This was a ranking generated by the staff of Expressen in honor of International Women's Day. It does not say how many people Expressen polled to get their rankings. The poll Lady Finn presented showed an outreach.

it is a closed list, so the proposed names, so limited and thenmixed media personalities, entertainment and finally the royals. And with this question :

Who, of the following Swedish female media profiles do you think is the biggest role model for you personally?"

For me, a royal, not part of the media, she can not speak freely about everything and not have the same exposure, so I personally do not see anything in there that we can emerge.

Swedish royal divorce

This odd article came out in Bunte detailing "surprises" in the pre-nuptial contracts of the Crown Princess Couple, the Prince Couple and the Princess Couple.

Victoria, Madeleine & Carl Philip : Überraschende Geheimnisse aus ihren Eheverträgen | BUNTE.de

It doesn't say what prompted the article, and this has been addressed in another paper. Basically each person in the marriage keep what he/she brought in before they said I do, but what gets split in each marriage is odd:

Victoria & Daniel - the Haga household is split between them as well as things they bought together during their marriage. (How do you divide a household?) Does their beach house near Solliden get divided?

Madeleine & Chris - she keeps her investments; he keeps his. Neither gets half of the other.

Carl Philip & Sofia - all each generate in the marriage belong to the individual upon divorce; they split "everday objects" (china & kitchen equipment). So all profits from Carl Philip's businesses earned during the marriage Sofia can't get half. She gets the toaster; he gets the blender. (Frankly I think what Sofia got was hosed in this pre-nup.)

Bunte doesn't address custody of royal children. The trickiest I believe would be for Madeleine. Because they live in London she would have to work out a fair arrangement with Chris and maintain Leonore's and Nicolas's succession rights.

Bunte doesn't address if Sofia and Daniel would keep their titles and the Bernadotte surname if their marriages end.

The royal court has published it's Annual Report 2015, it has been signed in February and put now to the website.
https://www.kungahuset.se/download/.../1462786124693/Verksamhetsberattelsen2015.pdf

The report tells the king and queen hosted a total of 5000 guests at the events at the Royal Palace and at outgoing state visit. The Crown Princess Couple conducted official representation at Haga Palace and the Royal Palace with over 200 invited guests during the year.

The media highlights from the Annual Report, that the Court Administration reports a loss of SEK 1.2 million for last year, according to the annual report for 2015 and the loss is linked to Carl Philip and Sofia's wedding. The year before the Court Administration reported a surplus of SEK 2.1 million.
Hovet går back över en miljon – efter prinsbröllopet – Metro

Expressen's Dina Pengar has an article about the costs of the royal weddings 2010-2015.
Victoria and Daniel
The Crown Princess couple's wedding cost SEK 17 million. 10 million taxpayers had to pay for, the rest was paid from the private pocket.
- The Crown Princess's wedding was the most expensive of course, says the Treasurer of the court Jan Lindman.
Wedding festivities lasted three days with all European royal houses currently. Dinner and party at Drottningholm, and the great wedding banquet at the Royal Palace.
Madeleine and Chris
The wedding cost 11 million. 7,5 million of the sum was paid with private money.
Madeleine and Chris didn't want the wedding banquet inside the Palace, but placed the festivities with dancing into a giant party tent out on the Drottningholm Palace. After the wedding in the Royal Chapel the couple and guests travelled with the chartered ship from Stockholm to Drottningholm.
- The party was at Drottningholm. It makes more costs. The costly part was paid privately, said Lindman.
Carl Philip and Sofia
The wedding cost 7,4 million, of which 3,8 million was paid with private money. The remaining 3,6 million was paid by the taxpayers' money.
The ceremony was held at the Royal Chapel with dinner and night party inside the Royal Palace.
The King's 70-year celebration charged the royal budget, with additional costs. Exactly how much is not known. Two royal christenings with some extra costs are also on the way.
- You can't compare baptism to a wedding. The baptisms are significantly cheaper, says Lindman.

