Maximilian is the youngest of three sons of his parents and last one who marries; Franz (b.1967) has already two children and Ferdinand (b.1969) four; brothers also have half-sister Isabella (b.1996) by his father's second marriage to Elisabeth Jane Kunstadter (b.1966).

The engagement was announced 24 January between Lady Eloise Anne Elizabeth Anson (born 1981) [the youngest of three children of the late Thomas Patrick John Anson, 5th Earl of Lichfield (1939-2005) of Shugborough Hall, Staffordshire & his former wife, Lady Leonora Mary Grosvenor (b.1945) daughter of the 5th Duke of Westminster.] & Louis Alexander Philip Waymouth (b 1978) [son of Mr Nigel Waymouth & his late wife, Lady Victoria Mary Verenia Braganza Yorke (1947-2004)]

Louis Waymouth is a grandson maternally of Philip Grantham Yorke, 9th Earl of Hardwicke (1906-74). Paternal grandmother of the bride-to-be was Anne-Ferelith Bowes-Lyon (1917-1980, maternal first cousin of QEII).
