Danish Royal Family Pictures, Part 1

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
One thing that comes to mind when seeing such wonderful pictures of the Danish royal family is that the perfect caption for any gallery of this family should bear the simple title of "Happy and Glorious". Perhaps its stems from the Grand Matriarch of the family who has such a refreshing zest for life and everything around her so much that its contagious.

I especially loved the picture of the dance. So royal and so romantic and so warm between a mother and her son. :D

Yes, QMII does seem pretty happy these days. Or perhaps more like she's no longer carrying a burden/responsibility anymore. - Certainly not alone.
Her gait is lighter, so to speak.

CAUTION: Sensitive persons may wish to skip this gallery as QMII is depicted in her favorite raincoat!
I love that coat :web::wub::wub: She can be seen, so the coat is doing its job properly :ROFLMAO::flowers::ROFLMAO:

I found this nice little photo I can't recall having seen before: http://www.danmarksbilleder.dk/03.jpg
I doubt M&F's noses were actually touching though. - Don't know what it is with women and noses. :ermm: My wife early on developed the habit of putting her finger on my nose, :glare::huh: when she want's to end a discussion. Invariably with her (naturally) being in the right... :p

Very Nice photo. (Lol Nice habit) [emoji23][emoji1360]

A new portrait of Prince Philip has been released to mark his retirement. In it, he is wearing the Order of the Elephant, which is a nice nod to his Danish ancestry. You can see it at royalcentral.co.uk

BB's mini-DRF review for 2017 is here and I thought you might like to see it:

https://app.box.com/s/uinkpzlbn1ng120w19193nxyq9xtoqek

The topics are:
The Regent Couple's golden anniversary.
First day at school for three of the DRF children and a certain George.
Felix' confirmation.
PH suffering from dementia.
M&F traveling together.
Nikolai turning 18.
Happy times in the SRF.
The death of Prince Richard.
The summer cruises aboard Dannebrog.
The DRF children.
The New Year Courts.
A good year for Mary.
Happy marriage for Joachim and our Marie.
Gråsten.
The celebration of Frederik are being prepared.
And finally the IMO best picture in the whole appendix.

In the summer of 1945 an American war-photographer, Lee Miller, went to the liberated Denmark for a month and here she took a lot of photos. Also of members of the DRF, including a little Princess Margrethe.

Unfortunately Lee Miller was so severely affected by what she had seen during the war (PTSD was not a diagnosis then) that 60.000 negatives by her were kept in a box in her attic.
They were only found after her death in 1977.

Now around 100 of these photos, from her stay in DK, are being exhibited.

A photo from 1954, where Princesses Margrethe, Benedikte and Anne-Marie were bridesmaids at their governess, Mary North's, wedding.
The ID of the two other girls is unknown.

A second photo, here only with the three Princesses and their governess: https://www.billedbladet.dk/sites/b...6-9_8grid/public/media/article/sh-83054_0.jpg

- The governess looks intelligent, but stern to me.
In regards to QMII's mastery of English and her fondness for certain English traditions, that I think can be shared equally between Queen Ingrid and this lady here.

Great pictures thank you for posting them Muhler

I'll leave it to the mods to decide whether this site should be added to the collection of links.
Per Brunsgård fra Tim ved Ringkøbing DK

It's a site by an amateur photographer named Per Brunsgaard, who for many years has traveled around DK a number of times each year in order to take photos of the DRF. (QMII seems to be his favorite.) As such it's a funny little site where you can take a walk down memory lane.

For those who are especially interested, he writes that you can contact him for access to his archive in case there is something particular, you are interested in. - That may be of interest for those who write blogs or wish to illustrate an article about an event that took place perhaps many years ago.

Anyway, take a look yourselves.

Christmas is near and that means books about the DRF are being published.
This time a photobook by Henrik Hildebrandt, who for 35 years photographed the DRF at various events.
Some of these hitherto unpublished photos have been compiled in a book.