The cost of marrying royal: Sweden's royal weddings

SvenskDam put out this article about the cost of marrying off Carl Gustaf's children:

Så mycket kostade kungabarnens bröllop | Svensk Damtidning

I knew Victoria and Daniel had a lot going on for their wedding festivities (pre-dinner, pre-wedding concert, royal barge, military flyover, troubadours at their reception), 20 million is steep, even with the royal house paying in part. Madeleine and Carl Phillip's weddings didn't crack the 10 million mark, but the Prince Couple's wedding taking a loss can't be comforting for the royal bookkeepers.

I'm curious to see how the public feels about this. Will taxpayers overall believe this is too much for basically a personal event put on a grand, public scale? Will republicans, elected and non elected, feel this is another argument for abolishing the monarchy? Oscar's christening is next week: then in June, Silvia's 40th anniversary as queen; July, Victoria Day; August, or some day in the summer, Alexander's christening. Will there be efforts by the palace to scale things back a bit? (It may be too late with Oscar's baptism.) Or will the argument will be such events boosts national pride (and the local economy)?

One would hope that an event such as Prince Oscar's and Prince Alexander's christenings would boost national pride. Not every nation is a monarchy.

I have already earlier posted an article about the costs of the weddings here:
http://www.theroyalforums.com/forum...-part-1-april-2015-a-38417-6.html#post1888228

The sums are different there. And I don't find the cost of Victoria's wedding big at all. There was a dinner for 200 guests at the Drottningholm Palace on 17th June and the wedding celebrations on 19th June. Plus the security and transport of the guests also to the City of Stockholm's lunch at the Sturehof Castle, to government's dinner and parliament's gala concert on 18th June. There was over 1100 guests at the church and 558 guests at the wedding dinner.
At Madeleine's wedding there was about 500 guests at the church and 400 at the dinner. At Carl Philip's wedding there was about 550 guests at the church and 370 at the wedding dinner.
The court rented 85 Volvos for Victoria's and Daniel's wedding to transport the guests. 60 Volvos for Madeleine's wedding and 35 Volvos for Carl Philip's wedding.
At Victoria's wedding the cortege was 6,8 km long, at Madeleine's 2 km and Carl Philip's 3,5 km. At Victoria's wedding 20 military bands were performing at the cortege route. At Madeleine's three military bands and Carl Philip's five.
At Victoria's wedding there were 1960 accredited journalists, at Madeleine's 450 and Carl Philip's 250.

As for the costs of the future events, the treasurer of the court Jan Lindman has said that the baptisms are a lot cheaper than weddings. So far there is no info about how the 40th wedding anniversary of the king and queen and queen Silvia 40 years as a queen is celebrated. Alexander's baptism is cheaper and smaller than Oscar's. Victoria's birthday doesn't make costs except extra security - people come to greet Victoria at the Solliden Park and people pay their tickets to Victoriadagen concert. There aren't any guests invited by the court at the "normal" birthdays. We will see how it is next year on Victoria's 40th birthday.

@Lady Finn - I'm surprised at the discrepancy of the figures in the two articles. Which one is more accurate? And CP's wedding cost the cheapest? Well, Victoria's reception look like a grand ball; Madeleine had a tented reception, CP had a DJ. Wedding costs usually go to food, drink and entertainment.

Obviously Sofia's coat of arms isn't ready yet. Svensk Damtidning has an article about prince Oscar's coat of arms, and it says that now Oscar's coat of arms is ready and Alexander's and Sofia's are still on the way. The king gives his acceptance to the coat of arms before it is published. The article tells also about Leonore's and Estelle's coat of arms and that they are oval to show that it is woman's coat of arms. At the article Henrik Klackenberg, the chief heraldist at the National Archives, tells that because Daniel and Sofia are not from Bernadotte dynasty, totally new inescutcheons have/had to be created to the coat of arms. Prince Daniel was very dedicated in planning of his coat of arms and it has a connection to coat of arms of Ockelbo Municipality.
- We chose some elements from Ockelbo's coat of arms to create the inescutcheon at prince Daniel's coat of arms, says Klackenberg and continues that it might be so also at princess Sofia's coat of arms.
- The Royal family is committed and we show our suggestions to them and they give their comments.

SvD Näringsliv had an article about the apanage and costs of the royal family last week.

