Alexandra, Countess of Frederiksborg's Charities and Patronages

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Yeah, well, Alexandra simply landed a good deal and her apanage has grown since it's index-regulated, while Mary "only" (and on paper) gets 10 % of M&F's combined apanage..

I read that Alexandra's apanage is also bigger than the salary of the PM of Denmark...

I read that Alexandra's apanage is also bigger than the salary of the PM of Denmark...

It is, but the PM has an expense account and a number of additional expenses are covered by the party and other things are at a lower rate, not to mention that his pension is very generous indeed, so it's difficult to make a direct comparison.
However if I should make an estimate, Alexandra's income from investments, salary from being members of boards and the apanage should easily surpass that of the current PM.
So a qualified guess from me would be that Alexandra is a comfortable millionaire. So comfortable that the only work she needs to do, is to be a member of the boards she already is a member of, in order to live a very comfortable higher middle-class life without seriously eroding her fortune.

That's more than I believe would be the case for M&F. I doubt very much they would be able to maintain their current lifestyle only on their investments. Even a higher middle-class lifestyle would be a problem.

I emphasize again: this is a qualified guess only.

The sympathy for Alexandra seems to be falling and now it's getting serious.
Venstres ligestillingsordfører: Tag apanagen fra Alexandra – Ekstra Bladet

The spokesman on the gender-equality for the Liberals, which is the government party and right wing, Jacob-Engel Schmidt has spoken on radio about Alexandra's apanage.

He said: "The normal thing is that you as liberal (right wing) don't say anything negative about the DRF. But I have to say that I simply don't comprehend it.
We are I suppose in a situation where we have to look at it. It cannot be right that you earn 2.3 million DKK a year by doing nothing. If it was up to me it was cancelled at the next Finance Act".

It that something the party is behind?
JES: "We actually haven't discussed it. That we'll have to ascertain".

To Ekstra Bladet he confirms what he said and add: "If you rank the top 500 subjects, this is among the last on my list".

He also adds that he respect the way QMII dispose of the apanage.

---

Interesting!

Even though Jacob-Engel Schmidt (who is a "debate-terrier") doesn't rank high on the party list, he is still an MP and a party-spokesman.
There is no way a minister would say anything about this, because then it become government-policy, but this is a notch below. A trial-balloon perhaps or perhaps rather a hint to Alexandra?

I place this here because this comes after the interview, which turned out to backfire on Alexandra and after her more or less sudden goodbye as patron for UNICEF.

I don't think the Parliament will suddenly decide to strip her of her apanage. That would be a very unusual move indeed since practically all parties voted in favor, as they usually do when the government wish to pass legislation regarding or rather on behalf of the DRF.
But is sure is a pretty vocal call for Alexandra to "voluntarily" give up at least a part of her apanage.

Alex cannot expect to be loved by the Danes by continuing to accept the apanage and doing nothing in return. Nicolai already left the house, Felix won't last much longer either.

So if Alexandra-shaming is starting now, well she has to live with it. It's her decision not to work, to give private interviews etc.

It is difficult for me to feel pity for Alexandra's, Countess of Frederiksborg, situation. It would be fair to say that she disappointed royal watchers and Danes by making short-sighted impulsive decisions. Debates about the high apanage she has should not come as a surprise.

Another MP for the Liberals have come out and commented on Alexandra's apanage: Apanage-opgør: Ny Venstre-mand vil fjerne Alexandras støtte – Ekstra Bladet

This time the party-spokesman for EU-issues, Jan E. Jørgensen, is is quoted for saying: "When the Princes have grown up, it sure is difficult to argue in favor of her still getting an apanage - particularly of that size".

Still, not a heavyweight within the party, but still an MP and a member of the government party.
However, yesterday a Conservative MP, Rasmus Jarlow, came out defending Alexandra, or rather he thought the things said were nothing but populism. - (Which probably contains a good deal of truth.)

So that cat is getting out of the bag.

Personally I'm surprised that somebody who had their own successful career like Alex did before her marriage would be happy going on for ever living off the State. Its clear she still can command fair (in fact above fair) pay for sitting on boards of companies so for all this fuss and negative headlines would it not be better for her to go out and pick up a few more days work for large companies.

Agree.

