Doesn't the order have to be returned to the Crown on the death of the recipient?

I did watch the video again and you could see Henriks was swinging like crazy before it fell off, whereas the other three elephants( on Mary, Frederick and the Queen) looked nice and still and secure.
Also, Frederick looks completely tired and uninterested. Hope its just winter blues!!!

I can add that a few have been lost over the years.
The order in the possession of Nicolae Ceauşescu is among those that have been lost.
I believe that there are more than 40 orders around, some of them very old.
All the adult members of the DRF have one and I guess the next to recieve one will be Nikolai. Probably on his eigthteenth birthday.

Thanks for the links. The New Year events are always interesting for so many different reasons, love the tradition, the men in their uniforms and the beautiful ladies in their gowns and jewels.
Muhler, can you please help with a couple of questions?
At what age would Christian start attending the New Year events?
Would he attend all events from the beginning?
Also Isabella at what age would she start attending? I guess she would only attend the first event.
Nikolai, would it be expected that he attend the New Year events?
Thanks

I shall try.
If we assume that M&F have become the regent couple by the time Christian turn eighteen, he will attend the same courts as M&F do now, in their capacity as the CP-couple. Christian will be crown prince by then.
Provided that M&F maintain the current tradition, and why shouldn't they?
I presume that Isabella will start to attend the courts at eighteen as well. And just like Nikolai she will attend the court on the 1st January. - So Bella will be the belle of the ball in, what is it? Fourteen years from now?

Muhler, once again thanks for your quick response and for always being so kind and helpful
Looking foward to the day we see Isabella in her first tiara, although not wishing she grow up so quickly.
In 20 years time the numbers of royals attending the New Year event could be triple the number that attended this year.

Is the Queen wearing the same outfit she wore yesterday? This is very strange to me, has she done this before?

I dont want to start any rumours but in most of the pictures today and yesterday (and looking back not only there) Frederik looks like he is severely depressed or about to cry.
If the mods think this should be deleted or discussed elsewhere, feel free but its so obvious when looking at the pictures, it makes me think whether he has some serious personal problems going on, especially at those constitutional functions his expression is all over "get me out of here".

I haven't noticed his expressions. I've been too busy staring at his gray hair.

I have noticed that, as well. I hope everything is alright and there aren't any problems going on. Health or personal-wise.

Severely depressed?? You can't be serious? Don't you think you are exaggerating?
Every year there are similar photos where the members of the DRF are standing there, listening to speeches, looking solemn/tired/bored/like someone who has a hangover etc etc. Similar photos can be seen during state visits, during speeches.
Maybe it is a boring event after having attended them for 25 years...

Yes...even before his marriage...he had that kind of expression on his face...the annual opening of parliament is another one.
He looked good and smiling during the first New Year's Court but then he didn't have to stand for hours and greet long lines of people...and there was a sit-down dinner as well.

Remember, the long meet and greet starts at Amalienborg palace...and continues at Christansborg Palace later in the day.
Crown Prince Frederik clearly does not enjoy this ceremonial standing for hours and greeting people. He strikes me as someone who likes to be 'moving' and 'doing' something during official engagements...I'm not sure if I'm making myself clear?

Don't we get anymore photos from inside the event? Where the royal family greet the guests.

Yes the Queen wears the some outfit to both Courts at Christiansborg. And since around 10 years it's the same blue one. Before she wore one in the same style but in yellow.

I haven't had a chance to look at every picture, but I really didn't think he looked depressed in any that I've seen. However, I would believe the "get me out of here" expression. He doesn't seem to particularly enjoy these events.

I don't think anyone would enjoy such an event as they are always the SAME! This is probably why the entire Royal Family have worn the same dresses/uniforms this year in silent protest! Bring on the excitement I say!