Two married into the royal family, five little princes and princesses. From 2010, the royal family has doubled. How many royals the government shall support - time will tell. The government decides how much money the king gets. Since 2009, the government funding has increased by 23 %, or 25 million SEK. This year, the court received a total of SEK 135.4 million, compared with SEK 127.5 million the year before.
There are no plans to ask for more money because the family grows and and there are increased costs for things like strollers, diapers and baby clothes, according to the Keeper of the Privy Purse and treasurer of the court, Jan Lindman.
All royals who are part of the succession get now part of the apanage. How the apanage is distributed is not strictly regulated by any law. It's the king who decides.
- Historically, it is up to the king (head of state) to decide freely. It dates back to the 1809 form of government, says Lena Westin, Senior Adviser at the Department of Public Administration at the Ministry of Finance.
In Denmark, the political voices have raised the issue of who should be entitled to apanage. There is no similar debate in Sweden.
Lindman says that one can't answer today who will get the apanage in the future. Strict regulations are missing, and he says it will be a matter for the future.
The King's sisters get no apanage. Lindman guesses it has to do with that there was no question that of any of them would take up the throne.
How long Princess Madeleine and Prince Carl Philip will receive part of the apanage, time will tell.
- It can't be said with certainty that they will have it forever. It is usually said that this should be for the Head of state and his or her family. It is not for the head of state and his or her relatives, says Lindman.
Members of the royal family also have private fortunes and companies. Aftonbladet wrote some time ago that Princess Sofia has started a business.
Those who receive apanage have also the right to have some other income, for example from part ownership in certain companies.
- There are no formal obstacles. It is a matter of convenience which type of income you have. A member of the royal family who might become head of state must always uphold its neutrality. This is also why it is so important that the royal family's expenses are financed by the state, Lindman says.

Another article in SvD Näringsliv "What is apanage?"
The royal apanage has been around for over 200 years. If the court wants more money, they ask the government - and the royals may not have ordinary jobs with salaries.
Who get apanage today?
All that are part of the succession get part of the apanage. Besides the king and queen, the crown princess with family, Prince Carl Philip with family and Princess Madeleine with family, according to Jan Lindman.
Who will get the apanage in the future?
Crown Princess Victoria will receive apanage - but there is no clear limit on who else should get appanage come. That Prince Carl Philip and Princess Madeleine with families will receive apanage in the future is not certain, said Jan Lindman.

I saw that update earlier this morning. I hope that is a subtle message: I don't dare to hope in a photo with only thr king and Estelle, but I trust the royal court will release other generational photos like this one in the future...

The royal court organizes an exhibition of five royal wedding dresses in honor of the king and queen's 40th wedding anniversary. The wedding dresses of queen Silvia, Victoria, Madeleine, Sofia and Lilian will be at the exhibition at the Royal Palace between 22nd October - 5th March 2017.

Expressen writes that the share transactions of Victoria, Carl Philip and Madeleine are going well.
The market value of their company Gluonen AB has increased strongly in 2015.
The company, which has existed for about 30 years, handles some of Victoria's, Carl Philip's and Madeleine's transactions with shares and funds.
- It has worked well over the years that I have been involved. It has not been any reason to change that, says Jan Lindman, Treasurer of the court.
The result for 2015 (profit) was 788,344 SEK, about 400 000 SEK less than in 2014.
But no money is taken out by the royal children. The money is reinvested in the company. That means they buy new shares and funds with the profit.
Bit of a million rain, it has indirectly been in 2015. The market value rose namely by almost 8.4 million to 33.2 million SEK.

Svensk Damtidning speculates about where the royal family is on midsummer.
The king and queen usually go to their Villa Mirage in St. Maxime with their closest friends. Princess Christina and family spend summers in Vence at Alpes Maritimes and the king and queen like the place too. Perhaps it will be midsummer with big sister for the king this year?
Victoria and Daniel go to their Villa Skönvik in Solliden always when they can. It is rumoured that Madeleine and Chris are abroad on midsummer, and Carl Philip and Sofia stay in Sweden, they will be in Trosa according to Svensk Damtidning's information.