I understand she is currently writing a book on business ethics. Perhaps she plans to give lectures?
4-8 such lectures a month should easily give her a monthly income of around 100.000 DKK. And multiplied by twelve that's half her current apanage.
Provided of course people would be interested. But why not? She is in no way stupid or incompetent, on the contrary in fact.
And a seat or two more on a board and she would hardly feel the loss of the apanage.

It's hard to understand. The DRF & Alexandra tried to part in good ways, she got an apanage, could even keep some serious jewellery.
Something must have happened, I think the DRF now want distance from Alex after Martin and the bad publicity, I mean the DRF is so well connected and Alex is qualified, they could have gotten Alex a job at Lego or Maersk, the same way other royal houses take care of in-laws etc. That would solve the problem with the apanage too now that the boys have grown up.

:previous: Well, so many thing would be better if done in hindsight. ;)

Opgør slået ned: Venstre-top freder Alexandras apanage – Ekstra Bladet

The two MPs from the Liberals, who spoke about Alexandra's apanage, are officially on their own.
The equivalent to the chief-whip, Jakob Ellemann-Jensen says: "The Liberals have no current plans about changing the rules for or the distribution of the apanage".

In a text-message to Ekstra Bladet, Jakob Ellemann declines to comment further: "I present the Liberals official view/stance. I cannot relate to the personal opinions in individual issues of all members".

She's not making it easier for herself, I'll say that. I can understand that she is hurt and possibly also still sad about the break-up (and that can make you do irrational things), but I think this whole interview-extravaganza was a gigantic blunder on Alexandra's part. It's never pretty when people air their dirty laundry in public and instead of doing that, she should have let Martin's recent announcement that he is indeed dating the woman he is presumed to have cheated on Alexandra's with speak for itself – that would have gained her a lot more sympathy from the general public.

Alexandra får 2,3 mio. om året: Nu har hun lånt stort beløb til lækker bil

Alexandra is often in the news these days and it usually isn't good PR. This is yet another example.

BT writes (based on a story from the gossip mag, Se & Hør) that Alexandra has bought a new car, an Audi A4 Avant 2.0.
She made a down payment for 122.000 DKK and borrowed 489.133 DKK for the total cost.
That means the car in total costs some 600.000 DKK. - Tax on cars is extremely high in DK!

Since the article also mention her apanage, the intention of the article is naturally to appall the readers. But loans are tax-deductible. So it would be unwise of her to pay cash, even is she probably could.

It's a car like this she's bought: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipe...Avant_Ambition_S_line_2.0_TDI_Daytonagrau.JPG

- Fair is fair and in this case I think this is an unfair article.
But it is an example of Alexandra continuing to get bad press.

Thank you, Iceflower :flowers:

Summary of article in Billed Bladet #47, 2017.
Written by Henrik Salling.

Countess Alexandra took a leading role at the recent charity concert for the Parkinson Association
In fact she took center stage and sang solo for the audience.

In fact she was very nervous before going on stage. She's used to giving speeches, but to sing in front of an audience that's a new experience for her!
That also included singing a duet with an opera singer.
But she did fine.

Alexandra explained the Parkinsons is the fastest growing neurological decease in the world and it is estimated that by 2014 some 14 million people worldwide will suffer from the decease.
Present was also her friend and hairdresser, Dennis Knudsen.

:previous: Nice that Nikolai can enjoy some home cooking for the weekend. It's nice that Nikolai and Felix have both continued this event with their mom.

Thanks, Iceflower.

Yes, all other hospitals in Aarhus municipality as well as a number of regional hospitals have been moved to the super-hospital at Skejby. Known as Skejby Sygehus (hospital) or more internationally Aarhus University Hospital.
The very last wards are being moved in these months, making the hospital the largest in DK.
With a total of 20.000 employees and students, but excluding patients, Aarhus University Hospital will be the 32th largest "town" in DK.

Altogether six super-hospitals are planned here in DK over the next couple of decades.
Covering the entire country, each hospital will have specialists and specialist equipment to deal with any illness, except the more obscure cases.

The remaining hospitals still around are destined to be phased out and eventually be converted into hospices and local medical centers for GP's and more routine cases, like control and preparations in connection with pregnancies. - And that regardless of what local politicians may say...
These local hospitals simply can't attract qualified doctors and nurses and they are not equipped to deal with anything but the most routine cases, like uncomplicated fractures.
Many deplore this. Personally I prefer to be around the best doctors and the best treatment when I get anywhere near a hospital!

