There is no need to keep track and take census on who is able to visit and not. The King is undergoing intense treatment and is going through what must be a very hard time, and I hope and pray he gets both the rest and support he needs, without excessive and undue stress.

A source close to the Royal House has told Cancan that King Michael was diagnosed with cancer last year, which is why he did not have any public appearances in 2015; it was only recently that doctors discovered that the disease had metastasized.

His Majesty is being given painkillers and nutrients intravenously, he cannot walk without assistance, and, at times, he has to be put on oxygen.

The medical professionals do not think it likely that the King's life can continue in this way for more than a month.

If this is true why it has not been announced earlier?

Maybe it was thought the King could have been cured of the initial illness last year so he did not wish for an announcement to be made. Now that it seems his illness may not be curable, it is appropriate to announce the current situation.

The news are from four days ago, while the latest communiqué from the Royal House (issued two days ago) said Their Majesties' daughters were all going to travel to Switzerland on the next days. For all we know, Princess Maria and her sisters maybe be with her parents right now.

Certainly the 5 sisters and their descendants are really needed in Switzerland in this situation.

Queen Sofía of Spain is quite concerned about the declining health of her first cousin, King Michael.

This is extremely sad. Is there a way to send a sympathy card or something so that the King will actually receive it?

King Michael is a saint and all that he has done for freedom and well-being of others in the world is amazing. He should be celebrated--while he is living--as one of the true heroes of the 20th century.

In which religion/church is he a saint? I hope he is made very comfortable in his last days. A very sad ending to a very sad life. My prayers are with him and his family.

He is a saint, figuratively. What's so sad is how much better off Romania would have been if it had been able to keep him as King rather than have Communist dictators.

I think we have to expect the worst the next weeks (maybe even days) :/ I hope the government gives him the full state funeral he deserves (I hope I don't sound morbid).

Oh, this is sad news. King Michael has lived a long and eventful life. It would have been interesting to see what the situation in Romania would be like today if he had still reigned.

No, you don't sound morbid at all. Just accepting of the sad reality of His Majesty's health. :(

He truly has done so much to try and, not only help Romania, but the wider World as well. My wish is he is comfortable and surrounded by all he loves.

Princess Marie is now in Switzerland.

Margarita and Radu have returned to Romania.

Vizită în Elveția, 8 martie 2016 | Familia Regala a Romaniei / Royal Family of Romania

No real mention of the three middle daughters of King Michael.

_______________

Apparently the former Prince Nicholas is also with the King.

Queen Margrethe of Denmark has told about how, during the final days of her fathers life, she and her mother were busy in preparing for her succession. Although both was naturally devastated about losing a loved one they did what had to be done. Queen Ingrid - the daughter, granddaughter, daughter-in-law & wife of kings knew that duty always comes first, even in times of grief, and set the wheels in motion.

Do we really have to read these nasty, insidious questions at a time when all decent-minded posters are expressing concern and sympathy?
