Marlene, what an incredible experience you have shared with us. Your photos along with your detailed narrative really brought to life some of Romania's rich history. Not every day is one invited by HM Margarita, Custodian of the Crown and HRH Prince Radu of Romania for a weekend of celebrations. Thank you! I especially enjoyed your picture with Crown Prince Leka.

Press release from Mișcarea pentru Regat și Coroană (The Movement for the Kingdom and the Crown) about how its president Marilena Rotaru has been treated by Margareta.

At the 30th anniversary of the arrival of the princesses Margareta and Sofia in Romania, the Custodian of the Crown published on the website of the Royal Family the list of Romanians who were from the "first hour" close to King Mihai's Family.
Surprisingly, Mrs. Marilena Rotaru, present even the day after her arrival in Romania at the hearing with the two princesses, is not mentioned.
Comunicat al Consiliului Director al Mișcării pentru Regat și Coroană – Miscarea pentru Regat si Coroana
Translation

Mișcarea pentru Regat și Coroană (The Movement for the Kingdom and the Crown) warns in a press release sent to our editors that Princess Margareta (Custodian of the Crown) developed the habit to settle scores with monarchists who disagree with her viewpoints.
Cum se răzbună principesa Margareta pe monarhiștii care NU sunt de acord cu ea. Custodele Coroanei se războiește cu memoria jurnalistei Marilena Rotaru

Marilena Rotaru is close to Nicolae and supports him. She sat on the first row at Nicolae and Alina-Maria's wedding.

This is really not a surprise. With "friends" like Marilena Rotaru, the royal family needs not to look for enemies. It is essential to recognize poisonous adders and keep these far away. The "friendship" of Mr and Mrs Nicholas Medforth Mills with this lady is a major roadblock on the way to reconciliation with his mother Princess Elena and his aunts. As long as this lady's shade hangs over Nicholas, he can forget it.

The Royal Anthem, played at the Romanian Athenaeum on 18 January 2020, was the most beautiful gift offered to Her Majesty Margareta for her 30 years of work in Romania. A young generation of musicians sang the music of George Enescu, stirring to tears the public.

2 years ago Marilena Rotaru said that Princess Margarita was going to be the Social-Democrats candidate for the Romanian Presidency. Everybody annoyed, "betrayal" was the word mostly used by the monarchists. A few hours later the president of the party said "fake news" and that the subject had never been on the agenda.

3 or 4 years ago Marilena Rotaru's movement spread the news that Mr. Duda's brother was divorced and seeking for a marriage with Margarita's sister, Maria ( or Mia ). Monarchists were annoyed, as it was implied that the Duda clan was so money-thirsty that every available Duda male would marry any available daughter of the king only to grab the royal assets. 3 or 4 years since then and i'm still waiting for that weeding, but I suppose it is only fake news, again

Yes. And her nasty campaign against King Michael's proposed changes of the Royal House and the reform of the succession (which made his daughters successors indeed). But when King Michael later removed Nicholas Medforth-Mills from this new Royal House and the proposed line of succession, Marilena Rotaru started a vendetta against Princess Margareta, Radu and the other princesses.

But wait a minute... wasn't this Marilena against the proposed changes anyway (which suddenly saw her "friend" Nicholas becoming a prince and a successor?) This shows the Byzantine arch-intrigant nature of this poisonous double-tongued lady. Your two examples seamlessly fit in her campaign of hate. As long as Nicholas keeps lounging around folks like Marilena Rotaru and the commercial Liviu Popescu.... He can forget a reconciliation with Princess Elena and his royal aunts.

Duc_et_Pair, Marilena Rotaru had nothing against the decisions which were made by the king during the years. She does not agree with the 2015 removal because she believes it was not made by the king, or at least that the king was provided with fake info about Nicolae's behavior.

Her problem is that she used her status as a "well-known monarchist" for her own political endeavors, using her monarchist association in supporting ( a lot of her association members were candidates) a dubious far-right party and his leader, Marian Munteanu , in the 2016 elections. After the obvious failure - the party only got about 66000 votes, less than 1% - she seems to be in a race to rehabilitate a convicted war criminal, though a gifted writer, Vintila Horia.

Her beliefs are her beliefs, a necessary thaotology. The problem arise when using monarchist associations for politics, when you, though not explicitly, imply a certain party is the political expression of the monarchist cause. The king explicitly forbade this as he believed monarchy was/is above politics, not a part of it. I was annoyed when that party used a glimpse from an interview (produced and probably provided by Marilena) from 1990 or 1991 in which the king gave his support for the leader, Marian Munteanu. That was true, but that was in 1990 or 1991 and the support was given for the Golaniada and her leaders, including Marian Munteanu. Nothing to do with the support for a far-right political endeavour in 2016.

Could not agree more . Margareta is "custodian of the crown ", her primary duty is to see it pass on to the next generation i.e, Nicholas . No disrespect , but Princess Helen would be at best a stopgap on the way to the final hope of the royal family having any positive influence in Romania either politically or popularly . I think The Custodian and her inner circle could do worse than to act on the impartial opinion stated in this article .

I completely share your wish that the family can find a way to heal the wounds but this article is loaded to the brim with emotive language and highly selective content which lays the blame squarely in one place.

"She behaved in a most hawkish manner towards her nephew."
"Margarita continues her frivolous legal suit. "

"This cold behaviour from the household at Elisabeta Palace had been experienced by other members of the Romanian royal family as well."

So, cold, hawkish, frivolous...

Nicholas is, on the other hand, denied ... the opportunity to say goodbye, the victim of "this devastating event", his "hope rebuffed" whose response is "simple and heartfelt", full of sadness and incomprehension.

Not one mention is made of his one-night stand child, the long, drawn-out paternity wrangle, or his association with Rotariu and her agenda.

Quotes abound to support the black vs white portrayal above. Strangely, however, not even a mention (let alone an analysis) is made of the official statements explaining why family members were "unceremoniously" and "suddenly" "stripped" of their places in the succession. Nicholas' mother's public statement concerning his behaviour in Switzerland and his handling of the paternity issues is not quoted either.

Other sideswipes include first the allegation that "The Custodian of the Crown's staff in Bucharest "has not always been completely truthful." It would be fair to say not completely open, but there is a world of difference between the two.

An "impartial opinion"? I don't think so!

Having re-read the article in its entirety again , perhaps impartial was too strong a word , you are right in that it made no mention of the innocent child , certainly Nicholas did not behave with a great deal of maturity at the time . Doubtless to a man of such moral probity as King Michael , the news came as a bitter blow . He was nearing the end of a long life and viewed Nicholas as his daughter Margareta's logical successor . However time has passed , with the withdrawal of the witness statements on the incident in Austria it seems pointless to continue with the legal case . Nicholas ,and the child's mother have come to an agreement about their child , she is and will remain a private citizen . Whatever the wrongs ,and rights of the broken relationship between Nicholas , and his mother they are both adults ,need to address the situation privately. Only then can progress on the future of the monarchy happen .
No human is perfect , Nicholas made mistakes , will make mistakes, however he has demonstrated his continued commitment to Romania , and it's people regardless of his personal relationship with his family . IMO

Her Majesty Margaretawith Prince Radu received today Nissren Rubaian, UN Representative for Refugees in Romania. Mrs. Rubaian discussed with Her Majesty projects of the Romanian office of UNHCR that could benefit from the public support of the Custodian of the Crown.
