Prince Michał Ksawery Sapieha-Kodeński (great-uncle of the Duchess of Brabant) died on 11 July.
He was born in Bobrek, Poland, on 1 May 1930 as penultimate of six surviving children of Prince Adam Zygmunt Sapieha-Kodeński (1982-1970) & his wife Teresa, nee Countess Sobańska (1891-1975).
Note: Paul Theroff's "An Online Gotha" site says that they had eight children in total (Gabriela died in 1924 aged two and Adam was born and died ( or was stillborn) on 23 November 1923, but www. sejm-wielki.pl doesn't mention them at all. It gives also the year of the birth of Stanisław Artur as 1937, making him their youngest child, whereas The Online Gotha says that he was born in 1927, being their sixth child.
On 17 April 1952 he married in Nya-Mitaba, Belgian Congo, Myriam de Decker de Brandeken (1928-1997) by whom he had two sons: Aleksander Leon Józef (b.1953) & Stefan Adam.
He is survived by them, their wives, five grandchildren, at least two great-grandchildren and his two sisters: Jadwiga Teresa Maria (b.1924) and Maria Ludwika (b.1931).
In 1982 he experienced a big tragedy; his first grandson Ladislas (son of Aleksander) died soon after his second birthday. As a young boy he also lost his sister Róża Maria, who was killed during the Warsaw Insurrection in 1944, aged 23. In 1964 he lost a baby niece, Anne de Hemptinne (daughter of Maria Ludwika & her husband Maximilien de Hemptinne). Later in life he lost two more siblings: Stanisław Artur, who died in 1956 aged 19 or 29, and 78 year-old sister Zofia, who was killed in a car crash together with her granddaughter Marie-Alix, aged 23, in 1997.
