:previous: Aw, and Oscar's serious little face makes the photos even cuter ?

Victoria and Estelle went to see drag queen Christer Lindarw and After Dark at Oscarsteatern. Today was their last performance of their farewell show.
Christer Lindarw at his Instagram:
"So glad that H.R.H. Crown Princess Victoria and Little Sweet Estelle had time to see the last matinee today. And Princess Estelle was very fond of the feather boa she received from me".

We all remember how Christer Lindarw performed as queen Silvia on Victoria's birthday concert in the summer.

Yes, she does.
Here is another photo of Victoria and Estelle with Christer Lindarw and After Dark.
"Last matinee at Oscarsteatern. What a joy that Crown Princess Victoria and super cute princess Estelle came and greeted us behind the scene. What memories this production has created".
https://www.instagram.com/p/BcxpxwCBR6d/?tagged=oscarsteatern

Christer Lindarw put to his Instagram a photo of the flower bouquet which he got from Victoria and Estelle:
"The beautiful bouquet I received from Crown Princess Victoria and little Princess Estelle. And the flower shop has misspelled ... Hm"
https://www.instagram.com/p/BczJ19thbzJ/?taken-by=christerlindarw

What a mistake from the flower shop ... to write "Viktoria".

Expressen writes about Victoria and Estelle attending at After Dark show. Margareta Thorgren said to Expressen:
- They were there privately, so the court doesn't comment it.
Sofia and princess Christina and Tord Magnuson saw the show some weeks ago. Tord Magnuson said then to Expressen:
- Wonderful. Incredible. It was terriric, it could not be better. We saw it and went home after that, it was really terrific.

I doubt that. Christer Lindarw tells at his book that queen Silvia had told him that Victoria loved to watch the Shows of Christer and After Dark from video when she was a child. Christer has performed as queen Silvia a lot, he started to do it already at the late 1970s. Christer performed on Victoria's 40th birthday concert and the royal family loved it. This show was his last big show with After Dark (he is 64 years old), so it was great that Victoria and Estelle went to see the show and met Christer and gave him flowers.
The After Dark Show was at Oscarsteatern. The director of Oscarsteatern, Vicky von der Lancken (at the group photo on the left of Christer Lindarw) is a friend of king Carl Gustaf and queen Silvia.

Expressen tells that Victoria, Daniel and the children fly tomorrow to Italy for a holiday. Margareta Thorgren said that they are having a private holiday at Christmas and New Year like many of us. Thorgren said also that the members of the royal family are back at work on 8th January.
https://www.expressen.se/nyheter/kungligt/kungens-ovantade-nyar-firar-i-japan/

Victoria and Daniel have their first public work event of 2018 on 11th January according to the calendar.

It seems that Victoria and Oscar were on Tuesday in Bollnäs.
Put to Twitter yesterday:
"It is in Bollnäs it happens: ran into the crown princess and little prince in the sports store yesterday. Backed up tightly in the snow. Properly. Lucky to have strong relatives."

The Westlings' summer house and Victoria's and Daniel's other summer house is in Acktjära in Bollnäs.

QX Magazine writes in its newest issue, that the QX Gay Gala celebrates it's 20th anniversary in 2018. They reminisce the most important things at the Galas during the years.

"I would like to have some information about the Gay Gala on 4th February. Would you have time to come here to the Royal Palace to a short meeting?" It was 20th November when the e-mail came. QX had again sent a letter to the court, asking if crown princess Victoria could deliver a prize at the Gala. I put a fine shirt on when I visited the Palace a couple of weeks later. I told about the gala and the setup and a couple of weeks later I got the information that Victoria would deliver a prize. But it should be kept as a secret. We wanted that and they wanted that. That the suprise would be as big as possible. Victoria arrived with her entourage about an hour before she should deliver the prize and waited patiently in the dark behind the scenes so that no one would see her. She was very nice and let some of us who worked with the gala take photos with her.
Then it was the time. The host of the evening Jenny Strömsted presented Victoria and at first the crowd celebrated cautiously: "Did she say Victoria?" "Does she really mean that?" "It has to be Christer Lindarw". Then everybody saw, it was her. Victoria was there. The cheers got louder and continued and would never end. Now we would really show how big this was, how welcomed she was, how we had waited and longed. Victoria saw shocked with the reception and we couldn't get the people to stop to applaud. Then Victoria held one of the best prize-giving speeches at the gala history. It was so elegant, personal and she was significantly taken about the situation.
The day after Victoria was at all headlines and the news that a royal delivered a prize to the Gay of the Year at a Gay Gala spread all over the world. Victoria's participation at the Gay Gala is definitely the biggest thing what has happened during these 20 years.

