First deaths of 2014:

Countess Anne-Dorthe of Rosenborg, nee Nielsen died at Gentofte on 2 January.

She was born at Copenhagen on 3 October 1947, and on 27 February 1971 she married in Lyngby Count Christian af Rosenborg (1942-2013), born Prince of Denmark, son of Prince Knud of Denmark (1900-1976) & his wife, Pss Caroline Mathilde of Denmark (1912-1995). She is survived by their three daughters - twins Josephine and Camilla (b.1972) and Feodora (b.1975) and seven grandchildren.

Jean-François de la Croix, Duke of Castries (b.1938, son of René de La Croix, count de Castries, & his wife, Monique de Cassagne de Saint-Jean de Libron), died at Paris on 2 January, survived by his wife, France, and by a son and stepchildren.

Dorothea Countess Razumovsky von Wigstein, née Princess of Solms-Hohensolms-Lich, died at Lich on 2 January 2014.

She was born at Lich on 11 December 1935, daughter of Hermann Crown Prince of Solms-Hohensolms-Lich (1902-1940) & his wife Gertrud, née Freiin und Herrin von Werthern (1913-1987). She married in Lich on 17 May 1959 Andreas Count Razumovsky von Wigstein (1929-2002) and is survived by their three children and their families.

Prince Martin Lobkowicz died on 4 January 2014, aged 85.

He was born at London on 21 December 1928, the eldest son of Prince Maximilian Lobkowciz (1888-1967) and his wife, née Gillian Margaret Hope Somerville (1890-1982). He had been married since 1952 to Margaret Juett, by whom he had three sons and one daughter.
He is survived by his wife, their four children and their families.

Count Alain de Liedekerke de Pailhe passed away on 02 January 2014, aged 86.


He was born on 04 October 1927, son of Count Paul de Liedekerke de Pailhe and of his wife, née Countess Anne d'Oultremont. He was married to his distant cousin Countess Anne de Liedekerke de Pailhe, by whom he had five children.
He is survived by his wife Countess Anne, their children and children-in-law Count and Countess James de Liedekerke de Pailhe, Count and Countess Evrard d'Ursel, Count and Countess Hubert d'Ursel, Count and Countess Hugues Pother de La Morandière, Count and Countess de Villegas de Clercamp, their eleven grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mother Paola di Napoli Rampolla, of the Princes of Resuttano and Bonfornello, died in Rome on 14 January 2014.

She was born in Siena on 26 October 1921, the eldest daughter of Don Vincenzo di Napoli-Rampolla, Prince of Resuttano and of Bonfornello, and of his wife, née Countess Teresa di Bulgarini d'Elci. She was a nun.
She is survived by her siblings Francesco, Eleonora and Ferdinando and by many nephews and nieces.

Countess Agnes Miloradovich, née Baroness von Hoenning O'Carroll, passed away on 3 January 2014 in Dülmen, Germany, aged 77.

She was born in 1936, the second of the eleven children of Baron Zdenko von Hoenning O'Carroll (1906-1996) and of his first wife, née Princess Margarete Lobkowicz (1913-1946). In 1948 her father remarried to Princess Aldegunde of Bavaria (1917-2004), by whom he had five more children.
She married in 1959 to Count Serafim Miloradovich (1929-2008), by whom she had four daughters: Alexandra (wife of the Duke von Croy), Marina, Tatiana and Larissa.
She is survived by her daughters and their families.

Among her many nephews and nieces are Fürstin Johanna Reuss, née Baroness Raitz von Frentz, and the late Count Stefan von Walderdorff (husband of Princess Marie Therese von Croy, the sister of Agnes' son-in-law Duke Rudolf von Croy).

Lady Margaret Helen Isla Marion Tennant 1920-2014

_. The Lady Margaret Tennant, who died 22 January, 2014, aged 93, was a scion of the Earls of Airlie (Peerage of Scotland, cr 1639). She was the former Lady Margaret Helen Isla Marion Ogilvy, born 23 July, 1920, second daughter of David Lyulph Gore Wolesley Ogilvy, 7th Earl of Airlie, KT, GCVO, MC (1893-1968), by his wife the former Lady Alexandra Marie Bridget Coke (d 1984), daughter of the 3rd Earl of Leicester; he siblings included the 8th Earl of Airlie, KT, GCVO, PC (b 1926), sometime Lord Chamberlain to the Queen, and the Hon Sir Angus Ogilvy (1928-2004), husband of HRH Princess Alexandra of Kent, the Queen's cousin. She married 11 July, 1946, Capt Sir Iain Mark Tennant, KT (1919-2006), of Lochnabo House, Elgin, co Moray, scion of the Barons Glenconner, chairman of Grampian Television for over 20 years, by whom she had issue, Mark, Christopher (deceased), and Emma. The funeral is at St Columba's Church, Elgin, Monday, 3 Feb, 2014. -=-

She was born at Rome on 17 March 1917, daughter of Don Rufo Vincenzo Principe Ruffo, Principe della Scaletta (1888-1959) and his wife, née Gabriela Contessa Bacci (1892-1978). In 1947 she married Nobile Manfredi dei Conti Terzi (1916-1969).

Lady Mary Cecilia Clayton, nee Leveson Gower (maternal first cousin of QEII) died on 13 February.

