The Crown Princess visited Askö laboratory
On Friday 29 September, the Crown Princess and Princess Estelle visited Askö Laboratory in Trosa Archipelago.
The laboratory belongs to Stockholm University's Baltic Sea Centre. The field station is a national resource and operates marine activities all year long.
The Crown Princess and Princess Estelle were welcomed by Tina Elfwing, director of the Baltic Sea Centre, in Uttervik, and then they went to Askö.
The visit to Askö began with a walking tour where Tina Elfwing told about the research station. Crown Princess and Princess Estelle also saw plants and animals from the Baltic Sea and met researchers at the laboratory.

Royal visit to Askö laboratory
There are several connections between the Swedish royal family and Askö Laboratory. In the 50th anniversary, Askö was given as a symbolic gift to King Carl XVI Gustaf and in 2016 a royal guest professorship of Baltic Sea research was established. During Friday, the marine research station was visited by Crown Princess Victoria and Princess Estelle, who visited there for the first time.
It was a happy princess couple who landed in the boat house at Askö after a boat trip with quite a tough lake. Because Estelle visited the field station for the first time, the director of the Baltic Sea Center Tina Elfwing was able to give a brief image of the 66-year history of the laboratory.
Inside the aquarium hall, Professor Lena Kautsky showed some of the new inhabitants who came to the Baltic Sea, including the round goby and the Chinese mitten crab with what Estelle decided to make friends with and named it Kina. However, it remains to be seen if it becomes the official name of the aquarium guest. Guests were given a closer look at the Baltic's biodiversity and the day-catching catches from the morning's landwad in the Gulf.
- There is so much to get to know and we don't have time to everything we want. We will have to come back, Victoria announced when it was time to leave the laboratory and move on.

On Friday, Estelle, 5, practiced the royal role by following Crown Princess Victoria on a visit to Askö Laboratory.
- The Crown Princess wanted to visit Askö laboratory to learn more about their work and what is being done there. The Crown Princess has a great commitment and interest in marine issues, and this was a part of deepening her knowledge in those questions, said Ulrika Näsholm, information officer at the court, who participated at the visit.
Why princess Estelle was with at the visit?
- It's important to learn in an early age the association of what we can see in the ocean and how it is influenced by how we people act. This was a way for Princess Estelle to see with her own eyes and learn about this question.
Tina Elfwing, director of the Baltic Sea Centre, was very impressed by Victoria and Estelle.
- It is very clear that Victoria talks about these questions with Estelle. I noticed that it was not the first time Estelle got information about what problems there are at the ocean, it is something they talk about at home.
Professor Lena Kautsky showed new species that have come to the Baltic Sea, among them Chinese mitten crab.
- Princess Estelle was very fond of it. It was hiding all the time when Estelle tried to look at it, so she thought it was exciting. She gave it the name "Kina".
What Crown Princess Victoria's involvement in these questions means?
- A lot. She is incredibly knowledgeable and curious. I have met her several times and every time we meet she wants to know the latest in different areas. I'm really impressed.

 Thank you LadyFinn.
It was really nice to see that Estelle came along too, and cute to see her so inquisitive about the event. I love the anecdote about her naming the sea creature China!

Thank you Lady Finn for Victoria is such an amazing woman, mother and future queen, here she is teaching and showing her daughter all the things of being a future queen and showing her how to do them at this young age. I very much admire Victoria and Daniel on how well they are teaching their daughter about her future role, what an example she sets for other royal families to follow.

Asko Laboratory has put more photos of Victoria and Estelle visiting their last Friday.
"At the Crown Princess and Princess Estelle's visit to Friday, a long net was used to collect algae, fish and small insects which in the water this year. Later in winter, much of the wildlife goes out to a greater depth where it winters. The material was sorted and placed in aquariums inside the course laboratory. ... There was much more to explore and Princess Estelle would love to have stayed longer."

Princess Estelle is surely getting a great education in not only her future duties as queen but an education by her mother in all things of nature. What a wonderful mother Princess Victoria is and a great role model.

When Victoria inaugurated Marine Educational Centre, she said at her speech:
- Estelle, that's a sharp girl! Victoria said before she inaugurated the Centre by dropping a crab into the little aquarium.
- My daughter is interested in everything that has to do with nature and the environment.
Then the Crown Princess told us about an excursion they had previously made together.
- Last week we were at Askö Laboratory, and Estelle started asking questions already in the boat there. "Mom, what's the difference between seaweed and algae?". Then we were told that seaweeds have roots. And it's just knowledge that makes you look after the world and take care of it. So why is this new house so important!

Victoria told that on their boat trip to Askoö Laboratory they had some researchers on board so Estelle could ask questions to them. So we learned that seaweed has roots and not algae.
Victoria explained how important the conversation with researchers and experts - and to try out the practicalness of the field is. Especially for children of early age.
- Estelle listened and there became even more questions of course. This is so important. The door opens to a new world. We learned about a whole new world for her, the world under the surface.

Victoria visited also Mid Sweden University today, its The Swedish Winter Sports Research Centre and Sports Tech Research Centre. County governor Jöran Hägglund attended also at the visit.
The visit took place when the Crown Princess attended the Paralympic Qualification Tournament in para ice hockey in Östersund.
- We are both proud and happy that the Crown Princess chose to visit us. Parasport is a natural part of the business for Mid Sweden University. Our and the whole region's ambition is to be a national and international node for research, testing, development and education linked to parasport. We have known that the Crown Princess has a lot of commitment to para sport, which was clearly noted during her visit. I feel that the Crown Princess shares our view of the importance that different parties in society, including Mid Sweden University and Sport, work together to create an active life for everyone, says Mats Tinnsten, pro-vice-chancellor of Mid Sweden University.

That is a real cute picture of her sitting there with the team, she seems like such a wonderful kind lady who is considerate to all around her. Just so admire this young woman and all that she does and how she handles the pressure of being a future queen with such grace and dignity.

Thank you for the video, I watched it and I almost fell off my chair with giggles when Victoria tumbled off that sled, is that what it is? She is such a darn good sport to try this in public and so cute in her response to trying to stir it and then falling. She is going to make a very wonderful queen someday, and what a mother she is for her daughter who will follow in her footsteps.