Svensk Damtidning has an article about "The Royal Family's Borgholm", telling about the places which the royals often visit.
Victoria and Daniel buy strawberries from "Pelle på Torget" at Bomans Torghandel. They have shopped there during all the years, both flowers and fresh fruit and vegetables. Daniel loves good food and that the ingredients are ecological and well chosen. Now and then he and Victoria visit Karin Fransson at Hotel Borgholm to eat well. Victoria likes to take Estelle to the Harvest Festival held in the end of September-beginning of October. Estelle thinks pumpkins are fun. Chris O'Neill has been seen at the Pharmacy and Sjöbergs Tobak. He buys favourite summer drink Pimms from Systembolaget (Government owned chain of liquor stores in Sweden). He and Madeleine order pizza to Solliden from the local pizzeria in Borgholm. Victoria and Daniel are often shopping at ICA Borgholm. Estelle and her parents buy Piggelin tuttifrutti ice cream bars from Pressbyrån. The royal family attends at concerts at the Borgholm Castle ruins. Victoria shops sometimes summer shoes from Nyströms Skoaffär and clothes from Lavendel. The king and queen take part at the traditional King's Rally which starts from Borgholm.

German florist Hans-Peter Mathes helps with the flower decorations of the royal family's big celebrations in Sweden. He told to Bunte TV, that queen Silvia visits Heidelberg more often than people think, incognito. He told also that the daughter of queen Silvia's late brother gets married in July in Bonn. He says that all the weddings have been nice for a florist, but Victoria's was of course the most special. Of the christenings he remembers best Leonore's, because one soldier fell. All the florists are like one big family and work as a team. He speaks german with the royal family and has met all the grandchildren and Estelle has greeted him: Who are you?

so the flowers at victoria's wedding came all the way from germany?

No, the flowers came from Europe and South America, Colombia told before the wedding that they donate 40000 flowers to Victoria's wedding and it was later confirmed that flowers came also from South America, not just Europe.
Claes Carlsson is the main court florist, who has many florists helping him at the royal family's important events. This german Hans-Peter Mathes is one of the florists who come to Sweden to work with Carlsson at big events.

Motion: No money to Victoria's siblings
Robert Hannah from the Liberals Party wants to stop the state's payments to Princess Madeleine and Prince Carl Philip.
In a parliamentary motion, he suggests that only the head of state and the heir to the throne would get part of the annual apanage from the state.
- Taxpayers should not pay for the royal family's shopping sprees, he says.
When the royal family grows, and the grant from the state to the royal family has increased.
- Employment principle should apply to all, even the royal family. The only ones that according to the order of succession have a real mission are the head of state and the heir to the throne. The others have no job and I question why they should then get a share of government money, says Robert Hannah, Member of Parliament for the Liberals.
- The royal family gets more money because there are more members, but they do not make more work for it.
That claim is denied by Margareta Thorgren, the director of the press department in her commentary:
"The grant is in addition to a supplement for improved security, only adjusted in the same way as other government grants to compensate for price and wage increases. Thus, there is no connection between the apanage and the number of members of the royal family".
In the current situation works disbursement of appanage so that the court submits a budget which then forms the basis of how much money royal family receives. Then the king chooses how the money should be divided between family members. Poor management of taxpayers' money, says Hannah, requiring clearer rules.
- Taxpayers should not pay for the royal family's shopping sprees. Give the taxpayers' money for instance for assistance for the disabled, not to one of Sweden's wealthiest families.
That the apanage from the state finances the royal family's shopping sprees is incorrect, says Jan Lindman from the court.
- It is simply not true. The grant pays for the operations of the court in the form of state visits, trips and also the staff, on the court. A smaller part of the apanage goes to the royal family's expenses.
How much of the money goes to each family member is not always obvious. On the contrary, there are conditions.
- For Prince Carl Philip and Princess Madeleine's part they receive a part of the apanage in relation to the amount of official duties they perform at the King's behalf. The grant has not increased when the family has expanded. On the contrary: Now people get more royal activities for the money because there are now more royals and they can do more work. But they do not get more money for it.

