Jordan has a new film school

Hollywood on the Red Sea

As a young prince, King Abdullah of Jordan piloted a helicopter that flew Steven Spielberg over Petra’s ancient ruins so the Hollywood director could find locations for Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade.

The experience led to a friendship and, more than 20 years later, the King of Jordan approached Mr Spielberg, one of the most powerful men in the entertainment world, to help in launching a graduate film school that is aiming to change the staid face of Arab cinema by training a young generation of film-makers.

The Red Sea Institute of Cinematic Arts, set against a dramatic backdrop of mountains in the resort town of Aqaba, 350 kilometres from the capital of Amman, opened its doors in September for the first class of students working towards a two-year master’s degree in fine arts.

Queen Rania honours winners of ‘Mama’s Story’ competition

AMMAN (JT) - Her Majesty Queen Rania on Thursday honoured Jordanian mothers who participated in the “Mama’s Story” contest.
Launched last year on the occasion of Mother’s Day, the competition encourages mothers and grandmothers to document stories narrated to their children and grandchildren in an effort to keep the Kingdom’s storytelling culture and heritage alive.

. . . The first “Mama’s Story” book will also be published this year featuring 50 women’s stories including those submitted by the five winners: Manal Al Qaramsrh, Fidaa Al Zemr, Amani Al Kilani, Nawal Al Masri and Um Mohammad Al Sarhan.

Under the auspices of Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah launched the National Task Force for the club, popular folklore Cherkezia Cobán events theatrical dance presentation sword of peace which lasts for three days starting from Wednesday night in the eighth in the schools of the International Academy.
