Princess Margareta was represented by her spouse, Radu.
It is interesting that the councillor to the president of Romania, Mr Andrei Muraru, was present as well. He wrote a book on the (enforced, or not?) abdication of King Michael when the Communists took over. See book.
Before this Mr Andrei Muraru became the presidential councillor he was Chief Executive of the Institute for the Investigation of Communist Crimes in Romania. Mr Lazăr Comănescu is the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania, and Mr Mihnea Constantinescu was Chef de Cabinet of various Prime Ministers before becoming a State Councillor. So quite a few representants of "deep state Romania" were attending this diner at Elisabeta Palace.

"enforced, or not?"...?! What else would you call it when a gun is pointed at ones head to sign a document?!

That is the story. Fabricated or not? Fake news is not something from 2018 only. So only good that there has been an investigation on what happened around the abdication.
Andrei Muraru actually proved that an abdication "at gunpoint" was a myth. In 1946 the Communists won the elections (without any doubt rigged) and since then King Michael was out-manoeuvred. The Communist government hoped that King Michael would understand the sign of times, go to the wedding of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip, and not come back. That was the "elegant solution". Even King George VI and the British Government tried to persuade the King not to return and so remain King in exile. (In return Romania would allow him to tranfer personal properties and wealth).
King Michael however refused and then the "gentlemanlike option" was thrown away. Now the Communists decided to show their fist: there is no place for a monarchy in their dreamed People's State. Now the King has stubbornly ignored the offered loophole, the Communists made the situation so difficult, that he had to abdicate. This time the King had to leave Romania, as poor as a church mouse.
There never was a gun pointed on the King. But there were threats by the Communists of an enforced "cleansing" of the state (which did happen anyway when the King left). That Andrei Muraru is in Elisabeta Palace shows he has told the honest version, accepted by the royal family.

Your story just shows what an upright man the King was. What you call a "gentleman/elegant solution" I would call treason against the romanian people!
Michael chose to return to face his enemies, no matter how bad things would turn out for him personally. A King is a monarch, not a manager or investment broker, you see?
By saying the gun story was a myth you claim King Michael deliberately lied repeatedly in front of a camera, right?!

Sophie is in Romania on a photographic mission.
Marie was likely in Bucharest.

Ah, that makes more sense!
Princess Marie Agla has apparently been suffering from ill health for the past couple of years, which is why she now rarely appears in public.

It is interesting that the receptions of the Corps Diplomatique are left to the consort.
Of course Princess Margareta has no official role in Romania and these visits are just out of politesse. Maybe that is why it is easier to request the consort to take care of these audiences.

Prince Radu receives the Red Cross volunteers from France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Bulgaria, Greece, Slovenia, Croatia and the Red Crescent of Turkey, together with their colleagues in Bucharest and Timisoara, at the Elisabeta Palace.
