AMMAN, Jordan -- Lawmakers have approved a measure that would only allow a state-appointed council to issue religious edicts, a move aimed at denying Islamic hard-liners a forum for disseminating extremist ideology.
The proposal on "fatwas," Arabic for religious edicts, follows a pledge by Jordanian ruler King Abdullah II in the wake of terror recent attacks to tighten legislation to prevent radical viewpoints from taking root

JORDAN will, in the near future, invest in agricultural projects in Tanzania. This follows talks held here between President Jakaya Kikwete and King Abdullah II bin al Hussein of Jordan.

Is this for real, $62.5 million boarding school (built in the image of the king's alma mater in Deerfield) for what !! I wonder how much the fees will be and how many families in Jordan can afford to send their children there :ohmy:

this is so funny i'm watching the view (with barbara walters) she had an interview with the king at the united nations and during the conversation he told her he had watched THE VIEW that morning!! she asked him how he liked it and he said he enjoyed it (what could he say i guess) but he laughed at the "hot topic" it was about gossip and thats always a "hot topic" in Jordon. she also said Rania is lovely and warm.
 
King visits zainb islamic center (Petra)


I guess we'll be seeing more of these visits around Jordan now that Ramadan has begun, visits to schools, mosques, orphanages, iftar parties etc.
 
State visit to the Netherlands

King Abdullah and Queen Rania will be making a state visit to the Netherlands from October 30 - November 2 of this year. The visit was originally planned for last year but was postponed due to the bombings in Amman.

I just read in the newspaper that KA,QR and P.Hussien,friday night had Sohour( a late meal (which is taken usually in Ramdan), in a traditional small restaurent in "old amman" called Hashem (which is a very well known place here (it's been in business since 1952!) but a simple and a very very traditional one too). that offers Hommos,foul&falafel etc.etc., I thought that was a nice gesture of them to be btw all those simple people. but Al-rai Newspaper pissed me off,they put details on the news but they made it sound weird,they are Suck-ups,I don't think KA went there so a newspaper like alrai would write all that about it,he wanted to be there to show people that he cares for them and wants to be among them wherever they are,adn wanted to eat what they eat and drink what they drink! I wish Alrai didn't put it the way it did. I loved and respected what KA did.

That sounds really lovely. Thank you for telling us.

I've read articles before of them visiting restaurants in Amman and it's quite refreshing to read that they can do such things.

That was the tale of Mohammed Reza Shah Pahlavi, the pro-American ruler of Iran whose ouster ushered in the reign of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini and three decades of Islamic rule.

Its seems long time that i don t see them together but they do now. Good timing.
 
King Abdullah and Queen Rania appeared together most recently during the visit to the US, at more than one event.