Really lovely story :flowers: I remember seeing Victoria present that, when it was in the news. Its great to see royals like Victoria involved in such. It obviously meant a lot to the organization, as well as those in attendance.

I hope the family enjoys their vacation in Italy. ?

Nice to hear that the family are on holiday in Italy, I hope they're having a lovely holiday.

Aftonbladet asked Inizio to make a survey about how the Swedes want to spend their New Year's Eve. 1043 people, 16 years or older, were interviewed on 20-21 December.

The Swedes want to give Crown Princess Victoria the task of reading "Nyårsklockan" (Tennyson's poem "Ring out wild bells" in swedish) from Sollidenscenen on Skansen, according to a new survey.
Carl Jan Granqvist, a restaurateur, food and wine connoisseur and television personality understands this well:
- I think it would be very delightful. She symbolizes our country in a magnificent way and is respected by most, he says.

Like Mother like daughter.

More and more often, Crown Princess Victoria uses Mother Queen's clothes.
In addition to a nice retro feeling, it is also a way for Victoria to convey thoughts about sustainability.
Before Victoria wore the yellow dress, it had only been viewed during a state visit in the former Soviet Union in 1978. Queen Silvia wore it with a hat - which Victoria had left home. The one who thinks royal clothes are used only once and then are thrown away is completely wrong. On the contrary - the royal clothes are preserved for a long time in the dressing room of the Palace and preserved for generations.
Partly for cultural purposes, to be displayed in museums in the future, partly because they actually want the clothes to live for a long time to come.
- There is a thought of sustainabiity in what goes through all the crown princess does. It permeates what she chooses to participate in, but also the choice of clothes. The entire royal family is very committed to sustainability issues, said Margareta Thorgren.
Media's eyes are often directed towards the royals' clothes. Throughout the years, Expressen has written a lot about the royal clothes, and Svensk Damtidning has fashion blog "Kungliga modebloggen", on royal fashion. The royals have understood this and by letting the clothes speak, it is a great way for the royal family to put the focus on issues such as environment and sustainability.
- That Victoria chooses to wear Silvia's clothes sends a signal that the reuse of clothes is hot and right. Victoria is happy to raise these questions and has always shown her personal interest by using, for example, a piece of clothing many times. Most often, it takes place in official contexts - when for many it may be extra important to showcase something new, but Victoria ignores that, says Magda Omerspahic, Expressen's fashion expert.
There are several examples of when this has worked efficiently. When Victoria visited Japan in 2017, it was to deepen her knowledge of fisheries and marine issues - one of the UN's sustainable development goals. On the first full day, she chose to wear a dress the queen had worn 37 years earlier. Several media in Sweden wrote about the dress and the Swedish people could inevitably see that sustainability is an issue that engages the Crown Princess.
- Victoria really fits in Silvia's old clothes, which you can say are extremely well-preserved and work fine even today. Trends come and go, but classic dresses work for many years. She carries all this very well, says Magda Omerspahic.

Interesting how the court sees wearing a dress a few times over several decades is seen as a sustainability issues, while most people would wear a dress many more times within a few weeks, months or years.

Still, I like to see royals wearing the same outfit multiple times and understand that there are some limitations because of their position but in the end even that is a choice (I assume the royal men wear the same suit quite often). If they would start wearing clothes like most people (which is significantly reduce the number of different outfits) that would be far better for the environment.

Expressen wrote first that Carl Philip acts as the Head of State when the king and queen were in Japan and Victoria and family were in Italy.
Then Expressen corrected their article
Crown Princess Victoria takes the role as Head of State
Crown Princess Victoria with family is in Italy - but she is still the regent.
The whole royal family has a holiday until January 8. The royal couple is in Japan. Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel are with Estelle and Oscar in Italy.
But despite the visit to abroad in Europe, the Crown Princess is still the one who is the regent.
When traveling in Europe, the King or the Crown Princess is expected to act as Head of State if something unforeseen would occur.
Expressen wrote earlier that Prince Carl Philip would be the regent when both the King and the Crown Princess are abroad. But that is not true.
- It is the Crown Princess who is acting as regent during the King's private visit outside Europe, said Ulrika Näsholm, information officer at the court.

- Only the king goes to Sälen.
When the crown princess became sick?
- I have no information about that, says Näsholm.

Has she needed medical treatment?

