Margareta Thorgren has been interviewed by Svenska YLE, the swedish news editorial of YLE, the public service broadcasting company in Finland.

The Swedish royal house's Instagram account is filled with pictures of the king in video meetings - why?
The pictures on social media show that the life and everyday life of the royal family is also affected by the corona crisis. Margareta Thorgren, director of the press department, says that the royalty should support the people in the time of crisis, but also set a good example.
We have to make up our minds to stay home, the king said in his speech to the Swedish nation in early April. He explained that everyone, including him, must stay home during Easter.
When Queen Margarethe turned 80, the royal house published a video greeting from royal houses all over Europe.
The Swedish royal house's Instagram and Facebook accounts are full of picture evidence of how the royal family's work is also adapted to the corona crisis. No job is going on as usual, many pictures are shared at video meetings.
Margareta Thorgren explains that the king's role in the time of crisis is extra important. The monarchy, unlike the elected officials who are replaced every four years, must look to Sweden's best in the long term and unpolitically.
- When a country gets into a crisis, perhaps this unpolitical role and support for Sweden is more important than ever, and we have tried to address that.
It is also about setting a good example and showing that it is important to follow the advice of the authorities. And to instill support from the people.
- The action of the royal family is something that many people notice. The Swedish people listen to the king and act many times according to what the royal family does. It's about being a support and a consolation and the view that this is a time we all go through, but there is also a time after. A crisis is a difficult period but will go over.
The work of the royal family is largely made up of representation and meetings. Like all other organizations, their work has been adapted to the situation.
- With the help of technology and digital communication, we have tried not only to cancel or postpone things, but meetings and audiences that are possible to do, they are implemented. It is important not to stop, but to think in a new way.
Corona-related tasks have also been added, such as supporting and alerting people and groups who are doing an important job in the crisis. This too must be done through press images and social media.
- We have a lot of pressure from the media, Thorgren explains.
Normally, both photo agencies and the media participate in many of the meetings, gatherings and events that the royal family undertakes. The pictures on video meetings are a way to invite and show that the meetings continue - but via video.
- The most important thing is that we write about the meetings themselves, because they are the same. It might not be as fun to see someone sitting in a video meeting, but that's how it looks right now.
Can there be any consolation in the fact that the members of the royal house must also adapt to the situation?
- Yes, I think so. It is also a way to support and to continue to think new during this difficult period. So it is also a part, that you see that here too, members of the royal family sit and work just like everyone else through various digital technologies.

Svensk Damtidning has an article about the royal family and selfies

Queen Silvia is a person of great warmth and generosity. This is testified to by all who have met her in different contexts. She is a fellow human first, a royal second. At the same time, she maintains her integrity - and this is evident in her attitude towards selfies.
It was Expressen which in 2017 managed to get a document that the royal house had sent. The document was a list of requirements that the queen wanted to convey before a royal visit and was addressed to an organizer of an event where the Queen was to attend.
There it is clear that the queen is not fond of the selfie phenomenon. At least not if she should stand in front of the lens herself.
“The royal family has cameras constantly aiming at them. Photography is allowed, but it should be done from proper distance, not close in. Self-portraits together with royal people with mobile cameras, so-called selfies, and the like are being declined of", said the document according to Expressen.
Crown Princess Victoria and Queen Silvia are two royals with the same basic attitude to royal assignments: they should be handled with both dignity and warmth.
But when it comes to selfies, mom and daughter feel completely different, Victoria likes to pose for selfies. During Victoriadagen she usually takes hundreds of selfies with the royal fans who have come to celebrate her outside Solliden.
Little different is it with husband Prince Daniel, who has his principles. He himself likes to take a selfie, both at work and in private, but when it comes to the children, Estelle and Oscar, it is another cup of tea.
The royal siblings attend only a few official celebrations each year. And Daniel wants it to remain so. On July 14, when the Crown Princess celebrates her birthday on Öland, the children are always present. And the photographers are almost more interested in photographing them than their parents.
But when the family, on the other hand, go out, off the official calendar, Daniel wants you to ask before photographing Estelle and Oscar. They should, like all other children, be able to have days when they are not included in the picture. This rule Daniel wants both photographers, and the Swedish people, to follow. And when someone breaks it, he has no problem of speaking up, in a friendly but determined way.
Princess Madeleine and Chris O'Neill are also keen on their integrity. They live their anonymous life in Florida, Madeleine has a secret Instagram account for her immediate family and Chris evades close attention. At the same time, Madeleine chooses to regularly post pictures of her children on Instagram. However, this is fully conscious on the part of the princess. For her, it's about keeping control of the images.