Tonight, Saturday, Alexandra sang her new song at a charity concert in Malmö, Sweden.

https://www.bt.dk/royale/grevinde-alexandra-til-danskerne-slap-dog-af

After the performance, which was not to be covered by the press, Alexandra gave an improvised press meeting.
She was a little nervous initially and she feared forgetting the lyrics, performing for some 1.200 people.

In the press conference she also commented on the reception her single had received in the public, perhaps especially by the press. (Some music critics massacred her song and performance.) Pointing out that she is after all only an amateur and not a professional singer, she's not embarking on a career as a singer, it's a song for charity, so "cool it!"

Present were also her two sons, her stylist (who is also our Marie's stylist, hairdresser and personal friend) Dennis Knudsen and a couple of assistants.

I guess someone is bound to have recorded the performance and we will find it somewhere on the Net soon.

- We can have whatever opinion about whether it was a good idea Alexandra went on stage or not, but in all fairness, and without mentioning some music critics like the one used by Ekstra Bladet, some of them have been really unfair towards Alexandra. She is, as she points out herself, not a professional.

And as predicted we have a couple of photos of Alexandra on stage: https://www.bt.dk/royale/grevinde-alexandra-fejrede-sangdebut-med-de-naermeste-efter-showet

After the short press meeting Alexandra went home. Not to bed, but celebrating her stage-premiere with some of her close friends. Presumably Dennis Knudsen and her very enthusiastic private secretary, Helle von Wildenraath Løvgreen, who said she her tears in her eyes, during the performance.

What was the decision about her appanage? Didn't she agree to give it up? If so I can understand why she may no longer be able to commit to charity events any more.

The agreement was that Alexandra would give up her appanage when Felix turned 18 in return for pension plan corresponding to that of a civil servant. A senior civil servant I believe.
I'm a bit surprised about her giving up the charity walk since she's always been both passionate and serious about her different patronages but I guess she wants to make a clear break and show that once she's off the state payroll she's a private citizen like anybody else. Something she in my opinion should be commended for. She's done a good job raising her sons, she has an excellent relationship with her former husband and in-laws and although she went through a divorce has never done anything that reflected badly on the Royal family or those patronages that she initially kept but have slowly been divesting herself off.
Ehm... As you might have noticed I'm a fan [emoji23]

Nice to see both Nikolai and Felix attend with their mom. It's not always possible to find time to attend official events but its nice when they do.

Another article on the walk today and where Alexandra was asked about Joachim's move to Paris
https://www.bt.dk/royale/alexandra-ked-af-joachims-flytning-drengene-har-det-bedre-med-det-end-jeg

"Then Countess Alexandra cemented that it was certainly not her idea or desire to see her former hubby leave the country.
Because even though Prince Nikolai is just 20 years old and thus well on his way into the adult world, and Prince Felix is turning 18 next year, the Countess is not quite thrilled to be a real single mom.
Had they ever seen Joachim stay home?
"I do not have to decide what he wants, and of course it is a big and exciting challenge for him, but it is nice when you are two parents of children," the Countess said of Prince Joachim's new life in France."

its google translate so apologize if the quote is wrong

I am a big Alex fan, I just wondered if her saying she probably won't be there next year is to do with the fact that by then Felix will be 18, she will no longer be receiving her appanage and maybe she has different plans for her future.

That seems to be the case. I wonder whether she will give up all her patronages. On the one hand this would be the time for a 'clean' break, on the other hand it suggests she was only doing a few activities related to her patronages because she was paid for it...

Given that they have shared custody, I can imagine Alexandra not being to happy about Joachim not living up to his part by moving to France.

I am sure Joachim discussed the move with his sons but still...

Wow. She sounds jealous and bitter IMHO.

Prince Nikolai is 20 years old, who works as a model and is about to start his tertiary education. If he wants to visit his father, a plane ticket from Copenhagen to Paris is not that expensive. I can imagine that if Prince Felix wants to visit his father, Prince Joachim and Countess Alexandra can also pay for a ticket. Seriously, we have Skype, mobile phones, THE INTERNET! It's not like Prince Joachim has cut all ties with his sons! And they aren't two small children - they are young adults!

She is hardly a "real single mom" with an ex-husband who is completely out of the picture. He waited until his two eldest sons were at an age where he didn't need to hold their hand. She's making it sound like Prince Joachim didn't consult his eldest children, which I believe is highly unlikely.

I feel sorry for Princes Nikolai and Felix's future partners/spouses....
