That is his free choice but knowing the topic is an open nerve with his estranged royal family, I would have given it a second thought and not have worn it by his very himself. After all: the only road to reconciliation and rehabilitation goes via his mother first, and then her sisters.

This princely couple are really good value to the Romanian taxpayer: no state budget at all but offer up all the glamour, endearment, charm, enthusiasm and patriotism of any worthy “heirs” to a throne in “in people’s hearts”. Their PR machine is excellent and the prince has a fascinating backstory to enliven ongoing family relations not unlike the Harkles or “Cammiddletons”!

Nicholas was never "King Mihai's elected successor". His aunt Princess Margareta and his mother Princess Elena were always and ever before him in the line of succession.

Karina is younger than Nicholas. When she is head of the Royal House is she supposed to abdicate and reinstate her older brother, eventually removing her own offspring? That is an optimistic view. Once someone enjoys a position, it is very seldom that he/she voluntarily ceases it, certainly not when it comes with castles, domains and a VIP treatment.
I wrote "aunts" because a good rapport with Princess Margareta, Princess Sophia or Princess Maria can be instrumental to bring Princess Elena and her son back on speaking terms.

A few posts above a Romanian poster stated that the couple is invisible in Romania except in tabloids when it is about his extramarital child, speed driving, or when he had his wedding. It is us, dedicated followers, who see them in our royal bubbls on the Internet. That means that the claim " their PR Machine is excellent" is probably wishful thinking.

The grandson of the last king of Romania, Mihai I, Nicolae Medforth-Mills, spoke to Pro TV correspondent Vitalie Cojocari, in an exclusive interview.
“I always had a very good relationship with him. There was not necessarily a relationship between a grandson and a king. Grandfather and grandson, that was it."

“I was not a different child. It was just weird for me in college, and my colleagues saw me a little differently, because they understood where I came from, who my grandfather was and what he did not only for Romania, but also for Europe.
Some were very impressed, others felt that I was very rich and that I should not do anything, because I have people around me, staff, but they realized very quickly that I am a normal person, before anything else. ”

Nicolae and Alina-Maria were invited to celebrate the Armed Forces Day in Turda today.