Svensk Damtidning's article about the royal family's pets, mostly dogs.
Victoria had a snail, Johanna, at Drottningholm Palace. A little slow darling that she took good care of and was happy to carry around, she told this in Herman Lindqvist's book Victoria: Drottning med tiden from 2009. The horses, Princess Estelle rides her white welsh pony Viktor, who is at the Royal Stables on a daily basis, but who usually move to Solliden in the summers. And there you can actually see the king, Carl Philip and Victoria riding.
And do not be surprised if you were overtaken by an equipage with Victoria on the driver's seat. Her unknown talent: She's simply super stylish at riding a carriage and pair.

Expressen:
Intensive work is currently underway to plan the royal family's autumn, only one thing is certain - it is like no other before.
When Expressen talks to Margareta Thorgren, the king's and Silvia's task is clear:
- One of the most important things is to support Sweden.
The royal family's holiday is over, during the week King Carl Gustaf, Queen Silvia, Crown Princess Victoria return to their work.
- The activities will increase from this week, says Margareta Thorgren.
But it will be an autumn different from all previous years. Just like before the summer, the royal family is forced to adapt to the corona restrictions.
At present, there are no planned state visits, neither incoming nor outgoing, and the big Nobel banquet is canceled.
What does the plan look like for the autumn - what will the royal couple and the crown princess couple do?
- We are making plans for the autumn. Much of the autumn will certainly be about seeing, paying attention to and supporting various organizations and those who have been particularly affected. Although it has partly been done during the spring, it is one of the most important things - to support Sweden. This can be done by paying attention to organizations, everything from companies in the business world to healthcare and elderly care.
The king and queen spent the spring in quarantine at Stenhammar Castle. Will they return there after the summer on Öland?
- I can't say anything about it. Autumn is an another phase when it comes to covid-19, which means that it will certainly look a little different than spring.
Hovets besked om kungens och Silvias höst_ ”Stödja Sverige”

Svensk Damtidning:
Estelle is back at school and Victoria and Daniel start work on Thursday. But where's Queen Silvia?
The royal family's summer vacation is coming to an end. Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel are back in Stockholm, and for Princess Estelle, 8, the school desk is waiting on Campus Manilla, where she is currently starting second grade.
Another clear sign that the royal autumn has got off to a flying start is the fact that the court's official calendar has once again started to be filled with official assignments. Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel start on Thursday and then there are a few intense days with seven missions in a row, until the middle of next week.
One who is missing in the royal planning - at least so far - is Queen Silvia.
The last time we saw her on August 10, she was by the king's side in connection with him handing out prizes in the Themed Gardens competition at Solliden Palace and a few days later the court posted a picture from the royal couple's private visit to Zorngården in Mora, a picture that was later removed.
But there is no drama behind the queen's absence in the royal calendar.
- The royal couple is at Solliden, and they are back in Stockholm next week, says Margareta Thorgren to Svensk Damtidning.
Then a different autumn awaits Queen Silvia, without official travel and without state visits. There will be no gala dinners and no Nobel party. But a long list of important assignments, both for Sweden and for the children's rights organization Childhood. And a lot of the work takes place as usual behind the scenes.

Svensk Damtidning:
Prince Daniel is leaves the home isolation behind and steps out into society again: Of the eight assignments that await him, during the next week, at least three will take place in different places in Stockholm.
He and Crown Princess Victoria will, among other things, visit the ambulance station in Solna, meet representatives of Visita (which supports the hospitality industry) at a large hotel in central Stockholm and meet the artists in the studio association wip: sthlm in their new studio house in Västberga.
- The situation regarding Covid-19 has stabilized, we have become accustomed to living with the coronavirus and have learned to relate to it. To the extent that it is possible to have smaller individual meetings with a physical presence, we will have it, says Margareta Thorgren to Svensk Damtidning.
- The focus will be on paying attention to and supporting various organizations and those who have been particularly affected.
- We continue to follow the recommendations that apply to Sweden, and there will also continue to be a lot of digital meetings. All major things, such as the Nobel Banquet and incoming and outgoing state visits, are also canceled.
What is the situation for the royal couple?
- The King will carry out his official assignments during the autumn as far as possible, but without going against the restrictions and recommendations that apply in Sweden.
Does this mean that the Crown Princess couple will have a more outward-looking role than the royal couple?
- Since the royal couple belongs to a risk group, the work may sometimes be arranged in other ways. In cases where they are prevented, the king always has the opportunity to delegate assignments to the Crown Princess or to someone else in the royal family.

