Interesting that it’s the “King’s Cup,”, not “Queen’s.”

I saw tweets about this but there's nothing official yet - would be great if it is true but slightly sceptical at the moment

William prepping for the future? It is their event which I am sure he would like to last well into his reign. As for the lack of news? It would seem this was an embargo broken.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will host the inaugural regatta The King’s Cup this summer to raise awareness and funds for eight of Their Royal Highnesses’ patronages.

The event, which will take place on Friday 9th August on the Isle of Wight, will see The Duke and Duchess go head to head as skippers of individual sailing boats, in an eight boat regatta race. The winning team will be awarded The King’s Cup, a historic trophy first presented by King George V at Cowes’ Royal Yacht Squadron in 1920.

The eight boats taking part in The King’s Cup will each represent one of the charities that are being supported this year by Their Royal Highnesses. These include Child Bereavement UK, Centrepoint, the London Air Ambulance Charity 30th Anniversary Campaign, and Tusk – four causes of which The Duke is Patron. The Duchess will support four of her patronages; Action on Addiction, Place2Be, the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families, and The Royal Foundation in connection with Her Royal Highness’s work on Early Years.

The Duke and Duchess are strong advocates for sport, and have undertaken work both in the UK and overseas to highlight the positive impact that sport can have on the individual and within local communities. The Duchess in particular champions how the benefits of sport, nature and the outdoors can impact childhood development, and lead to improved physical and mental wellbeing for all. Their Royal Highnesses hope that The King’s Cup will become an annual event, bringing greater awareness to the wider benefits of sport, whist also raising support and funds for the causes that The Duke and Duchess support.

The King’s Cup, for which Land Rover is Presenting Partner, will take place ahead of Lendy Cowes Week. Members of the public can watch the race from the SailGP Race Village along Cowes foreshore, which is free to access and will include an 800-seater grandstand. Footage from the race will play on screens across the town and there will be a number of family-friendly activities and exhibits to promote sailing around the event, including initiatives and programmes for children and young people.

The King’s Cup will be officially launched on Tuesday 7th May at an event at the Cutty Sark attended by Their Royal Highnesses. On arrival, The Duke and Duchess will join children and young people from a number of their chosen charities as they take part in a simulated sailing race, before joining guests to unveil The King’s Cup

"Sleep deprivation society." Be prepared for a long membership.

Yes this is a great event to look forward to this August. The video that accompanies the official announcement showcases the beautiful scenery of Cowes and the racing vessels that will participate.

The eight charities that will benefit are: William-Tusk Trust, Child Bereavement, London Air Ambulance 30th anniversary campaign and Centrepoint.

Catherine: Anna Freud Centre, Action on Addiction, Place2Be and the Royal Foundation's Early Childhood Development focus.

The competitive Cambridges will each skipper one of the boats during the race.

Nice to see the Cambridges together. William looked genuinely happy when asked about his new little nephew which was lovely to see.

The prince was reunited with some former colleagues from the search and rescue team, and he and Kate had a look inside one of the helicopters, with William getting the chance to sit in the cockpit once again. The couple also met volunteers from the Wales Air Ambulance, which operates next door to the search and rescue base, and joined a discussion about the mental health challenges that can arise from working as first responders, which the duke has previously spoken out about.
Cpt Martin Shepherd, deputy chief pilot at the base, said it had been "a real pleasure" for members of the crew to catch up with Prince William, their former colleague, and discuss how the service was evolving.
"The Duke and Duchess have shown their unwavering support for mental health services and awareness through [mental health charity] Heads Together. Our colleagues were able to offer their views on how support for those affected by mental health issues within the search and rescue community continues to improve."
The couple moved on to the Halen Mon factory in Brynsiencyn, on their former home island of Anglesey, where they were to watch the salt-making process.

A very chilly and blustery day in Wales for the Cambridges.

Lovely to see the Cambridges back in Anglesey, which I'm sure was a walk down memory lane for them!
