If king Michael would have been allowed to return in Romania earlier(he could return only in 1997) it might had happened that the monarchy be restored-I'm not very sure but it could have happened. In 1990 he was only 69 years old and I'm sure that Romania would have benefited if there was a king in fron of the country.
Today the Royal family is pretty much ignored by the majority of the population...there was a certain uproar when the situation of the Peles Castle was discussed, I'm not sure if it's solved yet...
The family is doing better financially, I guess, because they received a lot of land and forests...but they have to renovate and upkeep Savarsin Castle and there are a lot of expenses for sure...

I'm not sure what order she is wearing, it might be the Order of the Crown...
Recently king Michael stated that he would like to reestablish the Order of Carol I. It will be a personal gift of the monarch given to those who supported the Royal Family in their efforts to fight for a democratic and free Romania.
About the jewels...
Princess Anne was wearing Queen Helen's Greek key tiara(purchased by Queen Marie from her sister) that she wore on her wedding day, too.
The diamond necklace is the coronation necklace of q Marie from Cartier. The sapphire pendant was already sold at the time of the wedding.
In the 50's or 60's the couple had a Catholic ceremony in Monaco, Pr.Rainier and Pr. Grace were good friends of them, where pr.Anne's mother was there, too.

The light blue sash with gold edges is from the Order of Carol I. I presume that is order for which you are referring.

On the 10th of June TM King Mihai and Queen Ana will celebrate their diamond wedding. They were married at Tatoi palace at King michaels uncle King Paul of Greece.
There will be a dinner at Peles Castle on 11th June with representatives from many royal houses. My informations are from Prince Radu's blog.
On the 10 of June 1948 Their majesties were married at Tatoi palace in Athens at King Michaels uncle, King Paul of Greece.
Despite the unfavourable circumstances: exile, financial problems, etc., the couple managed to stay together for 60 years, which is remarkable.
My best wishes to Their Majesties!

Today, King Mihai has finally returned home after 60 years to Peles Castle.
He was joined by his family and hundreds of tourists and locals, some of whom had met the king before 1947.
Peles Castle was built at the end of the 19th century by King Carol I from private funds(he had sold some properties in Germany) and was inherited by King Ferdinand and then King Michael. The communist confiscated it in 1947 and made a museum out of it. King Michael will preserve the castle as a museum and will use the other smaller castle, Pelisor that is situated on the estate, too. Actually he was born at Pelisor.
The king held a short speech at the balcony of the castle and after that walked to Pelisor castle.
On the 10th of June there will be a concert in Bucharest at the Atheneu, celebrating the diamond wedding of the couple, followed by a state dinner. Among the guests are: Queen Sophia, Ex-King Simeon, Prince Alexander of Serbia, Archduke Otto, Archduke Lorenz, Ex-King Constantin.

Queen Sofia of Spain will attend the celebration.
Queen Sofia´s father, King Paul of Greece, was brother of Helen of Romania.
In this article says that there will be a Concert and a reception before the Dinner.

Article about role of Romanian Royal Family
Versoix is in Switzerland, but King Michael and Queen Anne now live in another town called Aubonne.
There is an interesting analysis about the Royal Family of Romania and its role in today's Romania, written by retired Romanian army general Cornel Codita, a military and policy analyst and analyst of international studies based in Bucharest. The article "The ideal world and the constitutional monarchy" was published in the Romanian english language daily "Nine O'Clock", in issue 4232 page 4 at 2008-07-25

The rightful Head of State of the KINGDOM of Romania is HRH King Michael I. First, there is controversy whether His Majesty did indeed abdicate and second, the supposed abdication was under blackmail and duress. The Communists threaten to murder tens of thousands of civilians unless he did so. And when His Majesty went abroad to seek support for Romania against communism, the commies claimed he abdicated.
Romania is NOT a republic and never has been. All such claims are illegal according to international and Romanian law.

I agree with you 100%. HRH King Michael I, should've been reinstated immediately after the communism ended.
I hope it will... if so, then I return home tomorrow.
I always loved the King and in my heart he is the head and the leader of my county.

King Michael held a christmas speech on saturday, that was broadcasted on Romanian national television:
Televiziunea Română
From royalblog.nl:
Quote:
Romanian King Mihai (Michael) continued a decades old tradition Saturday by giving a brief Christmas message to the nation. ,,At Christmas and at New Year, while in the country or in exile, I have addressed you, your parents or your grandparents dozens of times", the 88-year old non reigning monarch said in his telivised message.
