Danish Royal Family Christmas: 2003, 2004, 2006-2014, 2016-2023

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
At around 15.30 the whole family will enter the cars in order to drive to Aarhus Cathedral for the Christmas service at 16.00. That'll last a little less than an hour. QMII will usually stay for communion and perhaps Mary and Marie will remain with her. The rest will go back to Marselisborg with the children.
Is there communion at Aarhus Cathedral on Christmas Eve? Usually there´s no communion in the service on Christmas Eve - just the 3-4 hymns, a lecture (prædiken) from the priest and it´s over :)

Tak Muhler! Lovely to get some insight as to what is likely happening with the family on Christmas day. Do you think that Pere Henrik has introduced a few French customs to the family as well?

Then it may be on the First Day of Christmas? I remember clearly that certainly Mary, but probably our Marie as well stayed behind for communion. While the menfolks and children left.

You are welcome. :)
I'm sure PH, Marie and Mary have introduced something. If not on Christmas Eve then something else during the three days of Christmas.

Yes, the services on 1st and 2nd day of Christmas has communion :)

We saw the Queen and the Crown Prince Family. (ballet and hunt)
No Prince Henrik , Prince Joachim and Marie.
I this year hope they will be to-gether for Chrismas

:previous: And standing next to Josephine... That could be lively!

Grandpapa with Disney figures on his tie. Perfect.
And as usual the Regent Couple simply cannot figure out how to walk arm in arm.

What a great tie [emoji23][emoji1362]

It's a shame there are hardly any pictures to this event which all the family has attended.
QM & PH look happy as ever.

These are only pictures.
Nobody knows what happens behind the doors.

I love Henrik tie :D

Great to see the entire family involved, I assume Nikolai is still at boarding school and not home yet fir the holidays.

Disappointing there aren't more photos of the event.

BB informs us this week that the Christmas tree-rug seen in the M&F photos is a wedding present from 2004.
It was handmade by a Ellen Majgaard Bjerre, who haven't seen the rug in use since then, so she was delighted when she saw the recent photos.

And as someone else pointed out, the star and the candle-holders are indeed from Georg Jensen. They are gilded and designed by Flemming Eskildsen.

Is there a regularity in the big christmas holiday of Margrethe and her sisters with their families at Fredensborg?

:previous: Don't think so.
It's IMO more a question on being able to drum the whole extended family together, probably at least with a couple of years warning.

:previous: Nice traveling by train. Hope they have some nice days with their family, including all 8 lively grand-kids:flowers:

BB is pretty thin this week DRF-wise!

They only write about two things of interest, and very little...

As you may recall the DRF hosted a reception at Christiansborg for their staff, employees and various associates.
Every two years this event takes place in the Great/Knights Hall at Christiansborg and this year some 450 guests were there.
The event that lasted a couple of hours included entertainment by Sankt Annæ Girls Choir, who did a Lucia procession. The singer Mø and ballet dancers, who performed a scene from Cinderella.

Apart from Benedikte and Nikolai the entire DRF was there. The adults mingled with the guests while at least some of the children at times were allowed to run around and play. - I see in one of the photos that Athena stood close to Josephine - who no doubt enjoyed not being the youngest girl around.

- While the younger members of the DRF mingle, PH and QMII sat at each round table and then various guests are selected and sit around the table for some minutes while they chat a little.
A see in a photo that a representative for the conscripts serving at Dannebrog was also invited and joined QMII's table.

I like that idea that QM and PH have an opportunity to meet with the guests while seated comfortably. BTW was anyone else surprised that PH was in attendance? I certainly was surprised to see him.

To be honest, I wasn't surprised one bit. Although I'm just "getting to know" Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik, one thing I've noticed about Henrik is that he's very much a social butterfly type and loves a good time and a party. He was probably in his element at that reception. :D

;) He does appear to be enjoying himself immensely at this event. Love that he wore the Disney tie and his younger grandchildren probably liked it as well.

QMII has told Ritzau, the news agency, about the DRF celebrate Christmas. (At least when she is the host).

"I's nice that we can all gather at the same time, so that I look very much forward to. It'll be cozy and fun.
One is very much into traditions. There must be rice-porridge, and there must be duck. In my family we have never eaten risalamande, (*) We eat rice-porridge. And in there is the almond. And there is of course an almond-present to the one who gets the almond.
(There is no such thing as ensuring the children gets the almond in the DRF)
It has to be genuine. That's also how it was when I was a child. There was only one almond, and there was no cheating. It could be my father or one of us children who got it. That was down to chance, and that's how we have always done it. I actually think both my sons found that fun and exciting when they were children.
(The present are often homemade).
As children we certainly always made the presents ourselves, more or less. When I was little I painted hangers (to hang clothes on), that was something practical. And it's not a few hangers that were painted, when I was a child, that I remember.
I have also done it as an adult (made homemade presents). That could for example be something I have embroidered".

What a wonderful picture! Two very proud grandparents!

From what I've read recently in Muhler's post that relates just how the Danish royal family celebrates Christmas, I have to think that these are very fortunate grandchildren to have the grandparents they do.

There is a lot of family involvement into the traditions even to the point of making their own presents for each other. Its just so personal that way. In the midst of all this, there's a grandmother that freely expresses her "inner child" whenever possible and the children are probably encouraged to be exactly who they are as children. Can't get any better than that.

Lovely family photos from the Christmas Eve Church Service.

A cozy and nice picture of Margrethe and Henrik with their grandchildren.
(Ecxept for the blurred quality)
And it does not surprise me that little Josephine stands in the middle and sends the photographer a charming smile :D

Thank Eya.
Nice pictures of the family in arriving to church.

It's obvious the heir-to-the-throne family and the Queen has close unity. And I like the symbolism in that Prince Christian always walks in front side by side with Queen Margrethe.

And I notice Princess Isabella (she grown fast) has got pierced her ears - this is the first time we see her with small beautiful earrings. Beautiful girl she is.
Christian (who also grows up so fast) has styled his hair with hair wax, I see ;) And little handsome Vincent is in his usual red pants as a daddy.

Prince Henrik followed with the big boys, I see.

Hope the family have a nice Christmas.

This morning, from Christmas Day service:

The oldest children were along.
