Summary of article in Billed Bladet #41, 2015.
Written by John Lautrup.
On the occasion of the public service channel DR1's news section turning 50, BB has compiled a number of anecdotes from journalists and cameramen over the years. In this particular article a cameraman named Bent Paulsen. Three of them is about the DRF.
The first is from back when Queen Ingrid turned 70.

That lead to a portrait of her being made. The footage took some four days and at some point Queen Ingrid was asked to do some needlework for the camera.
Fine, she started embroidering and became completely lost in her favorite pass time. Completely oblivious to the journalist saying: "Thank you, that's it". In fact it lasted a while, while the crew waited, until Queen Ingrid returned to the real world.

The second anecdote is from 1969, when then Princess Margrethe and Prince Henrik were on an official visit to Nepal.
At some point a photographer, Bent Paulsen, was tapped on the shoulder. It was PH: "Sorry to disturb you, but there is something I'd very much ike to ask you".
Sure.
"You see, my problem is that Margrethe gave me a film-camera for Christmas and I think it's a lot of fun to film. But Margrethe says my films are unbearably to watch.
I've noticed how you work when you film for TV and I have also seen your excellent reports from our previous journeys. Now I wonder if you would teach me a little about how to film, and what it is I'm doing wrong"?
And so he did.
A few months later they met again at Amalienborg where they were to record an interview with PH:
"The journalist who was to conduct the interview had only been employed with the News for a short while. On the way in the car to Amalienborg, the journalist started telling us how to behave, when we arrived at the palace. The soundman winked at me and smiled discreetly.
After having checked sound and lights the lackey was told that we were ready and a few minutes later Prince Henrik came in the door. The journalist bowed deeply and readied himself for a royal handhake. At the same time Prince Henrik spotted me and walked right past the journalist with outstretched arms: - Thank you for the last time, it was a lovely trip to Nepal. And thank you for your help with you teaching the ABC of filming. It's not as easy as I thought, but Margrethe now think my films have improved a lot. - The journalist didn't say a word when we later drove back to the news studio".
The third story is back from 1972.

Now for an interview at Amalienborg with the new Regent Couple.
"Both Prince Frederik and Prince Joachim had a cold when we were to record the show. Each time Margrethe should wipe the noses of the kids I had to stop the camera and wait to start again, until everyone was ready.
In the meantime I got these unique still-shots with my own camera".
Later on, in 1984, in connection with some interviews prior to PH turning 50, Bent Paulsen brought along the photos and presented them to PH.

This was the year three giggling boys in the shape of Nikolai, Felix and Christian got hold of the microphone and made their own somewhat unauthorized announcement.
Oh do tell :) I assume everyone laughed and they made a great family memory?

Well, it happened when everyone was waiting for the riders to approach the pond. That's the favorite among the audience because usually a rider or two fall off into the water. Anyway, the path stretched for several kilometers so it takes a while for the riders to get there.
While that happened the microphone used by the announcer at the hunt was left unattended and this is where Christian, Felix and Nikolai came in.
First the audience could here boys giggling through the loudspeakers, then some talking no one could hear, before Nikolai's voice was heard: "Thanks to everyone who has come here today, we are standing here waiting to see the horses jump into the water. That's it for today". And then someone must have stepped in.
The journalist, Ulrik Ulriksen, describes it as one of the highlights of the day, so I guess people laughed.

It's the time of year again. A new year is looming in the horizon.
So here is the BB DRF-calendar 2016.
There is a seriously beautiful picture of Dannebrog.

And here are five pictures I found in a gallery somewhere.

Here we have Princess Margrethe back in 1959.
Not sure what ball it was, but QMII has said herself that Queen Ingrid made she sure she was introduced to suitable young men around that age. Princess Margrethe didn't appreciate it though...

Here QMII and Queen Ingrid unveiled a statue of Frederik IX back in 1972.
https://app.box.com/s/tj2uxfawm4q9xee8ghtr4cmqdwz5gwxi
Here Frederik IX and Queen Ingrid receive King Haakon when he arrived for Christian X's birthday back in 1945 or 47. Christian X was semi invalid after a fall from a horse during the Occupation and was probably unable to come down to the harbor himself.

Here Crown Prince Frederik say goodbye to King Haakon after the birthday celebrations of Christian X.

Christian X on his daily ride through the streets of Copenhagen in 1942, being a living rallying point for the Danes. And by then even hardcore socialists showed their respect for the king as the national symbol.
Notice that he rides unescorted. - There is a story about a German soldier asking a Dane who was protecting the king. He couldn't see anyone. - The reply was: "We are".

You are welcome Eya & Polyesco.
Here is the yearly mini-review of the DRF 2015 from BB. They also issue a booklet but I don't expect to buy that.

Enjoy the pic of PH in a swing. You don't see that many 81 year-olds do that.
There is also a great pic of Benedikte.

Thanks for your efforts Muhler, I really enjoy seeing these HQ photos.
BTW the photo of king Christian X in 1942 is such a poignant one, even if you don't know the exact context you can see it's a special moment.

You are welcome.
Yes, Christian X was a fascinating man.
Army man to the bone, arch-conservative and a bit grumpy. Most of the family were daunted by him, except for the crown princess Ingrid. She could wrap him around her finger.
Not particularly popular, yet he ended up being a living rallying point.
Despite him being so conservative and absolutely loathing politicians, he ended up forming what was close to a friendship with the (most of the time) PM, Thorvald Stauning, who to this day is the very definition of being a Social Democrat. - Since then all Social Democrat politicians have had wet dreams about being compared to Stauning (it was very much Stauning who formed the Danish welfare society) but only one has come close.

It has crossed my mind that Fred chose a wife that was more like his grandmother (Queen Ingrid) than his mother.
I don't know why but it got my attention, in a good way, that Crown Prince/King Frederick would greet Crown Princess/Queen Ingrid with husbandly kisses as opposed the royal double cheek kiss, @0:28 and 2:05 in the videos below.
@0:00-0:15 will be Mary and one of her daughters.
@0:11 Poor Benedikte but

The historical photos are very interesting, Muhler. Thank you for posting them.
I also think there is a physical resemblance between Queen Ingrid and Mary - the high cheekbones, the striking eyes.
Speaking of resemblances, in the second video, whoever the baby girl is on the King's lap, I can see a similarity to little Athena.

Interesting that you say that! I also thought so many times comparing the 2 ladies! Of course Frederik didn´t chose a wife by purpose, thinking "I only marry a girl looking like my granny", but it´s something unconscious deep down in ones psyche. And Queen Ingrid was a very important, integral part of his life during his childhood and youth (similar to the Prince of Wales and the Queen Mother)
