Standard practice for HMQ, Charles and Camilla.

It's a common for both the Queen and Prince of Wales to have people from the country they are visiting living in the UK for a reception prior to a visit. I think it's a new take by KP to do it with young people.

I think this is an indication of how important this tour is.

Some people have criticised the events on the tour but it is the Governments of India and UK that has the main say on this. KP can (and obviously has) made suggestions but Govts decide.

People only see the "oh, these are touristy things, they are fun. Just another holiday!"-part of it. What they don't realize is how much PR it actually is for those locations to have William and Kate show up there. They are there to solidify connections with another country on behalf of the government, and yes, government means much buissness stuff and glitzy stuff because that is where the money is. Yes, local culture (which they will have plenty off) and poor children (which they will visit, as they should) make better photo-ops. But they are not there to play cricket because they adore playing cricket in suits and heels in front of cameras. They are there to shine a light and accknowledge that location, as well as the charities for example. People don't understand the things under the surface.

This tour is more like when they went to Singapore and Malaysia. The big tours of Canada and NZ/Aus. are different in nature because they aren't representing the UK. Instead, they are meeting their future subjects as the future King and Queen.

Quite right. People seem to forget 'At the request of Her Majesty's Government' - William and Catherine's 'wants' come last

India wants to show off their country to the world's media and the UK has many large cultural and security ties to India - Aside from China last year, this is about as an important a visit as it gets. I expect the governments to pull out all the stops

The way I understood the press release, the visit was more a case of William and Catherine getting to know India as neither had ever visited the country.

The best thing a new King William (or a King Charles) can do is -like in all continental monarchies- to use the phrase citizens instead of subjects.

Are you saying that people will running to the travel agency or hurry to the website to book tickets for Mumbai, Delhi or Bangalore because the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited projects here or there?

You can always trace back a rise of economic or travel businesses after a royal visit. That´s nothing new and simply a fact.

Just to show you the British press has a sense of humour. This by a reporter who didn't go the Balkans with Charles and Camilla, didn't go to Nepal with Prince Harry but IS going to India with the Cambridges

Not per se. I'm saying that when someone that are already planning to go to India look into travel plans some names might sound more familiar because of their tour. And therefore someone might look into a place they would not have noticed otherwise.

Especially Bhutan will be put on the tourism map by the visit of K&W. Not many people know about it these days. A friend of mine is going in October and she's pretty excited. It's difficult to get there (there is a limit on the number of tourist) and it's very expensive.

Well, it's true that those "work shy and lazy" comments will completely die down when this official royal tour kicks off. The very popular Cambridge's will be on official duty and that's what everyone wants. Also, with The Queen's 90th birthday celebrations coming up; PR wise, things will back on good footing.

With five years of official appearances under her belt, the novelty of Kate as a new member of the “firm” has worn off.

Her day-to-day appearances are not commanding the attention they once did and glowing coverage has given way to questions about her working timetable and use of taxpayer-funded helicopters.
perhaps her newness has worn off, but I would definitely argue that she doesn't grab the attention she once did. When she steps out and is photographed, she's always on the front page of tabloids & newspapers. It's such a stupid thing to say and simply not true. Not to mention, there's plenty of negative press about her. That may not be "Glowing coverage" but it is coverage nonetheless.

The Mirror isn't worth to read. There are so many factual errors in this article that it just gets ridiculous.

Prince William and Kate will have a packed schedule from day one of their maiden visit to India, which begins in Mumbai on April 10.

The British royals will stay at the Taj Mahal Palace. A source told HT, “They will first make a short appearance at former cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar’s Cricket Academy, where they will play cricket with children from NGOs. Sachin Tendulkar will join them there.”

This will be followed by an entrepreneur’s convention in south Mumbai, where they will interact with young entrepreneurs.

Later, the couple will be introduced to some of the biggest names in business and Bollywood at a grand dinner in the Taj’s Crystal Room.

A source said, “Each guest has been invited by the British High Commission. The guest list includes personalities from the worlds of business, sport and film.”