Thanks, Lady Finn. I must admit I don't understand the motion though.

According to the Swedish Royal Court website, the apanage is divided between the King's Household, the Queen's Household, Crown Princess Victoria's Household, and the Royal Mews. Then, there is a separate public grant (i.e. not part of the apanage) which is used for maintenance of the Royal Palaces.

In other words, Madeleine and CP, as of today, already do not get any direct funding from the Swedish taxpayer. Whatever money they get is paid through one of the grant recipients above (I'd imagine, probably the King's Household).

As I understand it then, the motion is not really for CP and Madeleine not to get any public money, which is already the case, but rather to cut the apanage based on the argument that recent increases were made to pay for an enlarged royal family, which, as Margaretha Thorgren said, is not accurate.

Furthermore, although CP and Madeleine do not get direct public funding, I believe it is fair that, when they participate in public engagements on behalf of the King, they should be reimbursed from the King's Household grant for the associated expenses. Don't you also think so ?

Who becomes regent when Victoria is queen and she leaves Sweden? Has that been formally determined?

Who becomes regent when Victoria is queen and she leaves Sweden? Has that been formally determined?

The Instrument of Government says that, when the Head of State is absent, the first person in the line of succession who is over 18 and is present in Sweden assumes the regency. If there is no one available in the line of succession meeting the aforementioned conditions, then the Riksdag must appoint an ínterim regent,

There is no need then to lay down Specific rules for Victoria's reign as the matter is already covered in the constitution.

I think Robert Hannah really wants to take the apanage away from Carl Philip and Madeleine. And in that way the apanage could be cut in some extent. The problem is that the court doesn't publish the sums how much of the apanage is given to the king and queen, how much to Victoria and Daniel and how much to Carl Philip and Madeleine. I think many people doubt the court's statement that Carl Philip and Madeleine get the apanage only when they do work duties on behalf of the king. And what is a work duty? Is the Royal family photo call in Solliden on their summer holiday a work event, Madeleine wore there a Valentino blouse which cost over 1400 euros (Especially Svensk Damtidning publishes the prizes of the outfits very often). Madeleine has chosen to live in London, so does the court pay her flight tickets (and her children's flight tickets if they attend at an event too) every time she comes to Sweden, because she usually comes to some official family celebration or a state work event. Is the private funeral of countess Gunnila Bernadotte an official work event, it is at the royal calendar?
This summer the gossip press has constantly written about Madeleine's luxurious way of life, mostly of her holidays and constant shopping new clothes. And Madeleine doesn't do so many work events in a year. Maybe Robert Hannah has seen the headlines and started to look how much Madeleine and Carl Philip work and what kind of a role they have in the royal family and in Sweden.

I'm not surprised about Hannah's suggestion. I think it's a mistake that the court doesn't specify the amounts that goes to Madeleine and Carl Philip. My gut feeling is that most people think that the king&queen and Victoria&Daniel does a good job. But Madeleine is the work shy princess who is married to an american who doesn't want to learn swedish or show up on family occasions. (That doesn't mean that I totally agree with that, but I would say that's a quite common opinion). Why should she be given money for plane tickets or expensive clothes?

The court needs to be more open on these issues. If not, there is a big risk that it backfires.

I think it is a little far-fetched to say that the apanage is paying for Madeleine's clothes as that is probably not true. It is very likely though that the Queen"s and Victoria's clothes are paid for by the Swedish taxpayer.

Denmark in a way is similar to Sweden in the sense that Queen Margrethe and CP Frederik are technically the only members of the RF entitled to direct public funding, THe Danish court, however, openly acknowledges that part of the Queen's grant goes to Prince Joachim and openly publishes the amounts involved, so we know exactly how much money Joachim gets.

The problem in Sweden, as I see it, is that Carl Philip and Madeleine officially get no public money at all , but, in practice, they are indirectly funded by the King's grant and there is little transparency about how much money they get exactly and what the money is used for. Again, I doubt it is for clothing though.

I think the court needs to come clean about who gets what and how much. This looks like an issue that is not going to go away. The SRF should not wait until more investigative press to come out that makes it look bad and there is a reveal only because the court had no choice.
