Danish New Year Courts: 2004, 2006-2021, 2023, 2024

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
A few details from BB #2, about the New Year Courts.

The dress worn by our Marie was by Rikke Gudnitz. Her hair was done by Dennis Knudsen. The diamond-earrings were a present from Marie's family.

Mary's hair was done by Søren Hedegaard. Her dress at the first court was (as you probably know) by Birgit Hallstein.

QMII's dress at the first court was by Birgitte Thaulow. Her fur-cape was made from silver-fow.

At the court for the diplomatic corps, 78 diplomats with spouses attended. The doyenne Monique Ilboudo from Burkino Faso gave the speech on behalf of the diplomats and wished the DRF a Happy New Year.

QMII said in her speech: "We always look forward to this day as being exciting, because we meet people from all over the world.
In this country we try to keep informed about what is going on around the world and we try offer out contribution to ensure that the developement can go just a little step in the right direction. We hope that all the conflicts that takes place in some of your countries will find a solution in the year to come".

That means you should be able to watch it outside DK.

I believe this link should work, if you see anything you are watching DR1 live. Let me know if you can't see it: Live DR1 | TV | DR

Thanks, Muhler but I'm receiving this message:

Kanalen kan ikke afspilles

Vi er desværre begrænset til ikke at kunne afspille den nuværende udsendelse online på DR TV af rettighedshaverne. Befinder du dig udenfor Danmark eller sidder på en computer med udenlandsk ip-adresse, kan problemet også skyldes, at vi desværre ikke har rettighederne til at vise kanalen i udlandet.

The channel can not be played

Sorry, we're limited to not being able to play the current broadcast online at DR TV for authors. Do you find yourself outside Denmark or sitting at a computer with a foreign IP address, the problem may also be that we unfortunately do not have the rights to show the channel abroad.

Thanks, CPClare.

A pity, but as the transmissions starts live from 17.50 and the DRF are not expected to arrive until shortly before 19.00 there should be time enough to find a channel that can be seen outside DK.

Perhaps we, should go through the whole idea about the New Year Courts again for new members.

The concept of New Year Courts in DK was "an old custom" back in the 1600's, so no one really know when it started.
Originally it was only one New Year Court, but after WWI there were so many officials and civil servants, officers, ambassadors and what not, that it was more practical to divide the whole thing into several courts and that's how it is today.
The royal New Year Courts is actually no different than was normal for Danes back in the 1600's and before: i.e. that you visited friends, associates, business partners and not least people who could be of benefit to you or could be a kind of patron to you. And over time it would have become a tradition to do that around New Year.
So it was with royals too.

Today, on the 1st January is the grandest of the New Year courts in which the absolute top in the Danish society, i.e. the government and representatives for the various parties i the Parliament, the Presidium of the Parliament and also holders of the Order of the Elephant.
The other New Year Courts will be for diplomats and seniors civil servants as well as representatives for the Total Defence and police and so on.
It is not mandatory to attend a New Year Court, instead the invitation is open for those who belong in whatever category that fits the various New Year Courts.

A very efficient way of dealing with the many new year's greetings needed to start the year properly! A new thread might be opened: New Year Traditions. Here in Canada many cities and provinces hold 'New Year Levees', where the mayor or provincial lieutenant governor receives citizens on New Year's day to wish them all the best in the new year:flowers:

Don't worry. :)
Rest assured you'll get plenty of bling, bling. It may be delayed but it'll come.

Indeed.
And that's basically what it is here in DK as well. Just on a, ahem, grander scale and with considerably more glitter. ;)

I seem to remember that people outside of Danmark weren't able to see it live last year. Some videos of the arrival of the Royal Family came up later, but I wasn't able to see the arrival of the guests.

Who knows another link?

DR1 is airing live now from Amalienborg, so if anyone can find a working link, please post it.

There is a risk of a little rain, but right now the weather is fine, so no umbrellas needed so far.

