Nicolae and Alina-Maria have given a large interview to Life.ro, published today.
Alina and Nicolae al Romaniei in the first interview about the princely wedding
Alina Binder and Nicolae al Romaniei became husband and wife three months ago when the whole country participated spiritually at the first princely wedding that Romania housed after 87 years of Princess Ileana's wedding.
Nicolae tells that before he proposed to Alina-Maria, he asked the permission of her parents and brother, when Alina-Maria was shopping.
If we go back further in time, how did you two meet?
Alina de Roumanie: We should go back to 2012 or 2013 when I was working in Germany but had projects in Romania too. And somehow I heard that grandson of King Mihai came back to Romania and did nice things for the country, was involved in projects with young people and was very socially active. I knew the Royal House, the royal family, but I knew they did not have much to do with young people. At one point I heard that Prince organized a bicycle tour and decided to get involved too. I had a lot of ideas about how I could help young people, my mother is a teacher, so I always had a connection with education or youth projects. We met at that cycling tour and easily linked a lasting friendship.
What connects you?
Prince Nicolae: We have common passions: nature, adventure, sport.
Alina: And I feel that we are very similar in many aspects: the character of nature. When I got to know him better, I realized he was very good with me, that we had a lot of things in common. Then I felt I found my pair.
How was this magic moment where you realized that the other person is the right one?
Nicolae: I realized this when we went through Transfăgărăşan together with bicycles. I organized this route with some colleagues and friends and I invited Alina. On that day, I realized that if we continue as we started, it will be chosen. I found in her sophistication, femininity and modesty which you rarely meet today.
Alina: For me the route was a great challenge, because I hadn't cycled a lot then. I was exhausted, and he was there with me, encouraged me, was even support on that day, when I exceeded all my limits. And somehow, out of the 10-12 bunch of people, all very well trained, we've come first. And when I thought of what mobilized me, what I wanted to prove, I realized that with him I can do almost anything.
Nicolae: The future for us has always meant Romania. We started to come here more and more often. But we wanted to come as a married couple. So we married in England in a very intimate ceremony on October 6 last year, alongside the closest family members: Alina's parents and brother, my sister Karina, our friends and our future godparents: Alexandra Butculescu-Filitti and Constantin Filitti. They are extraordinary people who have joined us from the beginning and from whom we have many things to learn.
Nicolae talks a lot about king Mihai.
Have you ever thought of the idea that you could not have been there (the funeral)?
Nicolae: There was nothing to prevent me from being there. I would have participated in any case.
Alina: Being married, it was normal to go together. We are a family, he needs support, someone to be with him.
How did you handle the relationship with the Royal House?
Nicolae: Everything functioned as is customary. We announced that we will participate and we were there.
Is this relationship going to change?
Nicolae: If they want, yes. We stretched our hand several times, we are a family, above all. I even asked them to be godparents, but we didn't get any answer. That's all we can do. But without trying to insist, we want a relationship. We believe very much in the family and respect it.
The wedding was like a fairytale. It remained in people's memory as a princely wedding.
Nicolae: In addition, I have restored an important tradition for my family, Junii Brașov walked from the church to the Casino, as in 1931, when Princess Ileana married. I think this helped the story.
The wedding dance? Was this the most magical moment of the wedding?
Nicolae: It was, even though I don't like to dance at all. But on the wedding day it was magic. I was very happy. I've watched the video and I can't believe I'm there.
Alina: The song, I chose it easily, because it fit with the place, with us, everything: it was a waltz and I wouldn't have chosen otherwise.
The most awaited news after the wedding is undoubtedly related to an heir.
Alina: Of course we want a baby. But we can't and don't want to plan everything. It is a natural step, but everything happens in its own time. Now we are enjoying life together and what's happening to us.
Nicolae: One day may be loaded with emails and schedules, another with charity events or civic involvement. Other days include visits to schools or simply homework.
Alina: In England I had a job, went to the office, now we are here, take care of business we have together and dedicate a lot of time to civic actions we choose to get involved: children, environment, social campaigns. I think that is the only detail that makes the difference: we devote much more time to important events in culture, education and youth.