She was born on 12 December 1917 as a firstborn daughter and older child of Lady Rose Bowes-Lyon (maternal aunt of QEII; 1890-1967) & her husband, William Spencer Leveson Gower, 4th Earl Granville (1880-1953).
She married on 7 July 1956 Samuel Wittewronge Clayton (younger son of Brigade General Sir Gilbert Fallingham Clayton) by whom she had a son Gilbert (b.1958) & daughter Rose (b.1960) as well as a grandson, Samuel Wittewronge Kit Clayton (2002) - son of Gilbert & his wife Rosalind, nee Mullen.
Her only brother, Granville James Leveson Gower, 5th Earl Granville, who was a year younger than she, died in 1996. In 2005 she also lost her niece, Lady Marcia Leveson Gower, who died aged 44, bereaving four children.
Apart from her descendants she left two nephews Granville, 6th Earl Grenville (b.1958) and Niall (b.1963) and their families.

Antoine de Gramont, 14th Duke de Gramont and Prince de Bidache, died on 18 February 2014 in Houston, Texas. He was 62.

He was born on 26 April 1951, the only child of Henri, 13th Duke de Gramont, and of his wife, née Odile Sublet d'Heudincourt de Lénoncourt. He became the 14th Duke at his father's death in 1995.
He was married since 2003 to Catherine Forget, by whom he had a son in 2008.
He is survived by his wife and their son Antoine (now the 15th Duke de Gramont and Prince de Bidache).

Katharine Bowes-Lyon, Elizabeth II's cousin, died on February 23 2014. She was 87.

Katharine was born on 4 July 1926 and was the youngest daughter and child of John Bowes-Lyon and his wife, The Hon. Fenella Hepburn-Stuart-Forbes-Trefusis. Her father was a favourite brother of The Queen Mother. She was mentally handicapped and was admitted to the Royal Earlswood Hospital. Two Years ago, she appeared in a documentary entitled The Queen's Hidden Cousins.

His Excellency,Don Adolfo Suárez González, 1st Duke of Suárez, Grandee of Spain & former Prime Minister of Spain died today in Madrid aged 81.He served as Prime Minister from 1976-1981 and was ennobled by H.M.King Juan Carlos and raised to the rank of 1st Duke of Suárez, Grandee of Spain a Hereditary Title in 1981.

Susan Duchess of Montrose, who died 13 March, 2014, aged 85, was the widow of James Angus Graham, 7th Duke of Montrose (1907-92) (Peerage of Scotland, cr 1707).


She was born on 15 November 1928 in Zanzibar as Susan Mary Jocelyn Semple, daughter of Dr John Mervyl Semple, of Gilgil, Kenya, by his wife Anne Gladys, nee Steen. She married firstly Michael Raleigh Gibbs (deceased) of Nakuru, Kenya, by whom she had one child; married 2ndly in Salisbury (South Rodesia) on 17 Apr, 1952, as his 2nd wife, James Angus Graham, styled Marquess of Graham (1907-1992), who succeeded his father as 7th Duke of Montrose on 20 Jan, 1954; in 1930-1950 he was married to Isobel Veronica Seller (1907-1990) by whom he had two children: Fiona Mary (b.1932) & James (b.1935) who succeeded his father as 8th Duke of Montrose.

The Duchess is survived by 5 children, one from the first marriage, and by two sons, Donald Alasdair (b.1956) & Calum Ian (b.1958), and two daughters, Cairistiona Anne (b.1955) & Lilias Catriona Maighearad (b.1960) from the second marriage, as well as numerous grandchildren.

Count Henri Guy de La Rochefoucauld died in March.

He was born on 28 May 1952, son of Count Artus Guy Marie Roland de La Rochefoucauld (1925-1980) & of his first wife, Marie Rose de Peytes de Montcabrier (1929-1974). He married in Couzeix on 12 July 1975 Anne Bouvet (b.1951) but hey divorced in 1982. He is survived by their three children: Helene Pascale (b.1976), Raphael (b.1978) & Paul-Marie (b.1979) as well as a son-in-law Alain Larrand (b.1968).

Elizabeth "Lisa" Lanett, nee Edle von Hortenau died this year.

She was born in 1921 as a daughter of Alfred Joseph Edler von Hortenau, who became Alfred Hort (1892-1957) {himself illegitimate son of Otto, Archduke of Austria (1865-1906) & Marie Schleinzer, wife of Julius, Edler von Hortenau} & his first wife, Charlotte Beer (1893-1966)].
In 1940 she married Juan Hevia del Puerto; in 1942 they had twin sons, Francisco and Jose, who died as babies/soon after being born (or were stillborn).
In 1945 she gave birth to another son, Antonio Mguel, who bears now the surname Bohler; two years later she & her husband divorced.
After divorce, she got married three times: to Hector Mendoza Orozco (from 1951 to 1956), to a man whose name is unknown and finally in 1973 to Joseph oldham Lanett who was 27 years younger than she and died two years after their wedding.
She leaves her son, two grandsons: Michael (b.1966) & Richard (b.1967) and three great-grandchildren: great-granddaughters Jessica (b.1988) & Samantha (b.2009) - daughters of Michael & his wife Deanna, nee Woolf, and a great-grandson Nicholas (b.2003) - son of Richard & Sylvie Galvan (b.1966).
In the last years Lisa became known by claiming that the biological father of her only surviving son was in fact President John Fitzgerald Kennedy.

Countess Anna Bertha von Almeida died this year.

She was born in 1925 as second of three children and older daughter of Count Carl von Almeida (1885-1975) & his wife, Princess Gabriele of Lobkowicz (1895-1969). She had a brother, Hieronimus (1923-2006) who was married to Ruth Lankes (1921-2013) and a sister, Maria Annunziata (1927-2009).
She never married. Apparently all three siblings were childless.
