The Vatican has confirmed that the Pope will make a three-day visit to Romania, in May. The Pope was invited by President Iohannis. We may expect to see Princess Margareta meeting the Pontiff as well. When Queen Anne died, by origin a Roman-Catholic, the King and the princesses requested Roman-Catholic rites at her Funeral. So there is an attachment to Roman-Catholicism, a minority denomination in a largely Orthodox country.

The style of Princess Margareta is more stately than that of most European monarchs. Those last two visits, one to a Gymnasium and the other from schoolchildren show a certain ceremonial, a respectful distance, which we do not see at all in for an example the Benelux or Scandinavian countries, where the monarch simply mingles with schoolkids. I like the distant Romanian style, I must say.

Indeed they are quite a busy Princely couple with visits/receptions and audiences.

It is amazing indeed. And at the same time it is great to see the Romanians do this. Imagine that Prince Jean d'Orléans was given a château, let us say Fontainebleau, and an office, and a chauffeur, and guards outside, and receives ambassadors, visits towns, attends army demonstration, addresses the Assemblée, gives medals to French olympians, travels with the royal train to a city, has a Christmas Address on national television, etc. Hard to believe, but this simply happens in Romania...

The French monarchy has been gone a hell of a lot longer than Romania's. I think there would be a massive outcry if one of the claimants to the throne was given Fontainbleu for official use for many reasons. Elisabeta Palace is much smaller and suitable for a De Facto monarchy.

I believe Duc's point was that Romania is indeed the exception and not the rule compared to the majority of former monarchies.

The Royal Palace in Bucharest is also in use by the royal couple for more formal ceremonies. Elisabeta Palace is their daily residence, with Savarsin and Peles as countryside alternatives.

Proof (for fellow posters claiming this is a fantasy) by pictures:

Princess Margareta was sporting a lovely brooch. Interesting to see all the folks in the dealing room devoutly standing up for the Princess. And the presentation in which the Deutsche Bank welcomes "the royal family of Romania".

Deutsche Bank is a giant and having their technological development centre in Bucharest is a major boost for the country. It shows that Princess Margareta is business-minded. She did visit Dacia (Groupe Renault) which is vast expanding since the French constructed state-of-the-art car manufacturing plants in Romania. And now this bank. A clever policy.

Deutsche Bank is not unknown for being accommodate to royals: when their NY-based functionary Ms Máxima Zorreguieta Cerruti was in a relationship with a certain blonde gentleman, Deutsche Bank arranged a transfer from New York to Brussels for their Latin-American specialist who had no any specific field of interest in Brussels-based banking...

:whistling:

It is nice to see the royal family so active and their blog with lots of pictures is an example for all monarchies. Compliments for Radu, whom started that blog.

I am impressed by the extensive reporting on the actvities of the princely couple. The pictures on the site of the royal family are -as always- fabulous and tell us the story as if we were there as well, at the Comité Paralympique, at the Académie française and at the Palais Mazarin. Wonderful! An example for all other royal websites.

The way the Royal House of Romania reports about their public engagements is a fine example for all other monarchies. Their reports, always with lots of pictures, read as if you were there as well. Very well done.