Crown Princess Victoria has had severe cold and was forced to cancel several commitments.
Now also Prince Daniel has fallen ill and cancels his attendance at the Sports Gala this evening.
Crown Princess Victoria announced during the weekend that she will not take part in the Society and Defence National Conference in Sälen.
The reason: A powerful cold.
Now Expressen can tell that the cold has been contaminated to the entire family at Haga Palace. During the day it was clear that Prince Daniel suffered from the same powerful cold. He has therefore cancelled his attendance at the Sports Gala, which takes place on Monday evening.
- That's right. The Crown Princess family has had cold and, in respect of all athletes, the prince has chosen not to attend at today's gala. It's because he has a bad cold, said Margareta Thorgren.
Are Estelle and Oscar also sick?
- There is nothing we comment on. But the Crown Princess cancelled her attendance at Society and Defence National Conference because of the bad cold, and now, Prince Daniel also does. It is of respect for the participants.
It is important for Victoria and Daniel to recover. They have intense weeks ahead. On Wednesday, Iceland's president comes to Sweden for a state visit and Victoria and Daniel will attend, for example, a gala dinner at the Palace.
However, it is uncertain, if the Crown princess couple can take part in the state visit.
- The plan is made so, but it is still necessary to see how it is on Wednesday, said Margareta Thorgren.
Victoria har smittat Daniel –*tvingas ställa in _ Sport _ Expressen

Prince Daniel should have gone to the Sports Gala together with Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia.
Prince Daniel would also have shared Generation Pep's "Årets Peppare" prize, but he will not do it.
- It is true that he is ill, said sports gala's information manager Sandra Miller Kinge.
How do you solve the delivery of the prize?
- We have not gone out with who deliver the prizes. But here's a whole jury of Årets Peppare here, but I actually do not know how they solve it. We were informed that he is ill just now.
The director of the press department, Margareta Thorgren also confirms that Prince Daniel is ill.
- He has cold, a severe cold. The Crown Princess was scheduled to attend "Society and Defence" with the king, but she also had to cancel. It is no more serious than that, but Prince Daniel obviously has respect for the athletes, that they have to keep themselves healthy and then he chose to stay at home, Thorgren said.

That explains everything. I have missed potential articles and/or announcements of them taking ill. If I recall correctly both Victoria and Daniel should have attended the MFA-infor for the state visit last week, and also Victoria now missing the event in Sälen.

Yes, but Daniel visited Stiga Sports after that and looked healthy then.
This is such a pity, I was looking forward to hear Daniel's speech at the delivery of Årets Peppare, he helds always so good speeches.

Understandable though considering the state visit this week and the Olympics coming up for many of the athletes.

Yes, of course Daniel made the right choice to stay at home. We will see if he can go through tomorrow's visit to Daniel Wellington.

Svensk Damtidning had last week an article
"Ín Her Majesty's royal shadow"
The princes who walk two steps behind their wife
The article told about prince Philip and prince Henrik. And in the end of it was also about Daniel.
Someone who doesn't seem to worry at all about that other members of the family are before him in rank is our own Prince Daniel. He has found his role and makes the most of his prince title. His task is to support and assist Crown Princess Victoria in her task and he has succeeded in that. Publicly loved Prince Daniel is popular in the kingdom. He is an engaged father to the couple's two cute children and the love to the Crown Princess is genuine, something which the Swedes like to see. Prince Daniel is a decent guy with a strong family feeling. To go two steps behind Victoria doesn't bother him. But he was also not born with enriched titles, such as Prince Philip and Prince Henrik.

Does he walk two steps behind CP Victoria ? I thought the Swedes were more "modern" than that !

Having said that, I did hear Daniel say in a TV inteview that his job was "to support the CP's work", so I think he's pretty resigned to that role. Don't get me wrong (I'm not implying he's a social climber or that his love for Victoria is not genuine), but being lower in rank to his wife is a small price to pay compared to the perks of being a prince and having a life he could never have dreamed of if he had not met Victoria by chance.

I suppose it is (or was) much harder for Philip or Henrik, because of their upbringing and aspirations in life.

Even for these two, being an impoverished Greek prince not at all close to the throne or a French low aristocrat don't really compare to being the Sovereign's spouse. Hiwever, times were different and especially Philip would have moved in the same circles albeit with lower standing and less (informal) influence. Prince Henrik would have been at the top in his small world and now became second in a whole country and lamented that position?!?!

I do find it peculiar that Prince Daniel is obliged to not merely walk two steps behind his wife, but to walk two steps behind his siblings-in-law (when his wife is not escorting him), as was noted in this thread:
http://www.theroyalforums.com/forums/f22/opening-of-parliament-2016-a-41244.html#post1923577
I cannot remember other consorts of crown princes or sovereigns in Europe walking two steps behind the siblings of their spouses as a matter of form.