Victoria and Daniel are taking a big step forward.
The king steps aside and gives the crown princess couple increasing responsibility.
Is this the beginning of a change of throne we see?
It will be a flying start for Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel after the couple's wonderful holiday on beautiful Solliden.
For a week from now, they will carry out ten new assignments. No one else in the royal family is on the agenda when the court accelerates after the summer holidays.
In other words, Victoria and Daniel have their hands full. On Thursday, they will have four different missions, three of which will take place at the Royal Palace.
Next Monday, the prince will hold a digital meeting around the Prince Daniel's Fellowship. On Tuesday, it is the Crown Princess' turn to take part in the inauguration of Stockholm Fashion Week. She also participates digitally in the distribution of the Stockholm Junior Water Prize.
Furthermore, the two royals will visit the studio association wip: sthlm and then meet Alexander Atarodi on Sida. On Thursday, next week's activities will end with a visit to the ambulance service in the Stockholm Region.
This schedule clearly shows a possible transfer of responsibility for the Crown Princess couple. According to the court, the king will carry out official missions but with clear restrictions and guidelines.
As is well known, the royal couple is in the risk group for the pandemic and the question now is whether Victoria will shoulder her father's role more and more in the future?

Royal visits to all counties in Sweden due to the ongoing pandemic
Due to the strains that the whole of Sweden is undergoing as a result of the ongoing covid-19 pandemic, members of the Royal Family are visiting, on HM the King's initiative, Sweden's 21 counties.
Through the visits, the King wants to show participation with the affected and draw attention to local initiatives in various sectors of society, as well as instill confidence and faith in the future.
The visits will take place in the autumn 2020 and in the spring 2021. The King has decided that the visits will be divided between the King and Queen, the Crown Princess Couple and the Prince Couple. During the visits, members of the Royal Family meet the governors and representatives of health and care. Other regional issues concerning culture and business will also be highlighted.
All visits are carried out in forms adapted to the ongoing pandemic and in accordance with the Swedish Public Health Agency's recommendations.
Information about the programs is published at www.kungahuset.se/press, closer to each visit.

Fashion designer Lars Wallin (55) celebrates 30 years as a designer by releasing an autobiography "Avklädd". Svensk Damtidning has interviewed Lars Wallin.

The first dress which Lars Wallin designed to Victoria, was a dress to the Nobel Prize in 2000. It became a favourite for Victoria, who wore it so many times that she was criticized. It meant a lot to Lars Wallin, the crown princess is a big idol and role model.
- Victoria is amazing! I think I have never met a person who is as genuinely interested in everything as Victoria. She has such a presence.
Lars Wallin designed Victoria's Nobel dress also in 2001 and 2003, and Madeleine's Nobel dress in 2008 and Sofia's dress to the State visit from Canada in 2017.

Unlike many other countries, the pandemic in Sweden is now under control and the Swedish royal family can act a little differently than its European counterparts.
Now the king wants to show his solidarity with everyone who has been affected by the pandemic in various ways and the entire royal family will go out into the country to find out about the situation.
- The King thinks it is important to meet all 21 counties in the near future, says Margareta Thorgren.
It is the royal couple, the crown princess couple and the prince couple who will distribute the visits among themselves, and they will also continue during the spring. So far, no dates have been nailed down.
- The program is developed based on the needs and challenges that each county has, says Margareta Thorgren.
"Has been stressful"
Business, culture, care and care are parts that will be affected and the Public Health Agency's restrictions will be followed.
- The challenge will be that even in ordinary cases there will be large crowds when the royal family visits different places. We are usually transparent and open, but we will not be able to be this time.
Is it not also a health risk for the king and queen who are over 70 years old?
- A pandemic is always that, but if you stick to the restrictions, we see that it is possible to implement.
How has the royal family experienced the pandemic?
- It has been stressful for everyone, it is important to find a new kind of everyday life and it is an adaptation that is quite the same for everyone, says Margareta Thorgren.
The Swedish royal family has never worn a mask, completely according to the Swedish recommendations.

Why do the Swedes feel the need to stress that they are so different than other European countries? And why brag about not wearing masks?

Currently, the pandemic is indeed under control, however, as in other countries, we have seen that can be temporarily and might easily change over the next weeks or months. Sweden got to it's current level by mid-July, which was about 2 months later than many other European countries and it was at an enormous cost of 580 deaths per 1 M inhabitants (the same level as Italy; and much worse than its neighbors Denmark (110), Finland (61) and Norway (49)).

In addition, how is the royal family visiting various places in the country that different than for example the royal couple in the Netherlands doing a regional visit and the king's older mother and aunt also having restarted their activities? And they typically don't wear masks either... Or Charles and Camilla having resumed their visits supported by among others their heirs. I hope each royal family is complying with their country's regulations and tries to stay safe both to not be infected themselves and not infect others unknowingly.

It seems the Swedes feel the need to prove themselves...

I don't get the feeling at all that the article is trying to brag about something, just describing the situation. Perhaps some nuaces are lost in translation?

The infection rate is unfortunatly going up again in many other european countries, but so far it's not here in Sweden. There are more cases per 100 000 people in (as an example) Norway and Denmark - it's been the other way around for the last 6 months, so my feeling is that the author mentions this since it's kind of a reversed situation.