ADDED: A little trivia:
The guests are led into a chamber after arriving and here they wait until the DRF is in place in an room next door. The guests are led in and can wish the DRF Happy New Year. Then, and only once a year, Her Mejesty curtsey to her guests as an appreciation for the work done her guests (primarily the government (ha!)) in the previous year, but also as a sign of respect of the democracy represented by the Presidium of the Parliament and the party leaders.

ADDED:

The dress code is Gala A. I.e. the finest. That means uniforms for those who are entitled to wear one and long gowns for the ladies, a tux for the gentlemen. Medals and orders are to be worn.

Just saw Tanja Doky arrive, she looked very neat!

-------

On this occasion gloves are mandatory.

The plates and utensils for the taffel (gala dinner/galatable) are made from silver. Silverplates have the advantage that they are less noisy than plates made from porcelain.
There are however also twelve sets of utensils made from gold and they are used as this is such a special and grand occasion. However, they are divided according to rank. The DRF first and the rest to those lower down the ranks. I.e. civilian holders of the Order of the Elephant, the Chairman of the Parliament, the PM and so on.

At the dinner, the Rosenborg Wine will be served. The wine, which is considered an "experience rather than a treat", dates back to around 1600, albeit slightly diluted by now.
It is estimated that there are wine enough for additional 300 New Year Courts.

The DRF are scheduled to start arriving in twenty minutes now.

---------------

The government members are arriving.

Upon entering the mansion, Joachim, then Frederk and finally QMII will inspect the honor guard standing inside.

---------------

Joachim and our Marie have arrived. Joachim, being the man he is, naturally salutes before shaking hands.

---------

M&F arriving. Mary in a new dress says the commentators, with a cape-like thing on top.

----------------

The Regent Couple arriving. Drummers and fifers are playing the Color March as a salute.
PH in civillian, presumably to avoid "friendly fire" accidents from flying bottons...

For me the link worked last year but this year it doesn't. Pity.

...white tie

Marie appears to be wearing the dress she wore to Madeleine's wedding!

looks like a brand new gorgeous white dress for Mary!

and Daisy is wearing her forest green lace dress with the Emeralds.

some great screengrabs on Royal Watcher: The Royal Watcher

Mary is the only one wearing a new dress. I love all three dresses very much! They all look fantastic!

I wonder how Princess Elisabeth arrives?

Yes, princess Marie in recycling gown from Princess Madeleine's wedding.

CP Mary in a new (finally ;) ) beautiful white gown! Unfortunately, she had her black cape on, would wish we could have seen more of the gown.

Queen Margrethe in her dark green dress and big fur cloak. Recycling I think.

I can't but feel a bit sorry for them that they never can just relax on the 1th January :D

They all look great tonight!

First picture of Mary and Frederik:
It's the first time since 2010 we see a new gown on Mary for New Year's Banquet.

Again, the continental royals know what they're doing at events like this. They always look regal, royal and modern, and they don't mind letting the people see them in that manner.

Beautiful pictures.

As usual, I so look forward to seeing these New Year events with the Danish Royal Family - the family are very modern, forward thinking and approachable, yet carry off these traditional events in the most royal way, thus cleverly mixing modern and tradition with great ease.

The above link contains photos of the Danish New Court 2015.

Those are the same photos that have been posted, which also includes a screencap I took and posted on my tumblr as well as the photos that Royal Watcher screengrabbed.

I don't speak Russian, but I'm willing to bet they didn't give credit.

Please, will everyone check to see what others have posted before posting the same stuff again? It's very frustrating to see the same photos being posted again and again.

ETA: BB has a nice photo of Mary & Fred: http://www.billedbladet.dk/kongelig...onprinsesse-mary-gjorde-lykke-paa-amalienborg

I agree. I just like the way they do things.

I love this time of year when the New Years Courts are in full swing. What's not to like to see the men dressed up in uniform and the bling and beautiful gowns worn by the ladies.
These royals must have great discipline when it comes to food. They just finished with Christmas feasting and now have to eat rich food again during the New Years Courts. No wonder Mary runs/jogs to burn off all the calories consumed. I imagine Prss Marie has a some gym/exercise equipment she uses at home. Or perhaps she has a naturally friendly metabolism.
