have arrived in New Zealand at the start of a landmark royal tour.

OMG….He's pure William there in that one. Thanks for sharing it!!

Fer cripes sake - a pillbox hat! Knock me over with a feather

I love her outfit. And George is definitely interested in what's going on!

Kate was struggling there, trying to keep her hat on in the wind, holding George and trying to hold onto the handrail all at the same time. George looked as if he was about to launch himself out of her arms at one point!

Kate's wearing the Queen's NZ fern brooch too!

What a good boy! He could have so easily been crying or fretful- that's how I feel when I get off a long-haul flight.

Catherine looks lovely! and George is a cutie!

So at this point in time, George and William have opposite hair (top/sides). Someone combed George's up into a bit of a peak - too cute.

Yeah, she really was struggling on the way down. Maybe William should have taken George until they got down the stairs. She looks great though. I really love her outfit. I also love George's outfit...it's adorable.

No doubt somebody will complain that Kate wasn't waving at the same time!

A Catherine Walker outfit and a Gina Foster hat for Kate.

Great job CBC. If you're going to advertise that you'll broadcast the arrival live, then do so -- even if there's a delay. The Passionate Eye episode is a repeat and could easily have been rescheduled or missed just this once.

She certainly was, but did an excellent job all around. My Dad commented on seeing George's attempt to fly out of Kate's arms...

Oh, come on Mom...Let me go and get this thing started.

Kate looks wonderful, but she always does in red, so a perfect choice. On seeing the hat, I was wondering if certain posters around were still upright or not due to Kate, in their eyes, finally wearing a proper hat *and* her hemlines below her knees. Remember to take some deep breaths and everything will be fine. :D

I read somewhere in all the hype that one writer felt that Kate was going to try to start dressing as "befits a mother of a future King of England". It will be interesting to see how her wardrobe is on this trip.