Let's go to the actual photos:
Here a photo of PH at a movie premiere from 1982.
https://bt.bmcdn.dk/media/cache/resolve/image_1240/image/122/1229219/22495975-1.jpg

QMII at the same premiere:
https://bt.bmcdn.dk/media/cache/resolve/image_1240/image/122/1229220/22495978-2.jpg

And Frederik and Joachim also at the premiere:
https://bt.bmcdn.dk/media/cache/resolve/image_1240/image/122/1229225/22496013-7.jpg

The photographer has tried to take pictures of the DRF in, or in poses that resemble day to day situations.
He says: "If I am to pick my favorite members of the DRF, it must be Marie and Mary. They glow and are good at being relaxed. That results in good pictures."

Mary is here pregnant with Christian:
https://bt.bmcdn.dk/media/cache/resolve/image_1240/image/122/1229221/22495991-3.jpg
"I don't know why I'm so crazy about this photo. Her hair has been laid up. I don't know if that's it. She looks very relaxed and happy. Natural."

Joachim and a shy Athena on her first day at school:
https://bt.bmcdn.dk/media/cache/resolve/image_1240/image/122/1229226/22496028-8.jpg
The photographer at some point met Joachim at a festival and asked for a photo, and a somewhat skeptical Joachim needed a little instruction in how to pose so that he would look natural.
But he was eventually invited inside their private home.
"He's surely/no doubt a real fine and nice guy, when you get to know him privately."

Here Christian is telling Bella how to behave!
https://bt.bmcdn.dk/media/cache/resolve/image_1240/image/122/1229223/22496006-5.jpg
"They are quite ordinary people. It was at the chirstening of the twins and then Christian step in as the older brother, just as you would see in many other families."

As you know QMII and PH never worked out how to walk arm in arm.
Here at Isabella's christening:

The book is called: Kongehuset i det nye artusinde. = The DRF in the new millennium. By Henrik Hildebrandt.
In case you are interested.
You can find it here: https://www.saxo.com/dk/kongehuset-i-det-nye-aartusind_henrik-hildebrandt_hardback_9788771712988
234 pager, hardcover. The price is reasonable for such a book and the price is like to drop further in january.

I found these delightful photos of PH visiting the small island of Tunø.
PH used to visit the island privately each summer during the annual Jazz Festival there.
That was very much appreciated by the locals and he was able to mingle freely with everyone he met, as was his fashion.
But as you can tell not every summer is sunny here in DK...

DANISH HISTORY in a nutshell:
The Danish Royal House may be traced back to Gorm the Old and his son Harald I Bluetooth.
The two great lines of the Danish Royal House are the House of Oldenborg and the House of Glücksborg.
The first representative of the House of Oldenborg became King in 1448, and the last King of the House of Oldenborg was King Frederik VII, as he had no heir to the throne.
In 1863, the first representative of the House of Glücksborg became King, and the present Royal Family are direct descendants of this Royal House.

Yes actually, because Helena of Denmark, a Danish princess who was a direct descendant of Gorm the old, married William of Winchester, the son of Henry the Lion, and she became an ancestress to the house of Brandenburg, and an agnatical ancestor to George I of Great Britain, ana ancestor to the Danish line through Christian IX and Queen Victoria

Today is the fourth of July. A date of particular significance to Americans.

The day is of course also celebrated outside USA. But the only place outside USA where the day have been celebrated each year for more than a hundred years, except for an - ahem - intermission from 1942-44, is in Denmark.

In Rebild Hills in North Jutland to be exact. Since 1912.
The celebration is organized by the Rebild Society and there is a considerable attendance by Danish-Americans and Americans of Danish descend.
Apart from various entertainment, there are speeched by prominent Danish-Americans, the US ambassador and often senior US politicians. Richard Nixon, when he was vice-President was there, as well as Ronald Reagan, while he was still governor of California.
And some years QMII gives the main speech.

Here are some photos of the celebrations, the weather is not always this sunny though - like today...

And QMII, she does have a history of tripping at Rebild. The terrain is not the easiest.

M&F drive close by Rebild Hills on the way to and from Trend, so I'm sure they have been there several times.

And more ominous. Deeper in the forests there is REGAN West. The bunker where Frederik was to be taken should a nuclear war have been imminent.
It is now a Cold War museum.
But there is another bunker further south...

The reason Christain I got on the throne was because of his mother who could claim descent from Valdemar I and Valdemar II many times. Her husban also did but not as much
