Now when Guillaume is engaged, I have a feeling that Carl-Philip can be next! (soon after his niece's baptism) They have been together for more or less two years, just like Guillaume and Stephanie (and Carl-Philip is two years older than Guillaume).
And some weeks or months later, but yeat this year, his sister will do the same thing!
What do you think?

It will be interesting to see how will evaluate the relationships of both siblings, I do mean Carl-Phillip& Sophia and Madeleine&Chris. In both cases there are some moments: in case of Carl-Phillip many people do criticize and remember Sophia's past, in Madeleine's case maybe they prefer to wait more as her previous engagement broke up unhappily.

Many thanks to Marengo for opening up another thread
IMO the engagement of C-P and Sofia differs immensely from the engagement of Guillaume and Stephanie, and not just because Guillaume is heir. Besides the fact that Stephanie was kept out of the limelight until today's announcement, there was never going to be any objection to her like there is about Sofia.
The issue of Sofia (and C-P)'s title after marriage is major. Sweden is a liberal country and yet Sofia's past has been received similarly if she was dating a royal in more conservative Britain or Spain. That speaks volumes IMHO. I don't have one Swedish friend, who are all in favour of the monarchy, who think she is worthy of being a princess.
I have no problem with him marrying her, because I believe everyone should marry whoever they love regardless, but he shouldn't be able to keep his title and thus represent Sweden.
There may well be an engagement announcement come June or later this year, but I hope it is between Mr. Carl-Philip Bernadotte and Miss Sofia Hellqvist

Perhaps we might see a scenario like that which happened in Luxembourg when Prince Louis married Tessy Antony. ?
He retained his style and title but gave up his succession rights. Tessy got no style or title.
Granted, that situation was changed a few years years later when the Grand Duke Henri gave her the title of Princess of Luxembourg with the style, Her Royal Highness.

Unless the future spouse of Carl Philip gets the title of princess of Sweden and/or Duchess of Värmland at the time of the wedding, there is no possibility for her to get a title later on as the king of Sweden have no legal rights to give a title to a commoner. That is why Swedish royal princes who lost their titles when they married commoners got their title Count of Wisborg from Belgium or Luxembourg.

I personally think that given her past, the title should be morganatic, like a countess or baroness, nothing at or above the title of Duchess. There HAVE to be limits and it should be that or CP step down. Sooner or later her photos will be all over the place and I am sure that it will create a lot of ugliness.

Although I like the good old fashioned morganatic marriage, I do think that the king refusing permission for a marriage is 1) unlikely and 2) hypocrite. I think it will not be a popular move at all, esp. since it would be the king who denies her a title, a king who recently was involved in a sex scandal. A holier-than-thou attitude for Sofia would surely be considered as double standards. And considering the press campaign of Sofia & friends in portraying her as a saint, I am sure that the press will have a field day in painting her as an innocent victim of a bitter sexist king. The bnest we can hope for is the problem to go away & their relationship to end before a marriage.

The king of Sweden have no constitutional rights to ennoble a commoner, the only title a royal spouse can get is prince/princess and/or duke/duchess. Nor does the possibility of a morganatic marriage exist in Sweden.
There is a possibility that a future spouse of Carl Philip will not get the title of princess of Sweden and only become duchess of Värmland, not because of her past but because of the fact that when Madeleine got engaged to Jonas Bergström it was announced that his future title would be Mr. Jonas Bergström, duke of Hälsingland and Gästrikland. To give the spouse of Carl Philip the title princess of Sweden while not give the spouse of Madeleine the title of prince of Sweden would be considered as sexist, as both Carl Philip and Madeleine have equal rights when it comes to the throne and their spouses should not be treated differently just because one of them is male and the other female.

I think that nor Prince Carl Phillip's wife, nor Princess Madeleine's husband will get prince/princess title. They would probably be just titled Duke/Duchess

The website of photographer Lennart M. Sjöberg, where the photos of 16-year old Sofia posing in Thailand, were, has been vanished, it has a different host now.

That's interesting. Are we dealing with a possible "clean up" before a certain announcement?

I understand she has a sister ---- is her sister married with a family? Also is there an option for the couple to live in America like his sister seems to have done?

Sofia has two sisters: Lina, who is two years older than Sofia, and Sara, who is three years younger than Sofia. There hasn't meen any news at the press that either of them are married. Lina is working at Project Playground and was with Sofia in Finland, when Sofia received a big donation for PP.
This week's SvenskDamtidning writes, that according to "their source at the court", the king and the queen are so happy because their son has found "such a lovely girl". According to the same source Sofia's engagement and work in PP has adjusted her past in the eyes of the queen. But the most of all, it warms Silvia's heart, to see her son so happy.
SvenskDam continues:
Sofia is surely regretting her past, she can't do much to it now, although she has tried to get the photos away from the internet.
"Look ahead" is Silvia's advice. But Sofia's leap into the royal family could probably still be followed by debate. The route to the altar will not be unobstructed.

Thanks for clarifying, LadyFinn!
How reliable is SvenskDamtidning? If even part of what was written there is true, then we can expect three major events in upcoming months:
- Princess Estelle's christening
- Carl Philip and Sofia's engagement
- The ensuing debate on suitability and other issues

Some years ago SvenskDamtidning was more reliable than now, now it is close to any gossip magazine. When Madeleine came to Sweden to meet Estelle, SvenskDamtidning wrote about Madeleine leaving hurrily back to the States, even though she stayed in Sweden at least two weeks after that. I don't rely on their "sources". We shall see, but on the other hand, I wouldn't be surprised of an engagement/engagements on the royal family.

I agree with LadyFinn - 'Svensk Dam Tidning' has deteriorated badly over the past decade, to the point where you can't take any of their 'information' and 'sources' seriously anymore... which several blunders over the past few years like the one mentioned by LadyFinn have proven.
