Countess Gunnila Bernadotte af Wisborg's pearl and diamond diadem will be sold at an auction at Bukowskis December Auction.
Viewings will take place on 6–12 December in the newly renovated premises in Berzelii Park in Stockholm with the hammer auction held on 13 December.
- It is a great honor for us to convey the diadem belonged to Gunnila Bernadotte. She wore it at all solemn occasions and of course the diadem could be seen on both Crown Princess Victoria and Princess Madeleine's wedding, says Sophia Åkerlund, jewelry specialist at Bukowskis.
- The model of the diadem is unusual and certainly very personal in its expression: platinum, diamonds and cultured pearls forming an elegant lily of the valley and the crown is stamped with French stamps. A diadem is often diverse jewelry that can be worn in many different ways: lily of the valley branch can also be worn separately as a brooch.

Was this her wish? Because she is only dead for a month and they sell it already.

Probably an agreement between her and her children.
The diadem is probably from her family and not from Carl Johans family.

Yes, according to court jeweller and a few other sites, the tiara is a piece from her own family. Gunilla of course had aristocratic blood on both sides. It is said to have originally been an aigrette and can still be worn as such

I think this makes sense, because otherwise it would look a tad unsensible after such a short time.

I didn't know she was a Swedish Aristo herself. If Carl had married her first, he would have still lost the title etc., because she wasn't a Royal, no?

Yes she was a Countess in her own right too (Countess Wachtmeister af Johannishaus). Yes Carl Johan would have lost his titles anyway as it was written in the constitution by then that the Royal Princes could not marry "below their status".
But maybe the relationship to his father and grandfather would have been easier as the royal family and Gunnila's family new each other very well.

Thanks! Too bad that the rules were rigid. I mean Margaret had so many sons and none of them became King or stayed royal. But then again we wouldn't have Victoria and Estelle.

A person asks at Bukowskis Facebook, when countess Gunnila's diadem is made? Sophia Åkerlund, jewelry specialist at Bukowskis answers:
- Thank you for your question. It is difficult to determine the exact age, but probably the diadem was made between 1910-1930. It has possibly also been revised.

Sophia Åkerlund, jewelry specialist at Bukowskis, told to Expressen that the reserve price of countess Gunnila's diadem will be 60 000 - 80 000 SEK. Diadem is not always very easy to sell, but they are seeing an increase in interest.

Countess Gunnila's tiara/brooch now at the online catalogue of Bukowskis
Provenance
Most likely Märta (Hörke) Wachtmeister af Johannishus, born de Geer af Leufsta (1896-1976) then passed on to her daughter Gunnila Bernadotte af Wisborg, born Wachtmeister af Johannishus (1923 -2016.)
According to information, Märta and her sister Marianne, (married to Carl Bernadotte and re-married to Marcus Wallenberg) both received a tiara at their weddings.
Gunnila Bernadotte married Count Carl-Johan Bernadotte (1916 -2012), the youngest son of King Gustaf VI Adolf.
Countess Bernadotte frequently wore this tiara to royal events, including the wedding of Crown Princess Victoria and the wedding of Princess Madeleine .

Um is tha a horrid translation or was the writer confused

It implies Marianne Bernadotte is Gunilla's aunt it says Gunilla inherited the tiara from her mother Marta. This makes sense as we were told it is a piece from her family. But then goes on to say Marta and her sister Marianne recurred tiaras on their marriage. Gunilla and Marianne are sister I laws, not sisters, not Marta and Marianne. And then there is the whole, second paragraph implies Gunilla got her tiara from the royals and not her mother.

Marta and Marianne are sisters. I think you're thinking of a different Marianne Bernadotte, married to Sigvard Bernadotte, and was born in 1924. Marianne de Geer was born in 1893 and is the elder sister of Marta de Geer, born in 1896, who is Gunilla's mother.

It is Gunnila Bernadotte, not Gunilla. Gunilla is more used in Sweden but our countess was Gunnila.

And there is nothing wrong with the text.
It tells about Marianne de Geer af Leufsta (sister of Gunnila's mother Märta), who was married with Carl Bernadotte af Wisborg in 1915-1935, and is the mother of for instance Dagmar von Arbin, whom we see attending at all royal family's events.
After divorcing from Carl Bernadotte, Marianne remarried with businessman Marcus Wallenberg in 1936.

The moderating team have discussed a few threads in the Swedish forum going forward, and have decided that members of the extended Bernadotte family can be discussed in one thread:
