Everyone is entitled to their opinion and the fact that there are people that will be anti-the-tour, surely the Duke and Duchess should be making every effort to try and persuade people that there are positives to them being there.

How much does a wave cost??

They also have their hands full - Kate had 2 hands on George, William had multiple bags in both hands plus a stuffed toy.

That Sunrise television programme really is just a 2nd rate copy of the Today programme on NBC, isn't it, which in itself is mostly crap?

Hang on, I thought no-one in Australia was interested? So surely there was no crowd of people waiting for a wave? We were assured nobody was bothered.

FWIW, I think William and Kate are trying to save the first proper greeting and showing of George for the New Zealanders. They're just changing planes in Australia, today is New Zealand's day.

Lets not argue - lets be practical instead. The "crowd" was small; it was across a considerable area of grass within the compound; there was a fence; there was a road with moving traffic on it. They came out of a convoy of cars, said goodbye to the escort and got on the plane.

Maybe they didnt even SEE the "crowd"; and if you read some of the posts on this thread, interest in Aus is so so small, its amazing that anyone, inc the media turned up.

Just a practical perspective.

As a mother who has traveled internationally with a small child and fighting the crowds in the airport, I totally sympathize with Catherine. She probably just wanted to get on the plane and finish the trip. They are most likely exhausted and not thinking too clearly. After they got on the plane and settled, they probably realized that they had not waved and wished they had....

I guess people that are looking for faults will expect Catherine to carry George in her teeth, like a dog would a puppy, so that her hands would be free to wave. We really have no clue as to what transpired before. Maybe George wanted to be carried by his mother, and perhaps theybwanted to go from one plane to another as quickly as possible. They're now being run by a baby, who is probably very tired, and has been effected by the long flight, and time change. Would a wave have been nice? Sure, but, this time around one didn't happen. It's not the end of the world.

I loved when the shuttle van blocked their shot during the news footage. Rebecca Deacon had a suit bag and a hat box so there is going to be a wardrobe change for Kate.
 
I wonder if, when George started waving and kicking his legs - was that an "I'm tired get me to bed" or a "let's get this show on the road" ;)

Sorry but they're not on tour yet, they're still flying and they've been flying for a long time. I have my issues with them but give them a break.

I just got home so I didn't see the transfer, but were W&K even aware that there was a small crowd waiting? Was the crowd outside the airport or in the terminal?

I hope this thread doesn't deteriorate into a bunch of posts about how no one in NZ or Australia cares about William and Kate, and how no one is interested in this visit.There are tons of royal visits from members of the different royal families. Sometimes the media and public are interested and sometimes not. But you don't see their threads clogged up with posts about how no one cares.

I'm sure there are tons of folks that couldn't care less about this visit, but there are also many that do. Like for instance, the people that William and Kate plan to meet. I'm sure they're extremely excited to have the kind of exposure that William and Kate can bring to their charities/causes..and isn't that really what this visit is about? Shedding light on different charities and causes, and showcasing different places/events.

George is adorable.

Was it just the angle or did William really look so very bald in the back in that footage entering the RAFNZ plane?
Loved it that Wills carried the diaper bags.

And here is the thing people - no personal attacks on one another - that means no labeling too. OK to say "I disagree" but not OK to label people even something as innocuous as "negative." One man's negative (monarchy) is another's positive (republican) and THAT's OK.

I haven't found any of Iluvbertie's posts to be negative but stating matter of factually how the mood feels where she is. Over the years here, I couldn't begin to express how much I've learned from some of our knowledgeable posters and I definitely count her as one I'd call a royal mentor. :D

William, Kate and George are not puppets. They've had an extremely long flight with perhaps a cranky, fussy baby and from experience, I would bet that their one wish was to get this trip over with and get somewhere where they can get some real rest. Putting on a fake smile and playing to a crowd probably was the last thing on their mind at the time.
 
Oz TV Coverage This Morning - Monday 7th.

Hi Everyone - it's now coming up to 8.00am here in Sydney.

The Duke and Duchess will have to set their watches back a bit before they arrive in "Windy" Wellington - where they'll need their wellington's apparently, as it is so wet currently.

I'm glad someone could help you roseroyal - I'm not really clear about the time difference between Oz and NZ - but the Royal party will "lose" time going there this morning, and gain some extra when they return on the 16th.

I was at the gym this morning so got to see nine TV channels and 7, 9, 10 and Sky News Australia all had different angles of the plane transfer - and slight delays between their broadcasts so I got to see a lot just flipping around the different audio on my headphones.

Seems flight was not British Airways via Singapore, but Australia's Qantas, flight QF2 via Dubai, which touched down at five minutes to six local time.

The Royal NZ Air Force plane was parked quite a distance away in the VIP/Executive jet area, and the road between was closed down.

A lot of TV stations had reporters on the ground and we saw the Royal luggage sitting on the tarmac and everyone spoke about the heavy police presence.

After three-quarters of an hour - after various official parties/aides had already entered the plane, the Royal Couple and PG arrived.

It was reported that the toy Prince William was shown getting out of the boot of the car was a teddy bear backpack.

Before the 7.00am news, a good photo of PG's face was broadcast, then the arrival was the first story in the news reports.

One channel showed the Air Force jet leaving a minute or two after 7.00am.

Some reporters were on air from the New Zealand airport, and Government House.

A strong southerly wind is blowing and it looks like there may be no "crawling on the lawn" photo today as it is so wet.

Sky News Australia started to show ads saying they will be crossing live to the Royal events as they happen in NZ for the next nine days.

Other channels sound like they will be crossing live for the arrival in New Zealand.

All this will be repeated throughout the morning, then on the morning and afternoon news shows.

Then again in the evening for all the people who've been at work.

Can see tomorrow's newspapers' front page here - I think it will be that close up of PG.

Just saw the DM piece. George is the image of Kate's father. He's also a big boy - no wonder that car seat has to face front.

I think it's quite stupid that a journalist handed the microphone towards Kate... Don't you think?
 
It is amazing how 2 and half people can cause such a raucous. George is a cutie and I liked the blue onesie. I am sure all of them are knackered, and I include their helpers when say this too. They have a lot of staff with them who are all just as tired as William and Catherine. I am sure they all just want to get to a bed. Long haul flights are exhausting, particularly jumping through several time zones.

Did they stop in Dubai? I love that airport!

I think that shows that the top priority is **Get the story!** and even an uttered growl from Kate or a wail from George would be heard around the world. It showed absolutely no consideration for a couple traveling with a small baby on a very long and tiring flight.

This is where I wish George had learned to do a raspberry. He could get away with it and also express the family's sentiments at the time nicely.

The poor woman can't even yawn in private. The closest I came to this type of flight I was being ferried on a military transport from McGuire AFB (NJ) to RAF Upper Heyford via Dublin and Rhein-Main. Ended up a 24 hour flight. I was exhausted and I did not have a baby to take care of!
 
I also wish they had turned around and given the crowd a view of George kicking and waving his arms, who is a big strapping boy BTW. It would have only taken a minute of their time and made a nice impression. It's the little things that count, you know.....;)