The part about the royal family not wearing masks when they are out in public is - as I read it - just a nod to the fact that they are indeed following the Swedish guidelines set by the local authorities. So are other royals.

Although most Swedes support the government's handling of the pandemic few feel it necessary to prove a point here. We're very much aware of how many of our compatriots have died during the last few months.
The post by LadyFinn is only an excerpt of an article in Sweden's biggest tabloid Aftonbladet and except for a few quotes from Margaretha Thorgren it's the paper's take on the visits and the pandemic not that of the Royal family.

- Previously, the focus was on their spouses, now it's time for queens to appear. These women have meant a lot to the monarchy, says author Karin Tegenborg Falkdalen.
Ever since she was a little girl, Karin Tegenborg Falkdalen has been fascinated by the royala. Especially during their excursions to different castles with grandma and grandpa.
In her new book "Swedish queens" she goes through the queens from the Vasa period to today. And then as now, queens in different times have meant a lot to ensure the survival of the monarchy by giving birth to an heir.
In 1976, something revolutionary happened in the royal family, when Silvia became queen?
- Well, when she came it was written that she would help open up and modernize the Swedish royal family and I think she has done that. I think there has been more focus, she is a competent professional woman who works hard at the king's side. The Queen has professionalized the whole thing. I think she has meant a lot, many also talk about her being very charismatic and representative by the king's side.
- And it is also something that goes again, very dutiful. She has made statements in several interviews that she wants to be a support for the king. She has been by his side for almost 50 years.
How could Crown Princess Victoria develop the role of queen?
- They have been careful to train her in the role from childhood so that she is well educated and has a broad foundation to stand on. Symbolically, it can mean a lot that she is a woman who will take over a role that is very masculine coded - and then she has daughter Estelle who comes after her. There will be two queens on each other. It gives a modern touch to the monarchy as an institution on a symbolic level, I think.
But she must also ensure that the monarchy lives on?
- Yes, there is still a lot of tradition, but hopefully the individual can also be more expressed. Monarchy is very much based on tradition, history and continuity. The Crown Princess well anchored in that. It will be exciting to see, but it is a good start, I think, that we can get more women on the throne.
- Danish King Fredrik IX, who married Princess Ingrid of Sweden in 1935, wanted a modern and conservative wife at the same time. I've been thinking quite a lot about it, that it can probably fit in quite well with today's queen role as well.

Obviously people are still interested in royals, Svensk Damtidning ("The royal weekly magazine") tells about their success.

Svensk Dam's success figures - increased by 50 percent!
Svensk Damtidning goes against the trend in the media world - and is only growing!
Svensk Damtidning has long been one of the Swedish people's most important sources for royal news. And the fact is, we're just getting bigger.
New figures from the measuring institute Kantar Sifo show that Svensk Damtidning has shown a senseless development. If you combine both print and digital, the range has increased by as much as 50 percent - in just one year!
Our editor-in-chief Johan T Lindwall is of course more than satisfied.
- In this new survey, which looks back a year, Svensk Damtidning goes from 384,000 to 576,000. An increase of one year of over 50 percent. These are exceptional, incredible numbers. Last quarter, we increased by 32 percent. These are very gratifying figures, figures that should really be impossible. 50 percent in one year, says Johan T.
How then can we have made such colossal progress? According to Johan T, this is due to Svensk Dam's clear digital strategy.
- We have really decided that we will be in the first place, at the forefront, in digital development. When we started we were quite small digitally, today we are the largest player in the digital market when it comes to royal events. And we see it, that when there is big news on the royalty front, Svenskdam.se is the news source you are looking for. It used to be the evening papers, now we have taken over that role. It feels incredibly fun to see this result. Now we can only increase even more and see that we have the audience with us, that they see us as the main source of royal coverage. And we have also broadened lately, so it will be exciting to see what the surveys show in the future. Now we are happy with this - 50 percent!

Rania Shemoun Olsson is obviously the new host of "Kungahuset", TV4's annual program of the royal family. The previous host Jesper Börjesson left TV4 in the beginning of the year.
Rania has posted photos to her Instagram, for instance been with the crown princess couple in Södermanland, at the concert at Stockholm Concert Hall and in Sandviken, and with the prince couple in Värmland.

SVT tells about the annual program "Året med kungafamiljen 2020" (The Year with the Royal Family) at the press release of the programs during Christmas.

Follow when Crown Princess Victoria takes her children, princess Estelle and Prince Oscar, out in the sheep pasture and to the hives at Haga Palace. SVT has also met the royal couple among reindeer in Jokkmokk, just before the pandemic took off. The corona pandemic has, of course, affected the work of the royal family, and much has been done remotely. Healthcare has been in focus, for example when the Crown Princess couple visited the field hospital in Älvsjö and when Princess Sofia has joined at work at Sophiahemmet.
The program will be broadcast at SVT Play & SVT1 on Monday 21 December at 20.00.
